I fucking love how sinister the song gets when Sharon takes over. The malice and rage and jealousy are so beautifully expressed, brought to life.

I first heard this song in a record shop in Glasgow, the city in which I grew up. It was the first time I'd returned for over a decade, and in that time I'd lost my mother to cancer, and also got into long term recovery from alcohol abuse. Whatever the intended narrative of the song, the imagery and Shara Worden's voice, the time and place, gave it an emotional impact for me personally that has never since been equalled.

It's an amazing album, end to end. Worden's vocals here, fuck me, there is so much to unpack. Beautiful tune, beautiful album, a work of art.

Can we talk about the music that accompanies the Forest Queen whenever it's her verse? Because that is musical perfection, it perfectly gives the feeling of a powerful and fickle nature spirit, and I love it!

I have a theory that A Cautionary Tale, The Mariners Revenge, and The Wanting Comes In Waves are the parts on one story of the Mother and the Mariner
@bibby2016 жыл бұрын
Liam Peterson the wanting comes in waves is part of the story of the CD
@cheesewizard89436 жыл бұрын
Chronologically, A Cautionary Tale would probably come at the same time as the beginning of The Mariners Revenge, and The wanting comes in waves would be around the time when the mom dies in The Mariners Revenge, cause it says something about cradling mom when he has cancer, and then the Mariners Revenge would finish it up I think
@noonie68726 жыл бұрын
Actually this song ties into "The Rake's Song" not Mariner's. This story is about a human child adopted by, effectively, a goddess who grants him the form of a fawn during the day and a man during the night. Guy falls in love with a human woman, goes to meet her, the Rake kidnapped her. Faun promises his life to a river if it'll let him save her, since it's supposed to be impossible to cross. He saves her, they try to cross the river and drown together.

I've been no contact for nearly a year now. The nights I can't get your voice out of my head, I think of the proposition here and it feels so great to know that I don't have to return to you at the break of light....not mentally, not physically..nothing. I am free and yet I still feel that sting like I don't deserve the freedom, that's messed up because I know I deserve it. So day by day I work on believing in myself the way you never did and never let me do for myself. The distance has been far between us for a long while before the silence and pure disconnect took place. I'm looking forward to seeing you fade in my rear view....even if I still miss you some days when I shouldn't. Despite it all, With Love, The daughter who only ever tried her hardest to be loved by you.
