"Karate", definitely, is one of their more radio-friendly songs. The song, basically, is about fighting and overcoming obstacles. Especially the ones that are whithin yourself. And to never give up!

yeah I always assumed the imagery was referring to their negative thoughts. That the two warriors are literally the summoned manifestations of their personal demons, rising up to fight them, and mess with them. And that they have to fight them to overcome the specters of their negative self images. And that sometimes they get beaten by their negative thoughts, but that they rely on each other to pick themselves back up, and through the power of friendship and metal, are able to bounce back and overcome those demons....for now.

Welcome back and great reaction again. The 'Gimme Chocolate' video you saw was the official video, so although filmed at a live show the audio was from the studio ... you are yet to hear them live and that is where they are always at their best ... the vocals tend to be over-produced and compressed in the studio recordings, they - especially Su-metal - are so much better when they are not messed about with. 'Karate' was the lead single for their second album from 2016. You were on the right tracks with what it was about (they are very good at getting the general meaning or feeling or emotion across that they want you to feel in their songs even if you speak absolutely no Japanese - and sometimes they just want you to jump around like an idiot and have fun). It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this as it is a Japanese martial art and reflects their culture - as with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards. In the video the figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that). They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible. Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time ... and she didn't kill it as Moa is so sweet that she absolutely would not hurt a fly. This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards". I think you have a lot of good suggestions for more reactions already - pick any (all) of them, ideally live performances.

Nice second try & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 67-year-long life. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Please explore BM more. Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

As far as Recommendations Nightmare of Rondo with Mischief of the metal Gods Intro from Budokan Black Night is where I'd go next. It is a Su Metal solo. And it lets you have a chance to hear the world class musicians that play the music.

This song was released in 2016, so I would say it was the BM in the first period.., and the girl on the left at the beginning of the song was a former member, Yui, my favorite... As you said, Gimme Choco! is a cute and fun song, while Karate is a serious and cool song, I believe. But GC is from 2014, so the girls were a bit more mature in Karate, haha. The theme of the song is literaly about joining forces with friends to face difficulties, and a typical Japanese idol song's theme aimed at young people, but at the end of the song, it expresses that the difficulty (enemy) is actually within us(the girls). 'The enemy is always within you', I think it is a favorite theme of Japanese. The talent of the lead vocalist and the dancers on the both sides, the music, and the ways picking the themes, definitely they are apart from the existing Japanese idols... Thank you from Japan.

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm a new fan of this year, and have been surprised by how much I like them. Tons of great songs to go through. One of my favorites is Arkadia, which is the last in a triology of songs. It wil be worth going througj the triology and it's significance. But I'd suggest going through some of the other suggestions here to get to know and appriciate Babymetal more before hitting the triology, if they still interest you at that point.

Great reaction, thanks and welcome back! This is one of their best videos (award winner, btw). And yes, they are fighting their inner demons, as we can see near the end of the video when the masks break, a version of them appear and you can see themselves reflected in their eyes. It's really well made. "Karate" is on their poppier side actually. But that riff is killer. You can do "Megitsune" music video and than change to live performances. Because it's their thing. 😁

They have done so many genre so far. Thats why you feel different between Gimme Chocolate & Karate. Anyway even they have good video production, its even better to see their live performance. You will amazed by their energy and guts to control the crowd. If you want more, here my recommendation song from Babymetal. Listed by genre. Speed Metal: - Akatsuki - Headbanger - Arkadia - Ijime Dame Zettai - Road Of Resistance Metal Ballads - No Pain No Rainbow Progressive Metal - Tales Of The Destinies - Rondo Of Nightmare - Monochrome - Mirror Mirror Hardcore - Catch Me If You Can Skacore - Yava Trash Metal - Give Me Chocolate Metalcore - Megitsune - Karate Black/Death Metal - Sis Anger Nu Metal - BxMxC Symphonic Metal - Divine Attack - Metal Kingdom Industrial/Electronic Metal - PaPaYa - Metalizm - Headbanger Night Of 15 Mix Waiting for your next choice man

Nice, thoughtful reaction. Others have summarised the point of the song so I'll just recommend 'Road of Resistance - Live in Japan' as an excellent video to show the more epic side of the band, its musicians, its performances and interaction with a live crowd. Live is the context in which this band really shines.

This is more representative of the Babymetal catalogue than Gimme Choco. There are some really poppy, kawaii songs on the first album and lots of people love those but their last 3 albums are more mature and have a lot more different styles and genres.

Gimme chocolate is not a song for beginners. Karate is better, and their big hard songs like 'headbanger', 'rondo of nightmare', 'road to resistance' or 'migatsune' are REALLY songs any metal fan SHOULD knows, and with Babymetal, you must know that you should ALWAYS begin with the LIVE version. Their shows are insane. Hope you'll like your tour in the foxhole 😁🤘🤘

Of all of the tracks that have official music videos, I point to this one as it tells a complete story and then the 're-enactment' when they perform live is so on-point but the official video has elements that they do not have live so I feel this video gives you the full story. I'd first come across Baby Metal with Gimme Chocolate as that was what they were playing when they played a night show in the US. If I have a least favorite song of theirs I would have to say that is it...for several reasons Karate is near the top but again, that is story/video based and not just musically. Megitsune and Shanti Shanti are up there with me as well. Do not see many people react to Shanti Shanti and in the grand scheme may be lesser known but it has a great groove to it. But realistically I can't go wrong with any of their tracks. And it's not just a the mixture of metal and pop that does it...but they employ so many styles of metal. From the 'origin' story of the band, vocals, live choreography, mashup factor and definitely how they engage and at times CONTROL a live audience... I really love them.

You've only scratched the surface so far. All their songs sound different from each other and they always sound better live. The two you've heard so far were the studio versions. Su-metal is a brilliant singer, which is perhaps the most evident in their two appearances on The First Take where they sung Monochrome and The One. I will suggest a mix of old and new songs: 1. Headbanger at Legend 1997 (first album) 2. Syncopation LIVE Compilation (HQ) (second album) 3. BxMxC live compilation or Budokan 2021 (third album) 4. Mirror Mirror official music video (fourth album) I could list almost all their songs, this is just a quick selection.

It's about overcoming your inner demons. You did get that that was them behind the masks? They're inner demons!! This and "Megitsune" are, to me, their best studio MV's. Next - a standard for new reactors "Headbanger" Legend of 1997 Concert 2013. Spoiler Alert - Su is 16 and Yui and Moa are 14!! A newer song - "Monochrome" Lyric (full Roar Ver.) and "Monochrome" piano ver. from The First Take, same song - done very differently.

whats funny about this song, and im 54 and have been a musician and music fan forever and very open minded... is that I don't need to know what its about- I feel it. and its universal. I wish the world was like this song feels.

They were actually fighting themselves and at the end also freeing themselves from being entrapped in what I interpret as a shell or imaginary prison. The song is about staying strong when faced by hardship and never giving up. The video seems to indicate that the hardest challenges are often those within us.

I feel like GC and a lot of the first album is a lot more experimental, like the whole group were trying to figure out what they were going for. My favorites from that are "Akatsuki", "Megitsune", "Road of Resistance", and probably "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" they're more like this one.

My recommendations are Monochrome (Official Lyric Video), and Light and Darkness (Live) which is uploaded by "who?", both off the new album, and Syncopation Live Compilation also uploaded by "who?". L&D is one of only a couple lives of the recent album we have on KZbin so far to react to, and it does have a watermark at the beginning that fades when the song starts.

BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old when the group began. All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine. They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more. Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.) Suggest reacting to these for a start. Syncopation LIVE kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZXFao2vZb6XhcU Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4mpameIfL54o9k Megitsune LIVE at Budokan 2021 BxMxC LIVE kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJuxeXSQdqaEq8k Kagerou LIVE with Kami Band intro kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpiWgqaGfpirZ68 Road of Resistance LIVE in Japan Headbanger LIVE Legend of 1997 Concert (1997 is when lead vocalist. Suzuka Nakamoto was born) Shine LIVE Tales of the Destinies LIVE Yava LIVE with Kami Band intro at 2017 Fox Festival Awadama Fever LIVE kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpTdcmuHa5ukoas Catch Me If You Can LIVE with Kami Band intro At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member. Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles. Good luck and hope to see you again.
