He loved Honda engines, and the deep respect that he had for Sochiro was mutual.

Suzuka was one of the key places where Honda would come and test their cars. Senna was there almost all the time giving feedback to Honda and test cars. He knew this circuit from back of his hand. What a marvellous piece of driving. Senna is a ledgend.

Awesome lap!! And I love love love the enthusiasm of the Japanese commentators, so fun to listen to!
His throttle application as he powers out of each apex is immense on this lap. The hairpin was particularly outstanding. Love ya AS...Rip

The V12 was quite a lazy engine, keeping the revs up in corners was important

Gary Clifford The most stupid thing i ever read xD keeping the revs up in Corners ?? dafuq ? xD

It's called blipping. He did as a sort of manual traction control. As soon as he felt that he had the grip, he could slam the accelerator. Prior to 89, they also did it to keep the turbo spooled up, but since the ban in 1989, that was no longer needed.
@azynkron4 жыл бұрын
@@kallo182 In the turbo era, pre 1989, yes. They did it to keep the turbo spooled up. Now shut the fuck up and sit down.

His throttle management described by race engineers has said to be unlike all other theyve ever seen Ive heard interviews on it . Its every little bit he has Is Perfected in everyway To the limit He just does what everyone else cant do. Thats why he is the best.
@Hmkls8 жыл бұрын
+Jared Tallott Raping the throttle pedal like that doesn't make you faster. Otherwise all f1 driver today would do like that. Instead, they all use smooth throttle application like Schumacher did. So no, he is not perfect in every way., wake up from your little fantasy island.
@dj7oya7 жыл бұрын
+Hmkls throttle management doesn't mean throttle rape, dude. Senna used to tap the throttle really gently too. You can hear his throttle control specially @ Hungaroring circuit 180 degrees curves.
@bZLxcz6 жыл бұрын
Hmkls yes its perfect for that kins of car, keeping the revs high was the best you could do to get momentum, so yes he was a master on it
@charmin9dim6 жыл бұрын
Tap the throttle like he did doesn't mesn it is the right technique because it does not let the differential work, so that could be cool just to hear

All I know is that the black JPS-Lotus-Renault seemed very much *alive* when Senna piloted that car during qualifying. It flicked and twisted; constantly pivoting about its center of gravity as it was a living thing. Simply the best of his time.

Fangio, Jim Clark y Ayrton..

Great!...nice sound and very interesting feature with the speed on the screen! The braking in a F1 car is just freaking amazing! I framed it after 190R, braking before the final chicane: From aprox. 300 kmph at 1:22 to 90 kmph at 1:25. 210 kmph speed reduction in less than 3 seconds, and though I know the speed reading can not be 100% accurate, I believe You cant imagine it till You try it! Montoya has said that braking in a F1 car feels like your eyes are popping out of your head!

Absolutely stunning lap in a great car. Nothing like the sound a Honda V12 with an H pattern manual gearbox. No disrespect to the drivers of today but has Vettel even seen a race car with an H pattern gearbox? This motor was pushing 18,000 RPM back in 1991. If it were allowed to develop it'd be revving at 25,000 RPM today.I would love to watch this whole one hour qualifying session in it's entirety if anyone knows where we can watch it.

Fantastic time(thanks to the Big fat Qualy tires).Only to be beaten in 2001.. Amazing v12 Honda sound.Thanks Tonino1899. Interesting to see 314km/h in Suzuka with 730HP Michaelingolfhansen i find your theory interesting but my calc are like this: 210km/h is the speed reduced (300-90=210) that means 58.333m/s. The actual time of deceleration is 2.6s (with crono).So: 58.333/2.6=22.43m/s2 or 2.29g. But that is average deceleration. Max at that time is known to be more than 4g at high speed braking

91 pole was not beaten for ten years, but its not a matter of hp. that Honda 3,5 engine had about 750 hp, in 2001 BMW and Ferrari 3,0 about 900. there were aerodynamic restrictions between, too. i think the matter were qualifying tyres, developed for lasting only one lap. and in that lap they delivered a super performance. from 1992 on they were banned as FIA introduced a 12 lap-qualifying.
@GTAGIS10 жыл бұрын
I have noticed that for the las qualifying of the season, McLaren changed its strategy and was very conservative, with Senna doing his last qualifying lap before the last of Berger
