This was filmed at an awards show, though not a metal specific one. Footage is from the Alternative Press Music Awards (APMA) on July 18th, 2016. BABYMETAL performed 'Karate' before they were joined on stage by Rob Halford.

Moa was definitely playing the right notes, but pretty sure she was too low in the mix to be heard. This was a promotion to sell branded guitars...but Moa had been learning to play.

Lovebites cover of Painkiller was so amazing that I had to dig into Judas Priest. Another reactor, whose favorite band since forever was Judas Priest, did a phrase by phrase comparison of each instrument and the vocals. He pointed out that Lovebites, as a tribute to JP, did not do their own arrangement, but covered it note for note. Great reaction. They were originally only going to play 'Breaking The Law', but Rob said in the interview afterwards that he'd been enjoying rehearsing with them so much that he said "Let's do 'Painkiller' too" and they just made it happen. Moa could play guitar a bit, Yui was learning. They did say they were very nervous about playing live on stage, but the main riff for 'Breaking The Law' probably isn't the hardest and in Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Takayoshi Ohmura they had two of the very best teachers to help them prepare. Whether they were playing - is still debated, some say yes, most say no ... if they were they were probably low in the mix and it is more likely Moa was playing than Yui. Yes the camerawork was appalling - when Takayoshi (and Moa perhaps?) was playing the main solo the camera went to Mikio and Yui playing a couple of power cords and the cameras completely missed Moa and Takayoshi on their knees and leaning back in classic metal guitarist pose (instigated entirely by Moa of course). But yes, this was about the occasion more than the quality of the performance and the mutual respect between the old and new generations of metal.

What I like about this is not the performance as such, it's by no means outstanding or flawless. For me this is a symbol of an open mind and respect. The "future of Metal" (as Rob called them) and the origin of Metal sharing a stage in mutual respect, just having a good time. Different eras, different ends of the world, different cultures, different philosophies - who cares. Basically giving the finger to haters.

LOL We don't LIVE in the car. It's just where we get the video done. But I wouldn't mind a new car, so hopefully we get some big breaks on the channel and can afford it lol

no babymetal was not playing guitar on the track. They do not actually play guitars. It was just for show. If you had Kami band to back you up youd need to be pretty good to guest guitar for them

Nice, but much better is the Painkiller version of Lovebites (imo even better than the original). As far as I know there is no live version on YT, but a fan made version by DPAT with many pictures of LB.
