BACK IN A SHOP AGAIN

So I googled "Peterbilt 389 lane wandering" thinking this might be a known issue for the 389. I pulled up this message board website with this guy who has a 389 with the same thing going on. He did alignments replaced tie rods did a whole bunch of stuff that never fixed the problem. Until he took it to this one shop. It turned out he had air in the steering box. They jacked up the front end, turned the truck off, took the cap to the power steering reservoir off, and then turned the steering wheel lock to lock like 20-25 times to bleed the air out. After that, he never had a problem. I don't know if this might be what's going on with your truck, but it couldn't hurt to try it out. I don't think a shop would charge you too much just to jack the front end up. I hope whatever is going on with Blue you find it soon. I'd hate to see you part ways with that beautiful truck. I've been thinking. When I worked at a Chevy dealer, we had a customers 4wd pickup that would try to come around sideways on slippery roads in 4wd. Now I know these are 2 completely different vehicles. They found that GM had installed 2 different gear ratios front to back. That being said, has anyone verified that your drives are the same ratio?

Haven’t had anybody verify that, but only one axle drives on a truck unless you’re stuck somewhere and you turn on your four wheels on

I just put on brand new leaf springs couple days ago so I guess we’ll find out once I start driving if it’s any better. Old leaf springs were not cracked when I took them off.

Okay, congratulations on your new president. We had a cabover we bent the axle which didn't end good, the axle after a few months bent it self beyond where it was originally. The next thing we figured out was it didn't like a certain brand of tires, after changing brands it cured the problem. Sorry this was almost 40 years ago so i cant remember all the particulars. I know we had to buy a new axle so twisting the axle is sketchy may weakened it. Could be tires, for example Michelin have soft sidewalls, Bridgestone have harder sidewalls.

​@@davidforbes6250measure center of steering axle to centre of each drive axle to see if measurements are exactly the same both sides. Possible rear axles fighting each other or not squared to front. I would think they would catch that at the alignment, but who knows.

I watch all of your videos and every time you are parked to fuel islands or at some docks to load or unload, I allways see your bumper leaning down to the helper side. Can it be a frame problem? Is the problem happening when your heavy loaded or light loaded because maybe you don't have enough weight on that front axel when it's raining and before spending a lot of $$$$ on new front leafs, maybe an air ride on that front axel may help. That's all I can think of to help. Stay safe !

I had an old pickup that would wander and I know the steering gear box was sloppy and tie rod ends were worn-out ,could be front tires have flimsy side walls and are the grooves on steers running straight, have you hit a curb or has the truck been in a wreck. Bendin with bendon seems like the go to guy.

Are there bearings in your steering column? I had a Ford Dually that used to wander around, and it was the bearings in the column itself.... I don't know, just throwing stuff out there.

Had that too. Also check the spacing in the air leafs , making sure rear axles are straight and not fighting each other. The problem sounds to be in the rear not the front.

I replaced the steering shaft in a spray, but it will still do it at after I replaced the steering shaft. So unfortunately, it’s not that.

After watching this video and listening to what peterbuilt was going to do to fix your problem and doing a bit of questioning you may have the solution narrowed down. They are adjusting the camber which is how the front wheels are aligned have you replaced the camber rods and plates? If the front wheels are cambered inward it will so tire ware, and make the truck feel unstable. Research camber my friend on goggle and it really explains it well. Hopefully this helps in all your videos I don't remember you talking about wheel camber. If I'm wasting your time I am terribly sorry.

I don't think it's your suspension or alot of the other things you done. You have spent alot of money on this truck. I feel it's just the roads with rain an snow.
