It’s cool to see Sam and Gary together. They have something huge in common. It’s awesome that they took the stage together. Gary knows Sammy’s songs very well and they both still have it. I met Nuno in 1998 when Gary was with King Edward and Reverend Al and we were opening a show of just Nuno and his solo gig. The drummer is the guy that is in extreme now. I forget the name of his alternate lead guitarist in that band but my Lord Almighty he was awesome just like Nuno and they cut heads on stage and blew our minds with that show. I played in a local Houston legendary band called VICTIM as the drummer from 95 to 97 then again, a few times here and there. But Nuno was super nice, super down to earth, signed everything we asked him to, shook everybody's hand and was just one of the greatest people I have ever met. It was an honor and a privilege to watch him up close and personal on that guitar and to hang out with him out back at Cardi's/ Backstage club in 1998. Thanks Nuno!

I find Nuno such a breath of fresh air never afraid to admit to things, never afraid to pay homage to those who have inspired him never afraid to admit he's grabbing riffs from his heroes too (and what musician, dancer, singer, etc. HASN'T?? That's how it all keeps evolving to the next level!)... and the man is in a class of his own too with a guitar. But... he always looks BAKED!! Wtf Nuno?!! I have the same high regard for Gary too. The man never seems to have a bad thing to say about anyone... ever!! I feel Gary's voice was right up there to hang with Van Halen, but that album VHIII was clearly poorly produced and had Ted Templeman been on that project? I believe he most likely would have measured this mix up to more of what Van Halen would have still sounded like Van Halen rather than Extreme. Don't get me wrong, King Edward still has King Edward riffs and originality, but the proverbial EDGE to this LP just did not exist. Just my opinion, but love all these guys and if you can't get alone with them, something is not right.
@swingforthefences74395 ай бұрын
I wish Gary would’ve had one more VH album. Rumor was there was demos that sounded great. All that being said, during the VH III Tour, Gary singing Roth’s era song was good. Hell, he sounded better singing those Roth era songs than Roth OR Hagar. I think he gets a bad wrap.

@@swingforthefences7439 Good Day, SFTF's7439, enjoyed the comment and couldn't agree more. I would like to have seen a second LP from that lineup too, but with someone else behind the glass running the show. "Hey, uh Gary? Lose the falsettos and Ed? Nuno's voice is way better. Keep your day job and stick to middle harmony." Falsettos work with EXTREME!! Falsettos are just not Van Halen DNA and fans won't really go for it this late in the game. Well, I think that would have been a correct assessment, otherwise I believe there would have been a 2nd go-around. I'm well aware there are plenty of tracks in the Vault Of Ed, with everyone actually, and even including the brief Mitch Malloy build up. (He also believe it or not did a Van Halen tribute tour before Sammy and MIke. It's on KZbin too but there is also some good stuff on KZbin that leaked out with that original lineup trio too--- check them both out and see what you think). But to your point again, I agree that Gary just had great pipes anyway. Closer to Sammy pipes than Roth pipes..... but he could pull them all off easily. Gary could have worked well with Van Halen if they would have chose to stay in that Van Halen lane rather than vear away from it and experiment. I remember seeing Van Halen on that III tour, and when the band went into "A Year To The Day," half the audience got up to use the restrooms.... little did they know, that midway through the song that no one wanted to listen to.... it slowly led into King Edward doing his King Edward solo thing for 10-15 minutes.... and there were a lot of empty seats for a few minutes until the audience realize what they were missing. In some ways, that was pretty funny "Walking out on us, are ya? Well here's a surprise for ya!!" Anyway, enjoyed the comment... and I agree wholeheartedly, Gary got a bad rap on this deal. Him and Ed remained friends despite it all and Gary always said Ed was always good to him... despite this being right around the time when Ed's own demons were beginning to show their ugly faces and heighten. Unfortunate. Enjoy your evening 7439!!

Actually EVH himself wasn't all that full of energy, and made one or two fluffs (which of course I think any of us would quickly forgive).
