Baby squirrel thinks she's tough!

One of the rehab babies we took in last week; now that she has her strength and energy, she is doing her best to protect the nest and the other babies! This is good behavior for them, it means she has a healthy fear of humans and won't have a hard time being transitioned back to the wild when she's ready! Still super cute!

Many years ago, I raised two abandoned baby squirrels - a male and female. I wanted them to remain wild. It worked with the male. He wanted nothing to do with people. The female was another case entirely. She wait at the door of the cage when I came to feed or clean them and leapt to hug my forearms before ascending to my shoulder where she could watch the proceedings. Well, she couldn't be put back into the wild so a friend adopted her and she became his enclosed porch squirrel.

It's been YEARS, but still, thank you for all the hard work you did for those squirrels! Sad that the female couldn't return into the wild BUT you found a good, safe and loving home for her. Not many people would've done what you did for them. :)

They are wild animals they should not be kept as pets unless for some reason they cannot be returned to the wild after Recovering from whatever reason they need to be in your house. They are adorable

As cute as this is, you should stop trying to get her used to you in this way. She’s not a pet. Eventually she will realize that you won’t hurt her and chill, but you spending so much time with her like this won’t help you release her. I’ve raised A LOTTT of squirrels and they’re so soft and cute you want to play with them all day. But if you do, you reduce their chances of survival in the future. Her aggression will get her more food and keep away animals from her nest when she’s older. Plus squirrels get a bit more aggressive, especially with food as they get older - their claws turn into scalpels. You keep doing this and your hands will turn into sand paper. Be careful of the veins in your wrist..... smh.... ALSOOOOO, if you don’t want to deal with diarrhea and constipation feed her SCALDED WHOLE MILK FORMULA. I haven’t lost a single baby squirrel. My survival rate is drastically higher than the local shelter since they lost some every once in awhile. I promise you 1 billion percent it will not kill them.
