They always forget to tell you in these videos that the baby turtles MUST be left alone to make the journey from the nest to the water......the long crawl is how they get their muscles working so they can swim and survive in the water. If well meaning people pick them up and carry them to the water, they will probably drown. So do watch and protect but leave alone to do their predestined march. Only a few will survive anyway.

A month ago (Im Italian) a sea turtle nest hatched in Apulia, where I live. The first night 16 babies reached the sea, and the second and the third night all of them hatched. Good luck, tiny black cuties!

LaSigna 02 how did you know about the sea turtle nest hatching? Was it on the news? Where their people protecting the nest for the three days they were hatching? Anyway, I loved your little story, and wish I knew more! God bless you!
@lasigna02127 жыл бұрын
Carolyn Nunes Yes, it was on the news.In Italy the hatching of sea turtles is increasing every year. The nest was discovered by a kid in May: they called the authorities and they watched the nest 24 hours per day. In the night between the 7th and the 8th of August, 16 little turtles hatched and reached the sea. In the following nights, all 78 babies hatched. On the Internet there is a very cute footage of the babies running in the water.

If you ever get a chance to help a sea turtle charity, do. Sea turtles globally have been decimated, literally, about 90% of them gone, and most species endangered. And you can help by joining groups to stop plastic entering the ocean since that's very harmful for them.

Actually disliked it because i am trying to find a video i saw as a kid showing these turtles hatching naturally. It showed how somehow all the babies along the beach hatched at about the same time and how perilous the run to the ocean was and how few actually made it. How predators seemed to know and were also waiting to pick them off. I know today these turtles have enough strikes against them and need all the help they can get, i was just trying to find that classic film/video of them.

KAZUYADOG not just in China, but in Mexico, or any other coast line were these turtles lay their eggs. People enjoy eating sea turtle eggs. But the time is come for people to see us this practice, and allow them to live. There are far too many sea turtles dying due to plastic pollution in the ocean is the theme of state for food, and it's getting more difficult for these poor sea turtles to survive to live to an old age...

@carolynnunes39227 жыл бұрын
Thricesareanimals dirtyashit from a Google search cut and paste: "How many nests are laid in Florida? Along the Florida coast, sea turtles annually make between 40,000 and 84,000 nests. How many nests does each female sea turtle lay? Females nest every two to three years, laying several nests on sandy beaches. After digging a hole and depositing about 80-120 eggs, the females fill in the hole with sand and camouflage the nest before returning to the sea. How many species of sea turtles are listed as endangered or threatened? All five Florida species are listed as either endangered or threatened. The federal Endangered Species Act lists the green, leatherback, hawksbill, and Kemp's ridley turtle as endangered. The loggerhead is listed as threatened. This makes it illegal to harm, harass, or kill any sea turtles, their eggs, or hatchlings. It is also illegal to import, sell, or transport turtles or their products. How many species of sea turtles are there in Florida? Five species of sea turtles can be found in Florida: Hawksbill Turtle Kemp's ridley Loggerhead Turtle Leatherback Turtle Green Turtle"

More turtles, more food for fish and birds! Great! Also, don't they hatch at night and walk to the sea, it's more safer?
@carolynnunes39227 жыл бұрын
szaki from a google search cut and paste: "Artificial Lighting-Nesting sea turtles look for dark, quiet beaches to lay their eggs. Lights from buildings along the beach distract and confuse the females as well as the hatchlings. When the young turtles emerge from the nest at night, they are drawn toward the lights instead of the water. A single light can cause hundreds of misdirected hatchlings to be killed by automobiles on nearby roads and parking lots, dehydrate in the morning sun, and increase their chance of being killed by predators like birds, crabs, and even cats. Coastal Armoring-Sea walls, sandbags, and other barriers built to protect beachfront property from erosion block female turtles from ideal nesting grounds. The developing coastline is rapidly encroaching on suitable nesting beaches. Beach Nourishment-Another way to combat property erosion on beaches is to bring in truckloads of sand. If the sand is of a different consistency or is too compacted, the nesting behaviors of turtles can be drastically altered. If the renourishment is done during nesting season, there is also a possibility nests will be buried too far underground or be run over by trucks. Pollution-Everything from oil spills to fertilizer runoff can contaminate the ocean habitat of the sea turtles, killing their food sources and causing terminal diseases."

@carolynnunes39227 жыл бұрын
Evi Marioli these were professionals who wanted to make sure they didn't wander astray, (streetlights can disorient them), and if any of the hatchlings accidentally got flipped over on their back's, they turn them right side up again. I think they are also supervising to ensure that predators don't pluck them from the sand, before reaching the ocean, or that other ignorant people don't interfere with their very first trip to the ocean, where they will hopefully live long and happy lives, and will only return back to where they were hatched to lay eggs, so that the cycle of life begins again...
@tl2567 жыл бұрын

These turtles could be endangered. Plus, the people helping were pros, and only helped them stay on track (like picking up stragglers and putting them back on the right path) It's not like they picked them up and put them in the ocean.
@carolynnunes39227 жыл бұрын
LivingAdream these professionals are merely supervising their trip from hatching to the ocean. If one flips over accidentally onto it's back, or wanders to far astray, due to streetlights disorienting them, he professionals will gently guide them back toward the ocean. They are in search for if Ikelea dwindling numbers, that every hatchling life is precious. There are even some places where they will collect the eggs, allow them to hatch and keep them for a few weeks until they're bigger and stronger before releasing them into the ocean... I think this is done on some of the beaches where they need to rescue the eggs before poachers, to collect the eggs, to cook and sell as delicacies...
