The sports orthopedic and spine in Jackson TN was so terrible I was paralyzed at age 23 and my life has been a constant battle to get back to health and stay there. I'm so glad I found you.

It would be great if you provided content featuring gymnasts, dancers, swimmers, and contortionists with scoliosis, and how they practice/protect their spines. Also, content explaining some common injuries people with scoliosis can get, ie; "spondi's". Thanks.

Omg I want to hug you! thank you so much for all those videos ❤ I’ve never had any chance for someone to tell me how to exercise properly without paying good amount of money, and even with that they tell you the bare minimum.. I want to improve and strengthen my back so I can become a better dancer and I don’t want my scoliosis to stop me

I have a c-curve and these are all the stretches that feel the best for my spine and seem to give me relief :(
@TSCConnect2 жыл бұрын
Hi Emma - if you have a curve that's stable and you don't have pain etc, and you feel that sidebends and twists work for you, then please do continue doing them and seek individual advice to review the stretches if you're concerned. If you have ongoing back pain, what we've found is that many people feel good immediately after doing some stretches like this, but then their pain continues for days/weeks/months so sometimes we suggest to pause these full range spine movements to get the pain under control. We also make these suggestions to avoid certain stretches for people who have a progressing curve, or who have lots of pain... but if you aren't one of those people, then you don't have to take our advice :)

I also have a C-curve and lately have been suffering with lombar pain. I started a program to decompress the lombar and back extensions have been tremendously helpful. I'm continuously improving from the pain. It's disheartening to know that these exercises could worsen my scoliosis which is already accentuated. @@TSCConnect

Thank you for your very informative videos. Can someone with a mild degenerative scoliosis uses back extension machine and GHD machine at the gym? I appreciate your response.
@TSCConnect Жыл бұрын
That really depends on how high you're lifting your body, and what your technique is while you're doing the movement. For the GHD machine, try not to lift past neutral because that may create an arch in the spine. However, these aren't hard and fast rules - if your scoliosis is stable, and you're not experiencing symptoms, lifting into full range may be okay for you. Please ask a scoliosis-trained Physiotherapist or trainer near to if you're wondering about your specific techniques.

Hi thanks for the video, I just wanted to know if the downward dog and the Cat position are bad back stretches ?
@TSCConnect2 жыл бұрын
Downward dog is great as long as you’re able to keep your trunk neutral and not overarch. For cat and cow positions, try to move in small range and not to the maximum curl and arch.

Can scoliosis can be treated by chiropractic? I’m in pain right now . My muscle always stiff . Sometimes do exercise give me more pain

Potentially, depending if that chiropractor is trained in scoliosis-specific principles and treatment techniques

This left me wondering if this also applies to a treated scoliosis? And by this I mean spinal fusion. 🤔 Should I still avoid these stretches? I cannot recall my doctor saying anything about it when I had the surgery 10 years ago. 😄
@TSCConnect Жыл бұрын
For the most part, all of our workouts and advice apply to people who have scoliosis and yes, also apply to people who are post-op fusion ☺️. For fusion, it really depends what segments your spine was fused, and how your body is moving now. We typically recommend to keep spine neutral movements post-op, but if you have specific questions about specific exercises, please find a scoliosis-trained physio near you (or come visit us at The ScoliClinic in Vancouver 🇨🇦)

I have scoliosis and whenever I do these type of stretches it feel so good, should I stop? It relieves so much pain
@TSCConnect8 ай бұрын
That's a difficult question to answer as we don't know the situation of your specific curve, or any insight into what causes your pain. Please find a scoliosis-trained physiotherapist in your area who can assess and guide you.

Hi, thanks for this vid. I do ballet and I love it very much, but I am scared for my spine.I have a moderate curve of 22 degrees. Many steps in ballet require extensions and twisting which are usually high impact during turns etc. Do I have to quit ballet? My doctor says my degree is not stable yet. Are there any excercises or particular moves in ballet which i really should avoid, or any excercises that I can execute that will both help my spine and flexibility as I really want to continue dance. Thank you
@TSCConnect Жыл бұрын
Great question. These questions about specific dance moves and exercises for spine flexibility are very specific to you and your curve, and if your curve is still changing, please seek advice from your doctor or a scoliosis-trained physiotherapist in your area.

I’m a contortionist, but I think a got scoliosis because I have uneven shoulders and I searched any other symptoms. Should I stop doing contortion? Any advice can help
@TSCConnect Жыл бұрын
Wow, being a contortionist is really amazing! That's a tough question to answer, and in fact we can't give advice on KZbin. Typically, our discussions with our clients focus on how some warm-ups and positions in sports can be modified, and what exercises can be done in training to maintain balance. However, contortion requires full ranges of motion so it would be important to consider if your curve is progressing, the size of it, if you're experiencing any pain or symptoms, etc. If there's a physician or trainer that you work with, please do ask if they know a scoliosis-trained professional who can provide you with more direction.

What if we do the forward bend hamstring stretch without rounding out our back (keeping the back straight instead)? Is that ok for the spine/take off pressure on discs?
@TSCConnect Жыл бұрын
Yes if you're able to maintain a neutral spine and hinge at the hips, that's great

Can the scoliosis curves fix? As in do they become completely stuck around the rotation? I am concerned that by performing a cat cow for example to release my thoracic scoliosis that all Im doing Im doing is flattening and losing my cervical curve. I AM actually suffering with this problem and have military neck. Im doing the schroth exercises from home but my biggest problem is that I have almost no curvature from front to back in terms of almost no lumbar lordosis and thoracic kyphosis. I need to unravel my spine, I know that big breathing widening the ribs and scapula helps for thoracic spine but… how do I get the lumbar lordosis back?? Strengthen or loosen the Quadratus Lumborum? I am desperate and terrified of starting fall forward in posture and I’m trying to avoid a future surgery such as a subpedicle lobotomy which is the surgery to treat flat back syndrome.. I am 40 years old and suffered with mild scoliosis since 15. Please could you reply thank you
@TSCConnect5 ай бұрын
where are you located in the world? we can't give medical advice over youtube because we haven't seen your xrays or done any physical assessments, have you already seen a scoliosis physio in your area who can look at you individually and prescribe exercises to do to regain your kyphosis and lordosis? it really depends on how much wedging has occurred in each vertebrae.
@mattinfinity16235 ай бұрын
@@TSCConnect I’m in london but from South Africa. I have seen a schroth therapist but the emphasis seems to be on derotation and elongation. I have a dip where my kyphosis should be and due to this I have winged scapulae. I was wondering if by working on the winged scapulae that this might push the thoracic spine posteriorly back into position. I battle to keep the scapulae flush against the rib cage. I can control them with arm movement but as soon as there is some resistance like a push up there is great difficulty. There is hardly anything online about flattening of the curves, take a look for yourself. You can see in your videos that you also focus on kyphosis of thoracic spine and not on flattening. I appreciate your reply. On my xray and mri the vertebrae show teeth. Im not sure if that is wedging. Thanks so much

@TSCConnectАй бұрын
It depends on you cure size, location, symptoms, and aggravating factors for any pain; some people with scoliosis do many back bends and don't have any issues with them and don't have progressing curves. In those cases we would say that you know your body best and you can continue doing what feels good to you

There are lots of resources out there, and please consult with your doctor for specific strategies that might work for your body. On this channel, we focus more on strength, body awareness, and function rather than weight loss :)
