If this is the first time to tackle a head gasket job, you need to take pics during disassembly and have a system for keeping the bolts with their components. I use magnetic dishes and ziploc bags for this. Also, try to use 6-point sockets for breaking/torqueing bolts, and use PB blaster for the crank bolt and exhaust bolts. If the exhaust bolt heads are covered with rust, they will likely be smaller than their original size, so try and find the next size down using SAE sockets, because any play will likely cause the socket to round off the head and add more time and a migraine to the job. Certain Honda bolts have short heads (e.g. the timing belt tensioner) and will round much easier if a 12 pt socket is used to break them. Rent the tool to hold the crank pulley stationary if you don't have a strong impact to remove the crank pulley bolt; that crank pulley bolt has the potential to stall your project for hours if not prepared Try to find someone who owns a Milwaukee 20V 1/2" impact to make quick work of removing this stubborn bolt.

Great video series!. It was very good how you kept your budget in mind. Even if you add your labor it is still not an expensive fix. Many people would just get a rebuilt engine. It's good to see that things can be fixed instead of scraped. Thanks again for this video series!

Well I can't explain how I just watched both parts of this project but I found it fascinating. I'm a noob to cars - just bought a CR-V MK1 from 2001 on looks alone and then started worrying my moment in the sun will be destroyed due to a catastrophic engine issue or something else. Probably highly likely as it's got 150,000 miles on the clock and I know very little about cars! Anyway - your videos here - although I understood very little- gives me hope that I might, at some point, actually attempt a little bit of work on this car. Lot of learning to do - thank goodness for your videos! Good work!

I have faith in you! and 150k miles is low, its just getting started! Keep the valves adjusted and oil full and you should be fine for awhile. Perfect car to learn on for sure

Very helpful videos enjoy your time spent and my cylinder head is back in action. Bolting up all of the timing stuff now and will have my B20B4 running again like you! To anyone with endless misfires you cant seem to figure out or fix it is most likely a burnt out or bent exhuast valve. Lots of people dont two step torque the cam hokder bolts and it causes binding on the valve rocker arms. Then you have them free floating in your engine with a bent valve to go along with your dancing rocker. Lmao that is exactly how I received my CRV when I bought it for 900$. Now 1500$ later I have a machined head. Not happy about the costs in trouble shooting but always do a compression test before doing ANY work on these engines. My grandfather was right. A compression test saves so much time and headaches. Hope some of my advice here helps someone in need and helps em save mulah. Power to Ronin for making this vid much details here!

This was awesome. I'm looking at a $2K bill to have my engine repaired. It's an 03 CRV with all the same codes as yours had. I suppose it could be a burnt out valve as well. I might even try and tackle it with your video to help.

That a big job, me it may take me like a week to do it, because, just changing the intake manifold gasket took me four days just to clean the old gasket from the engine block, the gasket was like welded to the engine, it was harder than the metal, I had to go slowly and easy so I don't damage the engine surface.

Hey I've watched all your videos and think I'm experiencing the broken valve as well, my check engine light comes on and off between certain amounts of driving, my plugs look good and coils I did a valve cover gasket replacement but still experiencing misfires I'm gonna give your tutorial a try, my engine also leaks alot my area is warm and I heard 10w30 oil might seal areas better and does better for start ups what's your idea on that?

And its causing it to smoke i already did two head gaskets repairs with two engine blocks still having the same problems
@roninmotors74663 жыл бұрын
you expect me to diagnose it online with that amount of info?? killing me. what if your fixes were poorly done? are your valve seals trash in the head? changing the block won't fix the head. when you did your previous 2 head gaskets was the head sent to machine shop? decked and valve job?

Yes i took it to the machine shop

U see I didn't do.it my self I paid over 3grand of my currency just to get it fixed and its still doing the same thing smoking through the exhaust pipe I know there got.to.be a leak somewhere in the head that letting the oil go through the manifold but I have been watching your stuff so I can know how to remove the head my self and do my own checks
