As someone has mentioned, I have a feeling "Soldier Boy" was a retired vet who turned to become a security personal for banks and cash vans. As the crew were getting highly known to rob banks and vans across Atlanta, the security firm hired more and more ex-vet who can handle themselves in stressful and under gunfire to rid of these said robbers. "Soldier Boy" himself was probably one of the plainclothes laying in ambush and await for robberies to happen and he just chanced upon Baby and the crew. That's why as they escape, he could nail them that quickly and even rocking a whole array of weapons that normal civilians could never have. Look... Having an MP5K in the civilian market isn't impossible as by the time the show was filmed, Century Arms were already rolling out the SP5 which is the civilian version of the iconic HK MP5 but it's in semi-auto mode only, However, to have a full-auto MP5 and it's variant, you'll have to have a Class 3 license which allows someone to hold fully-auto weapons as a civilian and despite that, Class 3 license are not easily obtainable as you'll have to be in the gun industry to own one or have a firm that deals with guns to own one. Not any Tom, Dick or Harry can walk into the municipal building and just register for one, not even if you're a Medal of Honor veteran. For Soldier Boy to even have a fully-auto MP5K, he'll have to be 1) A criminal himself who modifies semi-auto weapons into full-auto like the rest of Doc's crew or 2) He's working in a security firm that has access to such full-auto weapons and he has one with him, concealed for his undercover security missions and sting operations, just nice for the MP5K. And such things wasn't unheard of. Even before middle America got modernized and urbanized, it wasn't unheard of of Wells Fargo employing gunmen during the Wild West period to be coach security or even act as customers in a coach, let out news of the fake coach being rich customers, wait for the robbers to rob said coach only for the undercover gunmen to gun the robbers down or nab them and hand them to the sheriffs.

I really loved this movie before, but whoa, with a newborn of my own, my heart climbed into my throat rewatching the mom scene. I love how so many people seem to think the vet was an undercover security guard rather than the fairly obvious conclusion that he was just a veteran who via his years of anticipating trouble was able to identify 4 men rolling up to a bank the way they did as suspicious. The movie takes place in Georgia, a very gun friendly state with plenty of dudes who pack heat just waiting for somebody to give them a reason. Was the MP5K unrealistic? Maybe, but it's not illegal to own one (so long as it was made before 1986), just remarkably expensive. Regardless, the writers weren't going around thinking about the legal nuances of the National Firearms Act or what weapons would be most realistically carried, rather simply depicting the most bombastic yet believable depiction of American gun culture they could imagine to throw in as an obstacle.
