B58-Swapped Toyota GR86: Jhonnattan Castro's Newest Formula Drift Machine

With the rise in popularity of the the A90 Supra and the B58, the aftermarket hasn't stopped developing parts for the car and motor. ‪@PapadakisRacing‬ has been at the forefront with these inline 6 motors since the Supra was released and he hasn't stopped. With the success of Fredric Aasbo's 1000hp A90, he knew he had a winning package and decided it was time to develop it further. Enter the GR86. Jhonnattan Castro has been piloting the Papadakis-built 2AR-swapped GT86 for the past few seasons but with the launch of the newest 86, the perfect opportunity for Castro and Papadakis presented itself. This is the world's first B58-swapped GR86.

I loved what he said about choosing a B58 over a 2JZ ! This sport allows to develop new platforms and powertrains and I’m glad there are people like Jhonnathan Castro and the team Papadakis that are willing to experiment and make this sport grow

@@Zonkobel this is true, the same way a Nissan S-Chassis is iconic in this sport, but when it comes to the highest level I would rather see newer cars being developed. A lot of people have a hard time understanding that, especially in the drifting world but a sports that doesn’t evolve or change is doomed to disappear. Which platform/engine would you like to see being used in FD in the future ? I’d love to see “manufacturers” other than Toyota and Ford to be involved, maybe BMW or Audi

The fact that a mildly used B58 costs less than 24-year-old 2JZ GTE VVTI pulled out from a drift missile on Ebisu, speaks for itself. 2JZ is dead in 5 years. Heck, even Naoki Nakamura is running a V8 in his comp car now!

Also I don't know if it's in the FD rules or not, but +10 points for a race car with a dashboard and clean interior. I wish more race cars kept their dashboards.

I agree, that’s one thing I’ve always thought to be incredibly cool but also overlooked was the full on carbon Kevlar interior in the HGK cars. Looks so clean and professional, wouldn’t mind having the same interior in a daily tbh

Already a legend... Reminded of it's prowess taking on a dual motor model 3 this morning in my stock X3 daily driver. It's a ridiculous engine, love it. Can definitely be simplified with fab capabilities to get it to stellar. The 2AR is super underrated as well, loved that they took that motor and did something with it. MR2 guys know...

Especially now that BMW is putting the B58 into more cars and SUVs that they make, the B58 is gonna be the next LS swap. There will be a good number of them around, they have proven to be fairly reliable, and they make 600whp+ easily

Love this car and honestly love the B58 after getting an A91-MT Supra as a daily driver recently. Can't wait for more development to happen on the B58 and more tuning options (beyond Femto in the EU) for the newer Supras to become available.
