While on patrol Naude, Denzil and Antoine saw a pup with a deep cut around his neck. Denzil and Antoine Took off running before Naude could even stop the car!
Denzil managed to catch him by hand and the activists got to work. The pup had a single rubber ring around his neck, and it was cutting deep into his skin. The material is something they have encountered a few times in the last 2 months. It's from a heat exchanger, which is used in cooling systems on big ships. We suspect a large batch of this must have been dumped or lost accidentally overboard somewhere quite recently, as this type of entanglement has not been encountered at all in the last 8 years. 🦭

I am baffled by the thought of what has to be thousands of maritime sailors who make their living on the seas, tossing their shit overboard. I remember one time last year while fishing off of San Diego, a plastic bag flew into the water, and the captain of this 120 foot boat, turned it around so the crew could gaff it. Full respect of the environment! Another great video guys!

@@WobblesandBean Yeah but teared-up-eyes are also a sign of pyhsical pain in animals, I believe. Not quite sure, but if you hit someone on the nose, their eyes will water too. Drooling is also a pain-response. This seal might've also responded to the pain and sudden surprise with tears. Actual sadness is not with tears, as far as I know.

Thanks for not only saving the seals, but for also doing it so carefully and delicately when removing the stuck material!

The pup was more stifling than the pupies in the other video. The rubber looked very tough. Maybe, if that pup had grown up, it would have been harder to breathe. But thank you for saving the pup before that happened.

Maybe your rescues could be put in an educational induction for all people working on ships & fishing vessels to highlight the significance of their carelessness. Making it a mandatory module they have to complete & fully understand. Loving your dedication to these beautiful creatures & the jackal.

I hope that most people that are binge watching these rescues can find a way to make a small contribution (or large) to these fellas. It is profound that we've created such trauma to nature by our carelessness that now there are people, like the ones at Ocean Conservation Namibia, that give so selflessly to try to make right the wrongs of so many. Bravo, for the incredible work guys!
