I know of a girl who has 50k in student debt after completing a 5 year deegre in Hand studies...Aka the study on how your hands affect your everyday life. She got a job at Subway right after her education so her Deegre wasn't completely pointless.

I once had someone drop off an application for a company I was working for years ago. This guy had Subway listed as one of his previous employers and under job title he wrote “sandwich artist.” I felt secondhand cringe for the guy because I’d never put such a stupid title on a resume or application. If that’s what they’re still being called then her degree certainly wasn’t wasted 😂

Her final dissertation for her diploma was titled 'Development on make-up styles based on the characteristics of astrological signs'... You can't make this stuff up.. Her only saving grace was she wasn't born in the US, so she didn't need to go 50k in debt for it, but other than that...

My father, uncle, and grandfather were professors and spent their lives in academia. They are deeply offended by the notion that for-profit schools are viable. It broke their heart when I described just how pathetic my university experience was. I have absolutely learned more on KZbin screwing off than I learned in college while earning several degrees. Universities are a freaking joke. I tried to convince my daughter to get her GED and start college at age 14. She argued she was t ready for it. Now, she's 19, and going to the flagship university in our state on scholarship. She recently told me she should have done college at 14, that most of her classes are stupid easy, and most of the kids are just using AI to do their work.

Universities have been so dumbed down over the past two decades. Very few universities now have degree programs that are credible. I graduated from a reputable, private DC university in ‘89. Still have nightmares about attending the math and language requirements during the four years. Had an Army ROTC scholarship so had no debt and actually made a few dollars at the end before being packed off to Panama for two years a few weeks after the Christmas ‘89 invasion.

I had to take my Computer Information Systems classes in the building where the business school was operating because they decided that CIS is best placed within the business department. A good portion of my classmates were business students taking Social Media marketing and other similar types of marketing majors. The first time someone introduced themselves and proudly declared their major, I locked eyes with the cyber security professor and stifled a laugh. Dude was a professional and put on a poker face.

How do these degrees help the student learn to order their thoughts, discipline their intellect, regulate their emotions or even establish principles. The latter the three aspects of the real definition of "education". At least in the past, the history, philosophy major was honed against well seasoned material. English majors, at least, learned to write well. But even that is no more.

Well I don't think this is actually a degree majoring in Facebook, it's digital media which encompasses digital media advertising and that is the way of the future and the way of right now when I started my company I didn't know anything about digital media advertising so I had to teach myself really quick to be able to compete. Every company is now hiring a digital media department and yes it does include Facebook and Instagram because that's where the eyeballs are and that's where the ads end up so it's not quite as frivolous as you may think and it could be useful There aren't very many real jobs anymore besides being a nurse for women

UX isn't all horsesh*t in its defense. People won't stay on your website if the experience is awful, especially if they came by referal (aka potential customers). You don't need a full degree for that though. Common sense and perhaps a few training programs are completely sufficient.
