You've sold me on the Spider's Web Fatsia! I went back and watched several of your older videos on them as well. This spring I'm going to plant one fatsia centered between six Otto Luyken Laurel along my back foundation. Thanks, Jim!

Wow first! I have two. The one in the north side of the house I think is nicer with larger leaves and holds the variegation more than the one I have on the south side of the house. But the one on the south side isn’t too bad either. Also recently planted Variegata' Camouflage™ on the east side of the house and so far the leaf variegation looks good.

Mark Weathington in one of the JC Raulston videos mentioned not to fertilize. The poorer the soil the better the variegation.
@JimPutnam4 жыл бұрын
@@LinusCello75 I grow everything a little lean. I fertilize with an organic fertilizer in the spring and then they fend for themselves. Most people are over loving plants really. Not sure about the variegation thing though. The containers are fertilized heavily and look great. Who knows

Wanted to shair this: I have had a Fatsia Spiderweb in ground now for 1 year, planted from a tiny 4 inch pot that I bought from Logees late May 2020, growinglike crazy. So, I noticed what looked like babies sprouting from the base of the mother plant. Everything I have read seems to suggest they dont pup but can be propagated only by a cutting with root hormone and by seeds....well, not 100% TRUE. I have 6 new plants that have their own roots but where still attached to the mother plant by bottom stalk. Super easy to separate and plant the babies as roots already of their own while still growing from the mother stalk!

Hello Jim, quick question for ya! I live in Southern Utah zone 8b/9a and it’s very dry (because it’s the southwest) and I was wondering how much success I could have with Fatsia in a full/ partially shaded position here in the desert? I have had success with Aucuba and Camelias and I was thinking about trying Fatsia! I would love to hear back from you, thank you for making these awesome videos!

I don't get much variegation on my spider's web fatsia, just the edges of the leaves are white. I've read elsewhere this may be due to my soil being too fertile. Mine is in a raised bed that is about 50% compost.

That container was 100 percent aged bark and fertilizer. I see be differences on them in the nurseries as well. It may need a little more sun.

Love this fatsia! I first saw one up in Gig Harbor Washington at my daughter's church. I fell in love with it! Was so disappointed to learn it's zone requirements. I live in a 6b zone. Is there anything I could do to have a fatsia and protect it through winter so it wouldnt die? Wish I had a greenhouse! Then I could pot it up and put it in the greenhouse for winter.

I tried it in SE KY, zone 6b, close to 7a. I planted Spiderweb Fatsia last June. So far now mid January, it is doing great😁. I covered it with cloth and a throw over during the recent Christmas snow storm, cold snap as it got down near 10 degrees. Also, it is planted in a microclimate. You should try it as mine has mostly been uncovered all winter and zero burn damage, so far! Good luck

I have a California King palm ( I think) on my deck about the size of that palm behind you. It came up from a seed in a potted plant I brought from Phoenix when I moved here. I really thought it died last winter but she came back and grew well this summer. Vicious shark teeth on the stems. Nothing gonna mess with this palm, lol. They get insanely fat. A "weed" over there, a gem over here. ✌🌴
