B&M Pro Rachet Shifter functioning & usage

Quick over view of the functionality of the B&M Pro-Rachet automatic shifter, for use with 3 and 4 speed transmissions. In this case the shifter is installed to be used with a 4L85E transmission. The turbo charged 6.0 liter L.S. will drive this transmission. This shifter can be used with both 3 and 4 speed transmissions by removing or adding the two gate movement blocker pins. Sometimes there is confusion with this shifter as it requires 2 detent positions to get from reverse to the park position. There is also a neutral lock-out function most are not aware of.

I might be wrong, but I put one of these on my old Chevy truck with a 700r4 and I believe the issue was that GM put in the large detent spacing between park and reverse on their transmissions compared to Ford and Mopar so in order for this ratchet shifter to work with any of the Gm autos (this part I’m not sure about since my only experience was with a 700r4) it ends up being a double detent up into and out of park.

It definitely will work with the 4L60E transmission and they work with both forward and reverse pattern valve bodies . Also comes with a forward numbered gear indicator sticker. Thanks for watching......

Is D 4th gear? How do you get 4th? Do you have pr can you make a video on how to install it and what does what? I'm looking to put this on my 4L60E in my s10 with a carb 350 smallblock but I'm so confused as to how it tells the transmission what to do

Yes , when the selector is in drive, the transmission will go from 1st to 4th automatically dependent on speed (rpm)and throttle position & load on the transmission. A TH 350 transmission uses a vacuum modulator and a transmission kick down cable to down shift when you floor the gas pedal. up shifts are controlled by vacuum signal to the adjustable modulator and you can control that by adjusting the allen head screw in the vacuum modulator. This will adjust your full throttle up-shifts...so example from 1st gear to second to third when racing can be 6000 rpm or 5500 or what ever you desire. the fact that when you went into correct Neutral, the other lever smacked into the stereo - is this an alignment problem or is that normal with these installations?

Actually when I filmed I hadn't installed a couple console fasteners yet. After install of said fasteners it pulled the whole console and radio forward away from shifter about 1/2". No more lever hitting the radio....thanks for watching....

Is the 2 detents only for the 4L80? Bcuz I'm having trouble locking it into park on my TH350

I believe there is a mechanism, internally that one must manually manipulate a lever to choose between 3 or 4 speed operation. depending if you have a TH-350 or the 4L80E. once this is selected you have to also use the correct shifter lever hole, on the transmission selector shaft arm . I'm telling you this from memory so I would check the instructions to make sure you are installing correctly. Yes the 4L80E requires two detent positions to get it into park. Was the installation fairly ez? Many adjustments at the shift linkage?

Yes just make sure the detents line up exactly in every gear and shift point. There should be be no binding and the swivel on the cable end, should be able to be moved freely transversely with no resistance...in all gear selection positions....

No, the shifter just changes gears in the transmission and has nothing to do with the gear ratio in the differential. Thanks for watching.....

When you decide to shift manually vs keeping the shifter in drive, it will shift gears as quick as you decide to shift up or down.....thanks for watching....

Yes, It's a very rugged yet simple shifter. It will work well in your Ford, and it has the option of working with 3 or 4 speed transmissions should you decide to install a 4 speed transmission....
