The Band performs Chuck Berry's Back to Memphis in Vancouver, 1983. Is that Robbie Robertson dancing in the isle near the end?

James Lumpkin I agree, maybe I wouldn't be quite so hateful towards Robertson, but I do think it was a cruddy thing he did. He seems to have had a huge ego and had it stroked by Scorsese etc. These four guys and the musicians they worked with made some wonderful music after Robbie left them. I'm not decrying Robbie as a musician - the five guys together created alchemy, but on his own I find him a tad bland whereas The Band stayed rootsy.
@elizabethcoopers9017 жыл бұрын
+James Lumpkin you were blessed to have met him to me he is and always will be the greatest drummer and musician that ever lived outside of Freddie Mercury and he couldn't drum

“ The Band “......... Some might agree ? Maybe not ? The perfect artist line up , all coming together......? And when each of them , was in their OWN grove ..... All different. YET....... They somehow enhance each other’s abilities........? SO ......... Does that just “ HAPPEN “ ? A happenstance sort of thing ?

Sorry, but that's not The Band, but it IS Levon and Richard Manuel. And no, Robbie wouldn't have been onstage with Levon at that time in either man's life. Levon didn't want anything to do with Robbie after the Last Waltz--and I heard and saw this direct from Lee.
@kenmerrigan98710 жыл бұрын
Rick and Garth are also in this lineup, so its 80% of the band. Levon and Robbie feuded for years, but made their peace with each other when Robbie went to visit Levon near the end. Pretty awesome version of Back To Memphis at any rate.
@pac40110 жыл бұрын
Just read Levon's book and you'll get your explanation why and how the feud started.

Robbie didn't make The Band. He was as important part as the others, but The Band was just a little different in the 80s and 90s. "It makes no difference, when Robbie's gone... The Band never seems to fade away."

I'll be 63 in April, didn't find the band till '71 in ninth grade. Bummed I found them towards the end of the line, then The Last Waltz hits. His solo "stuff" after was kinda rocky, all over the place, but the tone of that voice always found you. @@patmiddleton3947

Members of the Cate Brothers Band, like Levon, from Arkansas. Earl Cate on lead guitar, Ron Eof on bass, and Levon's nephew, Terry Cagle, on drums. Ernie Cate, Earl's twin, wearing a cowboy hat, is seen briefly on keys. Levon toured a lot with the Cate Brothers after The Band broke up. (For what it's worth, Earl's a better player than Robbie...)
