The real answer is throw some diced raw potatoes in the oversalted liquid, and remove them at the end of cooking. Potatoes suck up salt out of soup, spaghetti sauce, anything liquid. If it's not liquid, you can wash the salt off, even off a cooked steak. Wash it and give it a fresh sear, preferably from a torch so as not to cook it further.

Stale bread can absorb a lot of liquid, so it's perfect for making french toast, bread pudding etc.

french toast is called pain perdu in french... literally lost bread. The recipe is calling for a day old stale bread.

french onion soup too
@dowfreak75 жыл бұрын
There's a specific recipe where I'm from, that specifically calls for really stale bread and it's awesome. It's like french toast, but instead of keeping the breads shape, you tear it up a little, add milk and some more stuff of your liking, then coat it in more breadcrumbs with some egg to keep it together and fry it. Serve with a nice vanilla sauce and you've got a great dessert. Something I used to make whenever I was out camping to sort of celebrate the end of the day after you're super spent and just wanna relax. Also lets you use the leftover oil from the fried calzones you made the last day or for lunch.

I love salt but my mother in law gave me some chicken wings she thought were too salty and despite taking the skin off, taking the meat off the bone, and then cooking that meat in something else that had no salt there was no saving it. It ruined me on salt.

If your chocolate seizes, make ganache. It has seized because there isn’t enough liquid to suspend the solids in the chocolate.
@michaelscott-wx7ww5 жыл бұрын
Gwynne Virts usually seizing is basically burning in chocolate world, its hard to incorporate and emulsify a liquid into a seized chocolate but of course you can try
@GwynneDear5 жыл бұрын
michael scott I am no chocolate expert, but in my career I’ve only ever had chocolate seize on me once and it was because of moisture on a spoon I used to stir the chocolate I was melting.
@sjenkins10575 жыл бұрын
@@michaelscott-wx7ww What you are describing is actually scorching, not seizing. And scorching is pretty much unrecoverable.
@laurynholden73795 жыл бұрын
@@sjenkins1057 I think that person was just making a comparison, not saying that seizing = burning. Seizing is comparable to burning because they're both endgames in cooking.
@michaelscott-wx7ww5 жыл бұрын
Gwynne Virts yes any moisture added to chocolate while melting can be detrimental, its why the double boiler method is preferred to just straight into the pan melting as a precaution ! :)
