I am new Hilux owner and a dyno is top of my want list and this video is awesome but I just don’t know what those percentage gains will feel like and will they feel like money well spent? I mean I think she drives pretty good now and is 20% noticeable? I believe the gains are there but need to hear what it feels like afterwards from the owners, thanks Rob- always love ur professional insights into the process

Yes it is absolutely noticeable. More power & torque across the rev range, but also the vehicle is smoother to drive & your fuel economy should improve. These engines are good in factory form, but we can make them even better. We are also filming a video this week on a customer's brand new Prado that we tuned a couple of months ago. She will be on the video chatting to Rob about the differences in her car from when it was standard to current. So make sure you look out for that one!

Dam 180hp after the tune? That's really big power. Makes my 3.2 ranger look weak with its 145hp

They get even more power out of this engine nowadays in some applications, like the GR Hilux that makes 221hp. The marine version of this engine makes 250hp.

Is there a difference in when the auto transmission will lock up after tune compared with before tune. Asking as im towing a fairly heavy caravan.

I have the 2023 n80 hikux and considered a tune. But only 20kw and 50nm approx gains for the few thousand $$ it cost, doesn't see worth it.

it's all about the improvement in driveability that a custom dyno tune by us will provide. Don't focus so much on the end gains! It will have much less turbo lag & be much smoother to drive, amongst other things.

@danielsevers198 of course they do! They cannot void the warranty due to a custom dyno tune being carried out, by law. Most of the are that we custom dyno tune are under warranty 👌 And we tune dozens of cars per week.

Question for you. The power output that was measured before the tune is a fair bit down from what Toyota advertise for the new model (150kW/500Nm). I know that figures quoted by manufacturers can be artificially high, but is the reading you got in this case fairly typical of other 2022 Hiluxes that you have had come through, or do they vary greatly? This one is only producing 75% of the kW and 86% of the Nm that it is listed as having from the factory. Im due to receive my new Hilux in the next month and I just want be make sure that i dont set my expectations too high when looking for a tune, or finding fault with the vehicle when there isnt one.

Toyota estimates its figures at the ENGINE/FLYWHEEL. Dynos read at the WHEELS. There is quite a bit of "power loss" between the two. All dynos also read differently, they are not accurate & a lot of factors are involved that impact power & torque outputs. This is why we always talk about the gains in percentages.

@@UltimateDieselTuning I calculated the 150kw they come with and divided that by 20% to give an idea of what might the power to the wheels expectation be and I had a result of 120kw seems like there’s more then a 20% loss in drivetrain either that or Toyota over rated their power claims

Hi mate. We'd recommend upgrading it, but if you do not tow with your Hilux, then the factory clutch should be OK.

Some low numbers for a upgraded turbo and injectors in a new model hilux . Things only got 33s to what’s going on boys falling behind the 8 ball here.

Rule number 1 of dyno tuning - never go off figures, they all vary & many factors impact figures. Look at the gains achieved from before the tune til after. So no, we are not falling behind the 8 ball.

Like they said the dyno figures at the end aren’t important take a look at the percentage of power and torque gained throughout the whole rev range and regardless the low power figure would be on Toyota not this tuning company’s head

Not sure where you got 2k from Morrice? And yes, this is what they make as the engines are already running high turbo boost pressure from factory. The low output engines run a lot less boost, hence the lower power figures that they put out standard compared to the high output ones.
