I have an E class W211 as a Diesel. Even though it seems a bit outdated infotainment wise, it's been so reliable and the interior quality is top notch, still looks brand new on the inside.

The E65 is one of the nicest cars to drive, even in 2023. The smooth and quiet ride was ahead of its time. Sadly, lack of maintenance and expensive repairs have sent many to the wreckers, not too dissimilar to thousands of Holden VZ & VE six cylinder models.

I think for next weeks list it'll basically be filled with European and American brands lol 😂. I was personally expecting Alfa Romeo to make an appearance again on this list , the Maserati Quattroporte or a Peugeot or Citroen on the list. As an unashamed Alfa tragic, I'd say there aren't really any Alfas of the last 20-30 years that meet the "luxury car" definition to qualify for this video. Yeah, you could probably suggest the 166, but they are so cheap to buy now (usually sub $6k - if you can find one) and are so comparatively simple mechanically (the one real "pot luck" issue being the potential for the heater core to leak all over the ECU), any 166 with a full service history that looks tidy is usually a pretty safe bet.

@@TwistedDonners both are great cars (I'm onto my third 156 V6 - my daily driver is a 2002 156 GTA with the big 3.2L V6) but none of them are "luxury" cars. That said, my prior daily was a top of the line '99 V6 with red leather that had the nicest interior of any of the +20 cars I've owned over the last 30 years. Personally I think the 156 is the best looking sedan of the last 30 years, and is the best handling FWD car I've ever driven - especially in GTA form. They are also extremely durable as long as they are correctly maintained. And like many, I reckon the Busso V6 is the best sounding engine with less than 8 cylinders on the road (and in GTA form, with the right exhaust, the best sounding of any with less than 12 cylinders...) I've never owned a twin spark, but have driven a few and they are peppy things, though lack the bass of the Busso. My other car is a '81 Alfetta GTV with the classic 2.0L twin-carb Nord DOHC 4-pot. Totally different again, and about as spartan as you can get so definitely not remotely "luxury".

My parents had a 2010 750LI 10 years ago with the newly released N63 V8 back then. It had that common major breakdown happen with smoke and huge engine misfires. BMW USA released a recall for that problem the same month we sold it. 😂

If you want you can get a sort of loaded S400h imported from Japan for around 50k landed. However, internet tells me the lithium battery alone cost 30k+. In case if you don't know, service of converting s400h back to s350 is really popular and mature in China, and there is a reason for that.😅

I was “bitten” by a BMW 325i E46. It was an endless money pit quoting Scotty Kilmer. Thereafter, it’s Toyota/Lexus, Subaru or Mazda for me. Murphys Law came in at around 55,000kms for that Teutonic branded vehicle

I recently dodged a bullet with a used BMW. I was wanting to get a F90 M5, But couldn't justify the price tag. I started looking at the F10 Versions. I found a beautiful M5 Jahre edition, low km, BMW certified. What could go wrong? Turns out 4000km into ownership the engine seized up(due to blockage in oil pump) with a repair bill of $63,000AUD. Luckily it was covered by BMW. But I tell you, if I had purchased from a private seller I'd have been in a world of hurt and well up the creek without a paddle. I since Sold it and have moved onto something a little less flashy (Audi S3)

Honestly, if you can't afford the car low mileage and CPO, you probably can't afford the car. I have a N55 F01 (7er). It drives wonderfully. Fast enough, comfortable and safe with all the creature comforts. However, I maintain the shit out of her. Do most of the easy work myself and send complicated stuff to a trusted indie. Haven't had a single breakdown in 2 years. Not one

It only stands to reason that a luxury car with 10x more tech features than your average family sedan, is going to have 10x more issues as it ages. But other than that point, I applaud these 2 videos on luxury cars because just about every one featured is an overpriced depreciating asset that costs truly ridiculous amounts of cash to keep them serviced and on the road. Also, they’re mostly owned by the kind of rich pretentious w@nk3rs you see in first class on a plane as you walk down to economy while they smugly settle in with a cocktail & quietly sneer @ you.
