Thanks . We are just back from Alaska and did this drive. We had a drizzly day and couldn't see the mountain though😢. Was wondering where exactly these views were from..

We were so lucky with that view. The majority of the time you can't even see the mountain, let alone a whole view without any clouds!

We never made Denali on our 2010 trip now we're gonna have to make a trip just to see Denali. What a beautiful day and Kevin your drone shots are always awesome. You guys always make me so hungry, I love your food excursions. You two are so funny I just love your humor. Enjoy and stay safe. Love Sarah Palin we didn't get to see her in 2010 but did drive past her home.

That's bringing back lots of memories. We did our Alaska road trip in August 2014 for my 50th birthday treat. Stayed at the Denali Grizzly Bear Resort so not too far from where you worked by the looks of it. Fabulous 11 days we had but we did not see Denali once. Always in the cloud.
@TheAwkwardTourists3 жыл бұрын
We know how frustrating that can be. With our summer working there, we did not get clear weather very often and lots of our guests were disappointed when they couldn't see the mountain. We were really lucky on this drive up to have the weather that we did.

@@TheAwkwardTourists we still had a fab road trip. Sounds like you are taking the bus into the park on the next video. We did the same and it was superb, So much Wildlife. We did the same wildlife park as you did down at the end of Turnagain Arm but we did that towards the end of our trip when we arrived on the ferry at Whittier then down to Seward. Look forward to the next videos. Thanks for sharing. Glad you enjoyed Iceland as well. Another amazing place for a road trip.

That "How we met" story could either be a really sweet story to tell the kids/grandkids later in life with how you guys met working there, hanging out, talking, watching the Northern Lights, and quickly fell in love,.... or it could be a short and not so sweet story that goes "Well,..he showed up and had a car, so I wanted to meet him". lol! 🤣 The drone shots were incredible! The mountains and landscape looked beautiful! And, as always, I'm glad you throw in the bloopers at the end!

The romantic story vs. the reality. HAHA. It was a small crew at the Lodge so we were bound to hang out sooner of later, the car just made it sooner!

You guys are great! After college, in 1996, my first job in advertising was to fact check the Official Alaska State Vacation Guide, containing 1259 facts about Alaska. The most interesting was talking to the US Geological Survey in Fairbanks about the "official" height of (then) Mt. McKinley. "Well, sir, the official height of Mt McKinley is 20,320 feet." OK, I replied. "Uh. However, officially, we are not sure." Not sure? "Yes, sir. Measurements taken in the 1910s seem accurate, and, yet, our current measurements, using the lastest technology, differ." Differ? "Yes, sir. It's not as much. And we are not entirely sure why." Not as much? "OK. Please keep in mind, the 'official' height of Mt McKinley IS 20,320 feet. But our current measurement is 20,310 feet. And we aren't sure why. Studying the surrounding terrain, we believe that the Alaska Range is shrinking, as a part of plate tectonics." Shrinking? "Your are in advertising, alright. Reporters just take our word for it. People don't realize, plates smashing into each other can build mountains, like the Himalayas. But nothing is constant. Mt McKinley can't ONLY grow. There are times when the terrains, the landmasses, relax, and, thus, Mt McKinley can shrink somewhat. Like the continent is breathing." They believed the Alaska Range was in a shrinking phase. Measurements said about one foot every decade. "Officially", the height is now 20,310 feet, but the "official" story has to do with better measurements with modern technology, BUT Denali is "officially" growing ... taller. Much taller, like Americans do ....

I heard that some geography classes in certain other countries teach people that Aconcagua & Denali are on the same continent.

Really? I'm glad I didn't go to that school

Many countries see North and South America as the same continent, which makes sense, but these same nations don't see Africa, Europe, and Asia as the same continent. So it's not very consistent.

What is there to do in the Denali area other than the park? My Mom's had both her knees replaced so she's not a hiker. Looking for more things to do. Thanks!
@TheAwkwardTourists2 жыл бұрын
The Town outside of the Denali entrance is really cool with lots of great restaurants and shops so that is worth checking out, they also have tours you can go on like a 4wd jeep tour and other things like that. Honestly the bus tour is great, there you get to see a ton of the park and do not have to hike really at all (the only place we walked around was at the bathroom stops) You could also check out the dog sled kennels, its a short walk but its even wheelchair accessible so its not bad. A scenic flight is a splurge but amazing as well
