In this video I talk a little bit about what I’ve been doing lately in terms of language learning. I’m so excited to have resumed my Japanese studies after almost a six-month hiatus.
I know that I lot of you are disappointed that I haven’t uploaded any videos in Arabic or Arabic lessons in a really long time. I unfortunately just haven’t felt very motivated to make videos speaking Arabic lately, and as for actual lessons I’ve sort of come to the realization that its just too complicated for me as a non-native speaker to make sure that everything I’m teaching in the videos is 100% correct, even with the help of native speakers. So for now I unfortunately won’t be uploading any more Arabic lessons😔 From now on I would like to focus on making videos in various languages on different subjects related to language learning (whenever I happen to feel like it lol). I’m not sure whether to change this channel’s name or start a new one🤔 What do you guys think?
Anyway, I’m really sorry to anyone who is disappointed by this. I hope you understand!❤️

I'd say just change the channel name to something more generic.

I mean, you might have to change the name if you want to add content in other languages but maybe to something familiar, maybe Simply Spoken? Or something like that?

Don't feel bad! This is your channel! Do what makes you happy! I'm self learning Chinese too so we are Mandarin buddies lol. I'm using Assimil Chinese and when you said assimilate I was like I HAVE to recommend it now lol. Don't give up, I want to also understand Chinese in KZbin, podcasts, Netflix, but it's gonna take a while but that's okay. It's not a race it's about enjoying the process :) 加油!!!!

EriB haha I have to constantly remind myself of that! I’ve never tried Assimil before but from what I can see it’s pretty similar to Teach Yourself. I’ll have to try it someday :)

You're welcome ! I'm glad you found Skritter as youseful as I do :) Writing characters helped me to memorize them as well. Beware of the burden of daily reviews that may be a consequence of adding enthusiastically too much character each day. My goal in mandarin is the same as yours. I hope I'll be there when I get to know 3000 characters (I'm at 2300 and still unable to read newspapers xD but I have to focus more on listening and reading comprehension). Keep on going you're awesome!

I just want to thank you for your work on Arabic language lessons. Your playlist has really helped me understand essential expressions. People like you and Manolis from Language Transfer really know how to teach a foreign language in an effective way. It saddens me to hear that you are studying Japanese and Mandarin in old-fashioned methods. I strongly believe that it is better to train your ears and learn to speak first before working on characters.

@@thelanguagelife7962 I guess it wasn't really nice of me to comment on how someone studies languages. It's just that I've come to think that a language should be first developed through ears and I couldn't hold myself. For example, the most casual register of Japanese comes from the times before Chinese characters got imported, and the sound of は for はっぱ (leaf) はな(flower; nose) はし(chopstick; edge; bridge). means something pointy and they are all derivative from the same root mora, but how could one possibley develop that sense if you start from kanjis of 葉 花 鼻 箸 端 橋 and don't hear the music of the language!?

For learning Japanese I found the Nihongo Sou Matome books series really helpful. Quite difficult at the beginning, but I loved how they explain Japanese grammar in a comprehensible way with a lot of examples. Their kanji learning books are also quite good and enjoyable. I also suggest you the KZbin channel "Japanese ammo with Misa", she is a natural teacher and can explain different concepts in a very straightforward way. When learning languages, persistence is the key, keep up the great work you are doing! ✌ Davide from Italy 🇮🇹

Nice dedication. I know of a very good Chinese “teach yourself” textbook. It is taught in Russian, however, and is called “Китайский с Лаоши,” or “Chinese with Laoshi.” It is a very good resource for beginners and intermediate speakers. I want to study another language, I speak Spanish and Russian, but I can’t seem to find a language that strikes me just as well as Spanish or Russian - I studied because I loved the music. Why do you study Japanese? I want to get into it, but I just can’t. I need to hear or see something I really like to start learning a new language. Stupid question: given your knowledge of languages, do you happen to know anyone who studies Uzbek or Dari? I want to studying Uzbek but there are absolutely no (good) resources for this in the States. Cheers!

JFL S I just love the way Japanese sounds and am fascinated with Japan as a country! I unfortunately don’t know anyone who studies those languages. Maybe settle for Farsi if you can’t find anything for Dari? I’ve seen some Farsi resources on Amazon that looked pretty good.
