Aysha Abdul I don't know why you are all wearing pants, this is coming from your fellow convert ethiopian. There is a way to look nice without wearing a pant, a tight pant for instance. I shop probably at the same stores you guys shop at--you can look fashionable and modest at the same time. Dresses, skirts are feminine, and pretty, nobody dress up anymore--people think putting some tights(yoga pant lol) and some random top on, they think they are dressed up!!!!! You know street fasion, high fashion, like in new york or paris or italy, they don't follow the trend, they wear what looks good on them regardless of the latest stinking yoga pants trend!!!! And as a muslim you shouldn't be overly fashionable with overly bright oufit either, that when you cross the street everyone is staring at you. Hijab is to keep eyes off you, not to attract attention. Anyways try it, you and your cousins. Like for instance right now, there is a long beige trench style(very light fabric) they are selling in forever 21, you can wear that with a loose black top and a black skirt. The beige looks so chic against the all black outfit. I can give you so many ideas to look sophisticated and chic, that others will want to copy your style and the main thing is, that you are covered in a way that pleases Allah!!

I'm the darkest among 6 siblings. While growing up everyone around me including my mum joking called me ugliest..and I was never proud of it. I grew up to be the prettiest amongst them all and the smartest n I'm more confident than I was before.

THIS IS IMPORTANT. Being Black, Muslim and Hijabi is one of the hardest things hands-down. Definitely not a third world problem. Having said that, ignorant minds need to look past race, religion and appearance.

I’m Arab and I can tell you: Yes, our community, especially older people are racist. My mom always insists on calling black people “Abeed” and I always shut her out by saying “we are all the abeed of Allah” (Abeed in arabic also means worshiper). But I can also say it’s not the case with the younger generation. Not to say there aren’t racist people from my generation, but the majority are not... All the love for you girls!!!! 💖

As an African American Muslim I feel like people really get confused about how/why I'm Muslim. They often ask me where I'm from and when I say here (America) they still don't understand. So I usually just say West Africa because coming from ancestors of slaves that's all I really know about my lineage before coming to America. My dad recently did a DNA test so i know a little bit more know about my heritage. When I tell people West Africa they usually just stop pressing for answers while sometimes they don't and I say Senegal or Mauritania. My parents reverted to Islam as teenagers so my siblings and I were surrounded by Islam all our childhood. We went to private Islamic schools and we're from a predominantly Arab community Lebanese/Iraqi so we dealt with our share of discrimination among other Muslims and non Muslims. We also have long/curly hair so many people just assumed we're mixed and as a child before I wore a hijab I would often have to explain my ethnicity/race to people. People would just assume we were Indian or Puerto Rican and that always annoyed me because it's like they were saying my (hair) looks to "pretty" to just be Black (Moor). Now I'm 20 and it's nice to see that more people are acknowledging what many of us Black Muslims go through.

The thing about Ethiopians not being black, is something arab people go around and say. They say the same about Somali´s too, cause most of them are light skin. I can´t even begin to describe how proud I am of being black, a muslim and African, Alhamdulilah. Sumaya Smiles, talked about this issue actually. Thanks for the video, love listening to your views!

why on earth would a black person be a Muslim? Islamic doctrine is littered with hate towards blacks. Here is what Prophet Muhammad thought of black's. The apostle [Muhammad] said, “Whoever wants to see Satan let him take a look at Nabtal b. al-Harith!” He was a sturdy black man with long flowing hair, inflamed eyes, and dark ruddy cheeks.” - The Life of Muhammad, pg. 243. Question: If Muhammad thought blacks are satan. How does a black enter heaven?

this was lovely I needed this. Am a black muslim girl and soo tired from all the racism around. am still learning how to love myself and not care what outsiders think and how they treat me. in my community black muslim girls are the last to get married because they are black, the darker you are the harder. and also it's hard to make friends as everyone is more in groups. like you can tell what's going on ,the moment you enter a masjid. As there are groups according to skin colour. and most darker girls started using creams to get lighter. I feel this is a disease affecting our community so bad.And videos like this are a step in the right direction. because we learn from the quran that skin colour don't matter we are one but the actions around are totally different.

I agree with the whole racism thing. When I accepted Islam one of the biggest things that stood out to me in Islam was that everyone was equal (except in level of deen) and I had never felt that before in my life. I was so used to growing up going to church in a church that only catered to a people of one nationality and it was so weird to go to another church even if English was spoken so to have gone to a masjid/mosque where there was literally every type of person there it was such an amazing feeling. For the first time I felt we were all truly one as humans BUT when I started getting to know Muslims I started to see a sad and ugly attitude and this mainly stems from culture where people would only marry within their own people and I was like but your Muslim, it doesn't matter where they come from we should be looking at do they know Allah? Do they pray? Are they on deen? But people these days are concerned first about the nationality which I HATE because it goes against what our beloved prophet (saw) said about no Arab is Better than a black or white man and vice versa except in Deen. It's so frustrating!!! If we stick to Islam and not haram traditions and cultures the world would be a much better place. Allah has given us a manual to have a peaceful and loving life amongst other people of the world but yet we choose to live it the way that is popular amongst people and even if it doesn't bring peace people still do it💔😒it's soooo sad!!

This is such a great topic as a young black woman who is considering wearing the hijab after I convert to Islam! It makes me so happy to see other women who look like me that are confident in the skin they're in.

Hey Ladies! I loved this discussion a lot. I can agree with many things that were brought up. Firstly, let me just say Sara didn't get the memo of wearing a nude hijab colour for the day lmao. Secondly, I enjoyed the topics of Hijab. For example, when Sara mentioned that you can make your own style of hijab for the best of your comfort. I use to look at other hijabis on how they wore their hijab and question them because it wasn't the same way as mine or in general wasn't what I think hijab is. In all honesty, it is how they feel and how they want to wear it. Also, we are all humans and Allah is only allowed to judge people. These kinds of conversations are literally what I live for because it also raises awareness to people from different cultures as well as within our culture. As first generation, it is so difficult to break stereotypes and cultural norms because we're in Canada. I don't want to make this comment too long but I loved this discussion and I can't wait for the next one. BTW ALL YALL HAVE FACE BEAT AND READY FOR CAMERA! MASHALLAH ✨✨✨✨✨✨
