Odd you should mention Yui getting injured. When they did this song at Budokan Yui fell off stage during the crowd participacion part. They finished the song with just Su and Moa. This is one of my favorite Babymetal songs. One thing I love the most about it is the lyrics. It's about a girl going to her first metal concert on her 15th birthday. She sings about rushing up to the front of the stage and headbanging and moshiing all night.Su says the cribabys (I'm assuming the negative people in her life) all disappear while she is there. When Yui and Moa are pulling on their ponytails Su is saying her long black hair is all disarrayed from headbanging. She compares that night to a beautiful flower that bloomed that night and dies the next morning just leaving a memory. Just some really great lyrics about going to see a metal show.

I thought that maybe the cry babies line might be referring to the girls parents, as their little girl has grown up and gone to her first rock show and they are crying with emotion. Just my idea.

Finally! I had begun to think you would never get round to Headbanger and it is one of their very best songs and one of the very best choreographed songs. Both Yui and Moa took over the lead vocals in shows in France and Germany respectively (the warm up shows immediately before their historical first appearance at Sonisphere in 2014) to celebrate their 15th birthdays and I'd really like for you to react to both of those too please (I will try to find the links). On the 'new' Babymetal, there is still full choreography for all the songs, that hasn't changed ... the styling may have changed of course, but that could be temporary. They have been in a sort of limbo and had to make adjustments to deal first with Yui's absence and now with her leaving, but I believe it will continue to evolve and now they know Yui will not be back they will have a clearer idea of how to move forward.

You were right that its not surprising that Yui got hurt. There were reports she wore a back brace at the last few shows she appeared in, and if you watch them she does seem to be moving very slow. The Pikachu guy and White T-shirt guy from their very first performance are legendary. I believe next year they may replace Yui and get back to what made them special. Hard to believe you haven't seem ijime, dame, zettai, must do Sonisphere version. Akatsuki deserves a double reaction since there's a great "unfinished" version too. "iine" is probably the weirdest, their 2nd song. The One is a great vid, the song that always follows tales of destinies. The rest have lots of variety incl weird transitions and moodier pieces. But my recommendation would be Amore at Wembly, great sound and live vid, besides akatsuki & IDZ it probably kicks the most butt of these. Enjoy! www.dailymotion.com/video/x5eh8bm PS, choreographer Mikiko is one of Japan's most celebrated, works closely with BM, SakuraGakuin, Perfume, Amuse in general, she did the Olympic outro ceremony to represent that Japan is the next host. The Ghostbusters fog hoses were probably brainchild of live production design team tho, and keys in with theme of exciting first concert, and gives the girls some Power too imho

The choreo pulling the pig tails out; that was Yui and Moa's idea. They did it in rehearsal and Mikiko-metal added it in. Which has turned into how they do choreo. Mikiko-metal doesn't come with set moves like she does with other groups. She comes to the studio, watches the girls rehearse, and takes their natural movements and makes a routine. I get that they have been a bit dark, but with the Yui injury and Ko-Gami's death, been a hard year. Elevator Girl is more upbeat

Oh, damn, BTW, forgot to say: This was yet another great reaction video. You make really good points about the earlier BM and more recent stuff. I really think that there are two major factors that have prevented BM from getting back to kawaii: 1) I think they (Koba) wanted to prove BM's metal chops with the 2nd album, so it included a lot more heavy/darker themes; and they've only released a couple MVs from it anyway, and 2) first Mikio's tragic passing, and then the prolonged health situation with Yui, and the long process of trying to restructure/replace her to get back into a full kawaii trio. My hope/prediction is that the whole BM project has way too much momentum for Koba or Amuse to let even these major setbacks permanently cripple it. Given enough time to recuperate, they will come back fresh and stronger than ever. It's just a question of time, IMHO. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I wonder what this upcoming Fox Day (April 1st, by band tradition) will bring. Maybe nothing, but who knows?

Man, it's so good to see you back smiling to BABYMETAL! It comes a little unexpected, but very welcome! I think there are one or two songs left that you haven't done, I'd love if you'd do them. One thing that I'd love you to watch (and I think you haven't, yet) is their current intro song "In the Name of" from their Legend S tour in Decembre 2017. It's not kawaii at all, but it's the most epic Metal "show" I have ever seen: www.dailymotion.com/video/x6h5yo6. I agree completely with you regarding the loss of kawaii in their current form (music, choreography and outfits). Many fans say it's inevitable due to them growing up, but I think there's a middle ground that could have been explored. But then again, we don't know if there's going to be more change in the future. Edit: Sorry, messed up the link at first.

Hey Dave! Hope you're doing well! 👋😊 You REALLY have to check out these two recent MVs in the kawaii metal universe: DESURABBITS 『卒業少女‐未来絵‐』, and LADYBABY " Riot Anthem ". They are both really really good, top quality, possibly even epic. After these recent disappointing and sad events with Babymetal, it looks like kawaii metal is still a source of creative genius, and both DesuRabbits and (perhaps a little surprisingly, since they've also had some major/difficult changes) Ladybaby are still tapping into that source, picking up the slack while Babymetal hopefully recuperates. I hope these two amazing videos bring some cheer, joy, and hope back to you and your viewers. Cheers, man! 😊 P.S.: The Ladybaby one is like nothing they've ever done before. You'll be pleasantly surprised, I think!

Listen to "Da da dance", "pa pa ya", "oh majinai" or "Elevator girl" and see how happy they look and how awesome they still are. I also love this earlier cuter stage of their careers, but tbh alot of the moves from then may not translate to a grown woman, who is a lot taller. Also alot of the cutesy things girls can do seem a bit inappropriate to Me, when adults try them 😎🤘🏻🦊

Dave, your observations are right on point about the "classic" Babymetal vs the new vision of the band. It's too much of a change, IMO. Bands evolve, yes, and they are getting older, but they are, as you put it, taking themselves way too seriously now. Maybe they're going after a different audience, but many people who loved the band in their original concept, like myself, are disappointed. "Kawaii metal" put them on the map, and why they would toss that away is baffling.

Hi Rick, I know you're a big fan of BM, having seen a lot of your comments on other vids. It's not that I don't cut the members some slack, as you put it, but I'm just generally feeling down about the direction that Koba seems to have put them on. Yui leaving was a tremendous downer, but nothing can be done about that. I've followed the girls since the earlier days of SG, and was just a big admirer of their brand of kawaii metal.Absolutely no bad feelings toward Su, Moa or the Kamis, it's just that I'm not feeling the fun aspect recently. We'll see what the future brings.
@rickwagner-6 жыл бұрын
+John S The future is going to be different, for sure. But from seeing them live in Austin last May, and what I've heard from folks who were at the October shows in Japan, they are still amazing. They even brought back "We are BABYMETAL!", and "See you!" at the last couple of shows. Personally, I don't mind them exploring a darker side. 'Rondo of Nightmare' is very dark, and that's from the first album with a live debut at Budokan.
