Only if she can learn to remain detached in her feelings and not raise the squirrel as she did this one. Way to many rehabers over expose the animal to human contact. It jeopardizes their ability to be released which is the actual purpose of being a wildlife rehaber. I've also seem rehabers who can't maintain some level of detachment end up in a hoarder like situation because they can't euthanize a wild animal that is non releasable. It's one thing when you've got the money & appropriate space for a few "educational" animals who couldn't be released. But when you're a rehaber, within a year you'll run into blind squirrels, possums who've lost their tail, animals that have seizures etc. and you'll bury yourself trying to save them all.

My brother saved a baby squirrel and named her Susie. He bought her a castle of a cage and when she was old enough he took her to a friend’s farm where she lived happily ever after. He loved that little girl so much. Sweet for a grumpy old guy.

I think squirrels can form some kind of bond with humans that care for them. I've seen it happen.
I had a neighbor that rescued a baby squirrel. After a year, she wanted to spend time outside but came in for meals. Soon she had babies and her instincts to forage didnt kick in and the neighbor stopped feeding her unless the squirrel would do tricks for her. The squirrel disappeared for a few days, probably trying to find food. She came back a few days later, very skinny. Again the neighbor wouldn't feed her unless the mama would do a trick. I imagine in desperation and frustration for her babies, the squirrel bit her. Rather than the neighbor understanding things had changed for the squirrel now being a mother, she took it personal and stopped feeding the poor mama. Of course I took over just leaving little bits of fruits and nuts out for the mama without her having to make contact with me. I still see her occasionally and she is completely wild now...thank you Mother Nature!! Moral of the story....when you make a commitment, it is lifetime for them, not you. If you can't help them selflessly, find someone that can. It took alot of self restraint but that neighbor is still alive today...lol

She is absolutely adorable... On April 23rd of this year on an early Saturday morning my son was turning our compost pile. We had just had 2 nights of horrific windy weather. He saw something coming towards him under the leaves that stopped at his foot. He brushed away the leaves and a baby Gray Squirrel ran up his leg and right into his armpit to keep warm. He brought it inside and showed me and we proceeded to google what to do. We followed all the advise of different people that have saved Squirrels and now have an awesome addition to our home and family. His name is Geoff and we have invested lots into keeping him as a comforted inside pet. He gets along with our 2 dogs and 2 cats and will live his life out as a member of the family. There are times when we discuss the possibility of releasing him but he knows no other way of life so we decided he's not going anywhere. Plus like I told my wife I couldn't even imagine him trying to cross the road and getting killed not to mention the fact how much we would miss him...Geoff also has paralyzed fingers on his left paw which is a concern of him going back in the wild... He has plenty of love and attention and has become completely domesticated. He has little stuffed animal friends that he plays with and loves them.....LOL...We always say that we didn't find Geoff - Geoff found us... :) There are videos of him here on my channel if anyone would like to see the lil fella...

She would get the squirrel Zumiez which was hilarious and jump up on my drawing table and fuss at me and run into her little bird house if anyone came in. Tremendous fun. I am feeding a small colony of squirrels. They keep clear of me, but a tiny bit less as the weeks go by. They are the "introduced" North American grey variety, often despised because they are bigger than the UK native red variety and have become the standard variety in most areas. Scottish red squirrels are holding out. Now I get to see grey squirrels a little closer up I can see they are beautiful animals. For me helping any animal survive Winter is very satisfying. More importantly, surviving Winter is even more satisfying for the animal... Please do not release adopted wild animals unless you are sure they have acquired their species' survival and social skills. Some "cute" wild animals can reject harshly newcomers, particularly newcomers whose behaviour designates them as "different". Killing any animal because it has experienced abuse or misfortune is despicable. Leaving them to die, lonely and neglected is terrible. Why some vets are so eager to euthanise puzzles me...

100% agree. Vets like all other doctors are supppsed to do no harm. Well it's harmful for animals to be put to death unnecessarily. The only time an animal should be euthanized is if it is extremely ill with no chance of recovery or if it has a deadly contagious disease. We have to take care of animals and each other. Animals make the world a much better place for all of us & can teach us much about ourselves, as well as how to overcome obstacles & unconditional love.

What has a loving woman who cares for animals gotta do with marriage material? Such an archaic mindset. Do u make such comments every time you see a woman perform well in any thing? ‘Wow, she cooks well. What a marriage material!!’ ‘WOW, she plays the violin well, what a marriage material!! She can entertain her husband well, I’m sure!!’ Why don’t we focus on the fact that she’s so meticulous in her caring for the squirrel? And that the world needs more ppl like her. Just because someone wants to care for an animal doesn’t mean she wanna care for another giant baby aka a husband. Also I agree with Violet Blume’s comment. Many animal lovers don’t wanna procreate. Funny you point out about Idiocracy cos if you really understand what the show is about, you will know that ppl who are discerning & aren’t blissfully ignorant usually choose not to procreate because we know all the downsides of procreation including further environment destruction, animal suffering & the unnecessary imposition of life & suffering to another human being. Deforestation is caused by humans to create space for houses for MORE HUMANS or to build ranches to rear more animals in order to kill them. Trees are felled to create timber for MORE HUMANS. Animal habitats are destroyed & animals are vulnerable to illegal trafficking because they have less cover. Our plastic waste is choking many marine animals. Just a simple reading up will educate yourself- albatrosses are feeding on plastic as we speak. Also monkeys, mice & many others animals are suffering in labs as they’re being tested on by humans to create vaccines, cancer cures, makeup etc. Let’s not forget that humans have created battery farms & cause so much suffering to animals. Imagine you are the calf waiting to be slaughtered. Fewer humans = less animal suffering. Non-breeders aka non-procreating ppl care for animals so we choose not to procreate. I know marriage(in your original comment) and procreation are mutually exclusive but you pointed out Idiocracy and have such an unjustified anger towards Violet’s reasonable comment so I had to point out the fallacies in your argument.

Oh I get it, you're just trying to show us how intelligent you are, how much better you are than all us ignoramuses. Pretty sure you don't understand Idiocracy as well as you think you do, since it's actually contradicting your argument. If that's a quote from the film, sorry I've not watched it 10 times + memorized it like you. I was an English & Creative Writing major, do tell what's wrong with my reading and comprehension skills, I'm oh so curious!

@@whoareyoutoaccuseme He said that because you failed to unserstand his comment. He said best of luck wherever it may lead. It was a nice comment. Just because you don't agree with a portion doesn't make it wrong.

There was a man who had a pet squirrel. One day, he found it in his coffee cup as he went to pour himself a cup. He said to himself, "Hey! There's a squirrel in my coffee!" Then he had the thought, "There's probably no one else on the planet who just said that!" I pray you'll be with Fern "until its time", and I pray that's a very long time from now. And believe someone who knows (for me, it was a pigeon I rescued) -- when it "is time", you'll _never_ get over it, you'll _never forget_ , and life will _never_ be the same without your friend. But, if you're alive on this planet, and you love someone -- *anyone* -- _one_ of you *is* going to suffer heartbreak and sorrow (unless you leave together). That's just the way it is. We have to be brave.

We rescued a squirrel that came down in a huge storm. He was really, really tiny and new. We got help from an overwhelmed rehabber and she held our hand while we got him thru his first few weeks. We all kept him in our overalls or sweater pockets till his eyes finally popped open and he became mobile and started climbing us and everything else. It wasn’t too long after that a skilled rehab had room for him to go where there were other squirrels and he could learn and eventually be released. It was a great experience.

I’ve raised and released a boy and a girl squirrel. The female was definitely friendlier, but he was also a great squirrel, and still comes around. The female I had to give to a Rehabber because I had to go away. I regret doing it I should’ve just let her go in the backyard. She would’ve been fine, I realize that. I promised myself I’d never do that again because she was very mean to me and wouldn’t let me go see my squirrel even once, saying, what do you think she’s going to do run to you?….so mean. I had a blast with Buddy though and built a $500 hutch outback that he was in for three weeks for the transition to being an outdoor squirrel….could not wait to get out but I love looking at it in the backyard and I hope to have another rescue someday. I hope everything went well with this one you have. You are right…is it is extremely rewarding to do that. Love you for your kindness:)🥰
