Hi soapqueen , thank you for your video in youtube, all of your videos are really awesome. I am came from Malaysia. And I have some questions always doubt me >< : 1. How long does the soap last if I added goat's milk ? (Since the goat's milk wilk spoil) 2. How long does the soap last if i added homemade carrot puree / aloe juice / any homemade ingredients? 3. Do I need to preserve my homemade ingredients before adding them into my soap ? I am really get confused about it... Btw, I have made a goat's milk soap on last year August 2016, but it still look nice and doesn't smell weird. Hope can get anyone reply from my comment, thank you very much.
@iluminameluna6 жыл бұрын
I hope you've found the answers to your questions but if you haven't, I hope my LATE answer will help. Any "fresh" ingredients you add to your soap recipe, if you have added the correct amount of lye, that is, will NOT spoil because in the process of saponification (the chemical reaction that changes the oil & lye into soap) the sugars and other solids you add will also be transformed. Basically, the heat created by the lye during this process will cook everything. That's why you add the milks and purees FROZEN, so they don't scorch or burn too badly. If you notice, in the video, when she adds the lye to the frozen milk, it turns it a light brownish color. That's the sugars in the milk caramelizing. Amazing, right? =)

ld love to try this one, especially because its perfect for most of the women in my family. I just have to be patient till I can acquire all the necessary ingredients. What would happen if I made it without the sodium lactate .and how long would I need to wait to unmold it and cure time? Im in Canada, Ive really noticed some of my batches have set up superfast! was that the cold or something else? they were Castille and Bastile formulations. Yikes soaping is so unpredictable. I then made 2 milk oat honey batches that were slow slow to set! Thank you for input Ann Marie, and thank you for your cheerful nature! Is is refreshing!
@bramble-berry8 жыл бұрын
+Patty Poehls Because this soap does have a milk discount, it will set up fairly fast without sodium lactate! I would imagine it would be ready to unmold in about 3-5 days, maybe up to a week. Sodium lactate is optional, so you can skip that step if you like. =)

@bramble-berry9 жыл бұрын
Kaitlyn McCarthy Hi Kaitlyn! That's amazing, congratulations on your first soap! You can leave that in the refrigerator for 4-24 hours. Then, remove it and let it sit at room temperature for a couple of days before cutting. We recommend letting this soap cure at least 4-6 weeks. However, soaps with a lot of olive oil do tend to improve after a long cure time. They are totally usable at 6 weeks though. =) Learn more in the Castile Soap Tutorial: www.soapqueen.com/bramble-berry-news/olive-oil/ Karma Essential Oil: www.brambleberry.com/Karma-Essential-Oil-Blend-P3827.aspx

@bramble-berry8 жыл бұрын
You can make this in a Crock-Pot, but keep in mind your milk will scorch as it cooks. That will create a darker color and an ammonia smell. If you make this recipe using the hot process method I would recommend using distilled water instead of milk. Also, you can use about 1.5-2 ounces of carrot puree for a 2 pound batch. =)
@bramble-berry9 жыл бұрын
Hi mercedes maldonado! If you notice your soap is thickening quickly or ricing, it may be the fragrance oil! There are several tricks to prevent acceleration, including using recipes with a lot of soft oils and whisking your fragrance in instead of stick blending. Find more tips in the Soap Behaving Badly post: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/soap-behaving-badly/ When I'm soaping, I like to have my lye and oils around 100-130F, and ideally within 10 degrees of each other. If the lye is at room temperature are there are butters with high melting points, they can start to solidify before your soap is emulsified. Having your temperatures around 100-130F should help. =) For this recipe, the milk will be cooler so it won't scorch. Having it around 70F and the oils around 100-130F is a good temperature. Working with milk is a bit more advanced technique, but is totally doable if you follow the steps in this video. =)

@bramble-berry9 жыл бұрын
+Ciaomamabella Hi there! Hot processing this recipe may be a bit tricky. The milk in this recipe can scorch if it gets too hot, which causes discoloration and an unpleasant smell. Because of that, the milk would scorch using the hot process method. It is still totally fine to use! However, it will have a more brown color and will smell slightly different. If you do the hot process method, I would recommend using distilled water. Learn more about hot processing soap here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6m3iaqul9Wtgq8 And more about working with milk in soap here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/how-to-add-lye-to-milk-for-cold-process-soap/ Also, the shelf life of this bar is about 10 months to a year. That's because the carrot and milk in the recipe go through the saponification process. That means they are turned into soap by the chemical reaction with the lye. So, they will last longer than fresh carrot puree and milk. Let me know if that makes sense! =)
@arlo63453 жыл бұрын

@bramble-berry3 жыл бұрын
Covering with a towel will encourage gel phase, which can scorch the milk. We usually recommend putting milk soaps in the freezer for 24 hours after you finish pouring your soap in the mold.

@@bramble-berry Thank you. That makes sense given the other precautions for scorching. HI I bought this kit and loved making it!! The only question I have is that you don't mention wrapping the mold. All the cold process I have done you wrap or put saran wrap on top. your video just mentions leaving it in the mold for extra time than normal...please advise, :) thank you~!
@bramble-berry9 жыл бұрын
lovethe530 Hi there! So glad you loved making the soap! When you wrap the mold, it helps the soap go through gel phase. During gel phase, your soap can get very hot - up to 180F! If that happens the milk can scorch, causing your soap to discolor and smell unpleasant. Putting it in the freezer will prevent that scorching. We recommend that for all milk soaps. For soap made with water, it is personal preference if you want your soap to go through gel phase or not! Gel phase gives the soap a slightly shiny look, and makes the colors pop a little. It doesn’t change the soap at all, it’s just an aesthetic thing. Some soapers prefer it! The Jazzed About Gel Phase post has more great information on that: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/gel-phase/

Hi Anne Marie! I was wondering, if instead of adding carrot purée to the soap, can I add papaya and use the same measurements? Also, does the soap rot after a while since it has carrot in it? Also, can the carrot purée be added to the milk/lye solution instead of adding it to thin trace?
@bramble-berry9 жыл бұрын
Terra Nova Hi there! You can add any fruit puree you like to this recipe! Keep in mind, fruit puree has natural sugars that can cause the soap to overheat. To prevent this, make sure to freeze that buttermilk. Then, pop your soap in the freezer when it's in the mold. You can leave it in there for four hours or up to overnight. Also, soap has a pH level that doesn't allow mold to grow. However, over time, the fruit or vegetable puree may turn brown. That's because it's a natural product. You can add the carrot puree in the lye milk if you like! We added it at trace because it was nice and easy to mix in. =)

+Mary Ann Cusi Hi Mary Ann! Just to clarify, are you wanting to add 30% coconut oil and 30% olive oil? You can definitely do that! You would just need to add another oil at 40% to add up to 100%. Rice bran oil would feel great, as would canola oil. Read more about common oils here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/free-beginners-guide-to-soapmaking-common-soapmaking-oils/ And more about formulating cold process recipes here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/formulating-cold-process-recipes/ Also, I wouldn't recommend using the carrot puree in place of the milk. I’m trying to figure out the percentage amount of this soap. Can you tell me what percentage of olive and coconut oil is in this recipe?
@nyree17245 жыл бұрын
hello Penny. At 3:19 she posts the quantities of oils and I did a bit of math (warning ⚠️! I'm not great at it) and I came up with about 85% olive oil and 15% coconut oil. This is rounded. its closer to about 15.5 ish% of coconut oil. I hope this is helpful

will this harden with so much olive oil and no palm or other hard oils? will it need to cure longer?
@bramble-berry9 жыл бұрын
Wanda Arnette Because this recipe has a lot of olive oil and additional fat from buttermilk, it will be a bit softer and take a little longer to unmold. However, it also has a water discount and sodium lactate to help harden it up! Because of that, it should be ready to use in 4-6 weeks. =) Sunday Night Spotlight: Sodium Lactate: www.soapqueen.com/bramble-berry-news/sunday-night-spotlight-sodium-lactate/

Hello! I'm working on a project right now but I need some help. How would you go about making a mold out of an existing bar of soap? I have a few ~1942 bars of Lifebuoy and want to replicate them for a project with a family member but every attempt I've made so far has been unsuccessful. Of course, supply of the soap is limited so I'm running out of chances to get it right. What would you recommend? Thanks! :)

POCCNRCKNbY I would recommend using our Flexy Fast Molding Putty! Hej Anne Marie! Tak for en god video og god forklaring. Jeg har et spørgsmål, hvor meget er PH til sæbe og natrium laktat / Salt Water Solution betyder noget for sæbe PH?
@bramble-berry8 жыл бұрын
Hi there! The pH of soap is around 9-10. The sodium lactate won't affect that! Learn how to test pH level here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/troubleshooting-lye-heavy-soap/

Thanks for sharing. Can you do this via hot process method also? Still waiting to delve into soap making world....still sitting on fence but observing with awe...👀👀😳😳😢😢
@bramble-berry9 жыл бұрын
Hi DK! You're welcome! Because hot process has higher temperatures, the milk will scald even if it's frozen before adding lye. You can definitely still use it if you like, just keep in mind it will discolor and have an unpleasant smell at first. However, several hot process soapers like to add the milk powder after the soap is done cooking, the same time you add color and fragrance. That gives you the creamy qualities of the milk without scalding it. How much you add depends on your personal preference. I would recommend starting out with about 1 tsp. per pound of soap. =) Powdered goat milk: www.brambleberry.com/Powdered-Goat-Milk-P4933.aspx Coconut milk powder: www.brambleberry.com/Coconut-Milk-Powder-P5669.aspx

Hi! Is this soap good for using on face or for sensitive skin? TIA :)
@bramble-berry8 жыл бұрын
+Mahima Dissoria This soap has gentle ingredients like olive oil, making it a great option for sensitive skin. That being said, everyone's skin is a little bit different! While this recipe may work for one person, it may not for another. To make sure, I would recommend making a small test batch and giving it a try to see if it works for you. =) Read more about soaping with allergies and sensitivities here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/soaping-with-allergies-nuts-gluten-more/

Calamine Powder is it good for baby's skin ? because i am thinking of using it to make baby's powder. Kaolin is it good for baby's skin ? because i am thinking of using it to make baby powder ?
@bramble-berry8 жыл бұрын
+Kem Adiele We haven't done a lot of testing with calamine powder, so I'm not entirely sure! I would recommend contacting the manufacturer to find out more. =) As for kaolin clay, it works by absorbing moisture. Because of that it may be a bit drying on the skin. Arrowroot or tapioca powder would be a good option for baby powder. They feel silky and not too drying! With using the carrot puree were there any preservatives to aid longer shelf life
@bramble-berry8 жыл бұрын
Soap doesn't need a preservative! It has a pH level that doesn't allow mold to grow. Once the carrot puree and buttermilk are added, they go through the saponification process and turn to a pH of 9-10, which doesn't allow mold to grow. That means the soap will have a normal shelf life. =) Read more about soap shelf lives here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/shelf-life-bath-products-ingredients-rancidity-vs-mold/ And more about adding fruit and vegetable purees to soap here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/how-to-add-purees-to-cold-process-soap/

hello! do you weigh the buttermilk while frozen or at room temperature? will the soap bar spoil due to the milk?
@bramble-berry8 жыл бұрын
You can weigh it when it's liquid or frozen! Both will weigh the same. We like to weigh the milk out when it's liquid, that way we can pop the frozen cubes in the container when they're ready. Read more about working with milk here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/how-to-add-lye-to-milk-for-cold-process-soap/ Also, the milk won't spoil! It is milk when it's being added, but after the recipe turns into soap the milk does as well. That means the milk soap will have the same shelf life as a soap made with water. Let me know if that makes sense! =)

Could you substitute carrot puree with something like turmeric powder? How would that change the recipe measurements?
@bramble-berry8 жыл бұрын
You can add tumeric powder if you like! It adds a lovely orange color to the soap. I would recommend mixing 1 teaspoon of the tumeric with 1 tablespoon of a lightweight liquid oil, like sweet almond oil. Then, add the dispersed oil 1 teaspoon at a time until you get a color you like. =) This recipe has a 25% water discount because of the extra water in the carrot puree. It also helps the soap harden more quickly, as a high amount of olive oil and milk make it a bit softer. If you leave the carrot puree out, you can keep the water discount at 25%, or make it a small one like 10%. Read more about water discounting here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/water-discounting-cold-process-soap-how-why/

Hi. Can you use fractionated coconut oil for hardness and bubbles? Thank you!
@bramble-berry8 жыл бұрын
+Angela Wambo Because fractionated coconut oil is liquid at room temperature, it creates a soft feeling in the soap. For hardness and bubbles, we recommend coconut oil, which is solid at room temperature. =) Read more about coconut oil here: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/sunday-night-spotlight-coconut-oil/
