I didn’t like poi until my wife and I attended a lauhala weaving conference and attended the banquet and the friends told us to eat the poi with the lomi lomi salmon! What a great combination! I love it all! I just made kalua pork and chicken long rice! Another great vlog!

My friend just started working at the Broken Boundary Brewery in Kalihi. I know, it's not the usual places you go, but just thought we'd suggest. They serve tacos, and have a small menu. It's great how you guys help spread the word, about local business in Hawaii and soon around the world, once Covid gets under control. I had wanted to go for so long, I probably saw a video on Helena‘s over 10 years ago & finally went in May. Another great vid, love watching you guys! Helena’s was my personal favorite food on the trip, I knew the Pipikaula was going to blow our minds & it did! But the squid luau… it was honestly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever had, it’s like that ugly bowl of green just picked me up and gave me the warmest Hawaiian hug💚! My family really enjoyed our meal at Haleiwa Joe’s haiku gardens, I was hoping to try their squid luau but they were sold out by the time we were seated, next time! Helena's is one of two of my favorite spots Hukilau Cafe in Laie is my other favorite spot. I am located in western pennsylvania but was stationed in hawaii during my time in the Marine Corps. My oldest boy was born at tripler army medical center. Lived at Aliamanu Military Reservation (The Crater). Great show I enjoy it very much.

Great video!…lomi lomi salmon usually uses salted salmon it was brought in from the whaling 🐳days salted salmon and cod than later the Portuguese brought bacalao with onions and tomatoes so it ended up with salt salmon and onions and tomatoes I think because the cod got over fished and not available…squid luau is actually octopus 🐙 but called squid luau🦑strange but that’s what people say…

I love Hawaiian food, I was born and raised on Molokai. I especially love Kalua Pig and Lau Lau. I do eat it at restaurants but my preference is homemade Hawaiian food. I have a friend who makes the biggest bambucha Lau Laus. My high school on Maui, Lahainaluna has benefit sale of Kalua Pig for the Athletic Department, so ono. I also love Pipikaula, but I've never had Pipikaula Ribs, I get mine from a guy who sells them with Portuguese Sausage. It doesn't have any bones and is so tasty. Even though itis sacrilegious for guy from Molokai I eat my Hawaiian food with rice. I enjoyed this video, my only complaint is that you should have gotten bigger portions. Another great pearl!!! Sounds so good , i have never been, but its on my list to try on my next visit home!! You should get points when your watchers drop by n say “ Amanda n Felix made us come try out this place!” We just returned from Maui and Dave’s ice cream looked like Lappert’s ice cream line… packed!! I feel bad when I see the food preparers working so hard to share Hawaii, and in return they get attitude or impatience. It’s like tourism went from 0 mph - 60 mph at half staff. OMG! Guys My mouth watered all the way through that video...my absolute favourite is Pancakes (waffles not so bad either) but that chicken Felix was chowing down looked amazing too. I have been to Oahu 8 times and have never ate here. We spent two months there last year we rented a condo and would walk to Safeway to buy groceries and would see this on our way . I will have to try it next time

I was wondering if they forgot the sliced onion and Hawaiian salt and then you showed it. Love dipping the onion in the salt with poi. Helena's is one of the best go-to restaurants after returning from the Mainland. Nice way to round out the Hawaiian theme! I always get the poha berry and kulolo ice cream in a cone. Our favorite shop is the Waimalu/Aiea location and they have shave ice too. They make a pretty good halo halo too.

@@AmandaFelixEats Before I forget again, if you're in the Pearl City area, one of the parks you might want to try is Waiau District Park. Its straight up the hill from Blaisdell Park just pass the Fire Station. If you're lucky enough, there's Thai food truck there also. Its called No Ka 'Oi Thai Food by Nattaya. Park is well maintained and there's parking up by the Rec Center where the playground and trees are. You'll like the view too. Happy Eating You 'All !

I grew up in Kalihi eating at Helena’s when they were originally on King Street near Houghtailing. The quality is still the same....’ono! Pipikaula is my fave there!
