Great reaction. This was their big breakthrough performance in the west - their first major event outside of Asia (they played a couple of small venues in France and Germany where Yui and Moa celebrated their 15th birthdays in the lead up to this - Su was 16). They were originally booked to play a small side stage or tent but the video for 'Gimme Chocolate' went viral and tickets for a show in London a couple of days later sold out so quickly that it was moved to a bigger venue, that sold out just as quickly. The Sonisphere organisers decided to move them to open the main stage on the Saturday morning with just a couple of months notice. Some people, having only heard 'Gimme Chocolate' and made wrong assumptions about BABYMETAL's origins etc made threats on social media to throw bottles at "this gimmick manufactured band who were making a mockery of metal who should not be at Sonisphere at all, never mind on the main stage". From back stage the girls couldn't see the crowd and having been worried about being booed and bottled, they were more worried about what to do if nobody was there to see them at all. They walked out to a sea of up to 60,000 very puzzled looking UK metalheads - most of them had no clue who or what BABYMETAL were and what these three little Japanese girls in red tutus were doing on stage. Apparently it was at this point Su-metal thought "this will be fun". They played about 30 minutes - just 5 songs, this was the last one (you cut the video off a bit too early to hear the crowd calling for "one more song" as the girls did their "See you" before walking off stage). Su has described how the crowd got into their act and started singing and dancing along from one song to the next as looking like a wave moving out from the stage starting from the front rows and how it was the moment she realised their music could cross borders and language barriers. Their merch outsold all the other bands playing that weekend (that included big names like Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Metallica and others) and apparently they had the biggest mosh pits of the whole weekend too.

you mentioned confidence. while you understand this was their first big festival outside of Japan and standing in front of 60,000 people that didnt know them, their second song, Gimmie Chocolate, there was the sing along part of that song that Su had so much confidence she had a UK crowd singing with them in Japanese. this show put Babymetal on the map. you have to see the version they did of this song beginning of this year in Japan. two bands, west kami and east kami, 2 drummers, 2 bassists, 4 guitartists, Su and Moa and all three avengers on the same stage. that was a version that is the best for this song.

My favorite BABYMETAL song until the next time I hear Megitsune. You mention Su’s confidence... these three are heroic to me. What a performance, and that final chord by Mikio after the world’s greatest key change. Wow!

Great reaction! Grington already hooked you up with all the information about the significance of this performance. Babymetal livestream would be amazing, you could do Metrock2015. It's a 40min fan-favourite performance in japan with an insane crowd, KamiBand on top of their game and perfect performance by the girls.

This legendary 30+ minute set in BABYMETAL history is called by some the "Miracle at Sonisphere". Imagine being 15-16 years old, touring outside of Japan for the first time, originally set for a small performance tent (expecting maybe a couple thousand to show) to being upgraded a couple months before the festival to the main stage in front of 65,000+ people BUT 95+% of them never heard of you, some came to hate on you (based on their videos up to this point like "Gimme Chocolate" which had gone viral a few months before and thought they were a joke or gimmick), and these Sonisphere people are known to throw bottles at the acts if they don't like them! But by the end of their 30-ish minute set, the crowd is chanting "We want more! We want more!", which you can hear at the end of this video. They had the largest pits and wall of death's, as well as sold the most merch out of all the acts performing at that event (Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc). This show was the start of them really blowing up outside of Japan and is considered a major moment in BABYMETAL history. This is why this show is my favorite of all their shows! Great video and reaction! Keep up the great work!

Quote from our QUEEN… “I am so honored that we are confirmed to play Sonisphere Festival UK,” declares SU-METAL. “There are so many different types of artists playing this festival but I hope to deliver a one and only, unique style metal - BABYMETAL - even to those who will see us for the very first time. This will be our very first time in the UK, which makes us nervous, yet excited just imagining what type of people will come and see us, what sort of show it will end up being, and whether the audience will enjoy our show. We’ll hopefully get to see Metallica-san’s performance again after witnessing them at Summer Sonic festival in Japan which we are very excited about.” #BABYMETAL earned ¥1.097 billion for 107,500 tickets sold on tour making them the #1 female artist in Japan and second in the biggest touring market in industry of year 2019. They are also the most successful female group in history with no sexy concept.

Nice again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 But you should have watched this video until the end. You missed the cutest part of this performance. "Dame Zettai (= No absolutely)" part of this title is originated from police campaign against illegal drugs which had started in 1960s. So this song implies that "Ijime (= bullying)" is considered as harmful and addictive thing as illegal drugs. Although we have unfortunately not been able to eliminate "Ijime" from our society yet , we have to continue our efforts at home and in school. In this video we see many mosh pits that are good signs to welcome bands. But I love more to see that the excited crowd gradually turned into enthusiastic audience. And when three girls started to speak some words in the interlude, loud cheers quickly subsided and the audience even tried to listen to what they were saying despite that the people could not understand our language. I am emotionally moved whenever I see that scene. After the performance, people in the crowd became happy, so did Kami band, and I am sure that the three girls fell asleep very happily that night. See you!

Thanks for the name-check (especially as I sneaked my comment into your vote for different bands!) but, even more, thanks for reacting to this particular song. 1.6K and counting - well done, man, your hard work paid off. More to come, I'm sure. I'm just about to watch your reaction but I'm writing this and hitting 'like' already because I know (even more than the Fox God knows!) that you're going to love it. Glad to see you're still loving Babymetal! ご反応ありがとうございました ! ("Thank you for your response!", which is the best I could translate "Thanks for reacting!" as!) As the girls always say "See ya!" PS After watching: 1. You know now why we call this song IDZ! 2. 4:35 - Nice to see someone appreciates that crash stop from the band without a buzzing string in sight - tightAF. 3. You're probably going to get some comments about watching to the end cos it is a cute/kawaii ending you cut off! Thanks again for doing this.

I'm an almost 50 years old man, but this performance makes me emotional EVERY TIME! Seeing this pic i.imgur.com/macMzut.jpg of the girls looking scared backstage before their set started, to Moa giving her "Your soul belongs to me now." smirk at the beginning of "Gimme Chocolate" (which I believe was the 2nd song in this set), to this performance where there were at least TWO big pits going, and ending this song with the crowd chanting "We want more! We want more!"....just fills me up with too much joy and pride like they are my own kids. Put your kitsune up! 🦊🤘

Gimme Chocolate went viral around Feb and Mar of 2014, with support of BabyMetal fans the organizer booked them for a smaller stage at Sonisphere 2014 (UK). Then online flame war ensued arguing if they are worthy to be there. The flame war grew so intense plus their sold out for The Forum, London concert tickets (7 July 2014), that the organizer bump BabyMetal to main stage by May. This is a stage where people throw bottle of piss towards bands they don't like. So when BabyMetal went on stage, they are definitely worried. After this performance, UK became their biggest market in Europe.

I agree with you on the drumming of Hideki Aoyama, his conservative playing style is admirable as he doesn't need to twirl sticks or flail his arms around to impress, his playing alone is just "that good". You should have watched to the end for the "See You!", and 1000's of the newly initiated chanting, "We Want More!".

Usually they start this song with a small video about how we should stand together instead of fighting/bullying each other and that the Fox God taught them the Wall of Death. Even though the crowd didn't know what to do, they did it instinctively anyways. They worked hard that day for the confidence on her face you mentioned. Weeks before this performance there were all kinds of idiots on the internet who threatened them and the Festival organizer they would throw bottles and other stuff at them (which wouldn't be the first time at Sonisphere...) because they were bumped up to the main stage after the organizer saw their success with the Gimme Chocolate video going viral. Think about it, so called "fans" threatening 16 and 14 year old girls to throw bottles at them... These "fans" probably thought BABYMETAL was some kind of joke/parody band and nothing more than a gimmick. Well, they sold more merch that day than for example Iron Maiden, which was one of the headliners. But, if I remember correctly, at least Su talked about that performance and she was determined to show them they are here to stay, but she was nonetheless worried about Moa & Yui who had to dance in front of her on these boxes. You should watch the Jan 2020 Legend Metal Galaxy performance, the first time IDZ was performed since Dec 2017 after being on almost every set list from 2012 - 2017, streamable.com/247d3e . Super special performance because it's with the US and the Japanese Kami Band and all 3 Avengers on stage together for the first time to close out night one of the two concert set. So yeah, it's 4 guitarists, 2 bassists, 2 drummers, Su singing, Moa doing backup vocals and lead dancer and the three support dancers on stage at the same time playing the song. A little easter egg: It's the first time we hear the three Avengers while performing with BABYMETAL in the spoken interlude (even though it's only backing track). If you'd do a BABYMETAL concert, I'd suggest Legend S from Dec 2017, which was Su's 20th birthday concert and the first show without Yui. Or you should do the Legend M concert from Jul 2019, which was Moa's 20th birthday concert and has a few pretty cool specials in it. If you want to do something with Yui, I suggest the Big Fox Festival from Oct 2017, which was her last BABYMETAL performance. But you probably shouldn't do any of those on a KZbin Livestream. It'll probably get shut down.
