Mooie registraties! Totaal andere interpretatie dan de prijswinnaar, waarbij mijn voorkeur uitgaat naar jouw interpretatie. Ben benieuwd naar jouw versie van Panufnik!

DITTo from a veteran organist in the U.S. Knowing German comes in handy sometimes, right? I got schooled by 2 teachers, Utah and Frankfurt/Main, themselves *mentored* directly by Straube and Ramin before and also right during the quick nazification of....OmgNO: Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Leipzig Conservatory 1933/34. 1) Those principals 8' make me cry like a baby. 💧 You Dutch and your tradition of cutting the tin with a little or a lot of lead. And look! It has taken over the world post-Orgelbewegung. Except, methinks, no one has 100% put her or his finger on the secrets behind the "cantabile" that rips your heart out in Dutch principals 8'. Even with Flentrop of the 50s - 70s this kind of "singing" is maybe a bit obscured, but it is still there! In the genes I guess! 2) Am 💯satisfied by the mind and heart that *chose* this reltively incognito piece of JSB's. I mean: chose to internalize the work where a) nothing can go wrong technically in performance, and b) you make it 51% Bach's and 49% your own, and c) all things that make up "musical" performance come together, alla Bach, "to bring you to the verge of tears--but only the verge." (Teacher #1) The right proportions of legato, breaths, organ-articulations, gives and takes in the tempo, "arching" the phrases just so, that take into account the message of the composition. And what a message in c moll!! Could be dark if that's what I need from Bach. Or on the verges of "Light." As you discovered, good Steven, it's both and many places in between. As such the work--am assuming--about still-youthful-mid.career among B's oeuvre--holds a unique place. It's that piece you have practiced well enough to the level of "right notes and steady end tempo." *That* piece happens late night in a dark church, player up in organ loft. A vibe you cannot explain comes over you. For one thing--a quote by teacher #2 quoting Schweitzer: "you know you are an organist." I'd add: you know it's your destiny even if it's not your main hustle. You evoked the best in me, man. Thank you well!! Mark

@@markbell9973 dear Mark, thank you for your words. And yes, I love music and especially the organ (with those singing Dutch principals 😊). I found it very interesting to read you are in line with the great organist Straube. I hope to upload some works by Max Reger as well in the future as it is one of my favorite composers. Many thanks again and best regards, Steven
