Ok I figured out how he split the frame at 7:40. The "trick" happens at 5:25 when he selects only one face NOT two, and pulls the one face with the alt key held down. If your having trouble getting the frame to split then you are selecting two faces which would be one face on each side of the symmetry line.

Curt, thanks for the tutorial it has certainly helped, however am having trouble trying to split the rear frame the way you did. Whenever I select the surfaces and then edit form it simply just makes the rear wider. Is there something else I am missing?

At what point did you choose to split the rear stays? It seems it happened by "happy accident". How do you control the splitting of forms being made mirrored like this.

Ahhhhhh! if you look back at 5:29 hes pulling one side and its duplicated (branched) from that point forward. All that happens at 7:40 is speading of the two already seperate tubes.

Cool! But I have problems when convert the body. It says the T-spline surfaces self- intersect. I did the model same as in the video, by creating surface, then extrude, then hold ALT and extrude until it gets to the ideal shape, with some Bridge and Crease commands. Anybody know how to solve this?

Hello Stephen - Sure thing, under the INSERT Icon, select ATTACH CANVAS, then select a plane you'd like to place it on. IF you select a PLANE, then a folder will appear called 'ATTACHED CANVAS' in the browser, and you can right click on the canvas, then EDIT OR CALIBRATE the image. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Nice video but I do not think the topology is ideal. I would thin out the amount of loop cuts and add loopcuts where needed to define more transitions between the pipes connections.

If you're looking closely you can see the green line marking the plane that's used to mirror the model. He didn't use any special function, he just pulled the tail end part of the model perpendicular from the symmetry plane. Sorry for bad wording, I hope you understand what I mean...

Curt Chan Great video But... how did you split the frame at 7:40?
@pakman422
@pakman422 7 жыл бұрын
He could do that because he had symmetry activated and since he pulled all those faces perpendicular (he only selected the faces on one side) to the plane of symmetry it split em apart at that symmetry line (the green line) because each side had to stay symmetric. (Awful lot of symmetry going on here lol) - Jacob S.

@adskFusion
@adskFusion 6 жыл бұрын
--We're seeing the same thing on our end. Let us check with the dev team to see if something has changed, and if so, whether or not it was intended. You can extrude with sym from a sketch profile, so you can create a sketch and project those faces if you're struck.--
@adskFusion
@adskFusion 6 жыл бұрын
On my second attempt it worked as expected. Not sure what, if anything changed, but for some reason I was having a terrible time trying to select my group of faces. Double clicking seemed to help.... the sketch profile is still a valid alternative.

We just recently updated to the blue UI, so if we did that we'd have hardly any videos. We won't remove videos with old UI until we have suitable replacement. The functionality is still the same, so the lessons are still valuable.
