+Georga Wheatland oh I forgot to mention velcro! My last room didnt have the material boards so I didnt stock them last year. I usually get the roll of velcro though and cut off pieces. Thanks for the tip Georga! ❤️❤️

My classroom was refurbished 6 months ago, and I have a ton of beautiful display boards now, so it's velcro dot heaven! One of my goals this year is to display more student work. I don't like much clutter though, so displays on windows and being strung overhead drive me crazy! I just feel like my head is too full and I'm drowning in stuff. I think I'll bring my kids into that conversation and get their opinion too.

+Tracy's Primary Pandemonium you hit the nail on the head. I hate too much stuff everywhere as it jusy looked messy. Luckily the string in our rooms is high enough that it doesn't end up looking cluttered but those low ones some classrooms have do my head in. I'd love to see your displays of student work! ❤️

Printed contact - genius! I'm going to use it on my paper displays too. When I change my displays I won't replace the contact as the paper will tear underneath. I'll just put the new contact straight over top of the previous one. So happy with this tip. THANK YOU! You've saved me $$$$$$$$ in coloured borders.

+Natalie Wilkinson there's some really cool contact options now too with movie themes etc. I'd love to see some pictures of your finished displays! ❤️

I love your office! Great windows and light. Very nice :) I love the photo timeline idea!!! Dunno if I could get away with that in high school though.... :/

+Kafoople Land why not? I know its harder in high schools if you dont have your own space but that just means more opportunities to collaborate 😉

I am lucky to have my own classroom but a display that's not inside a classroom usually does not last, unfortunately. :(

I have used a ‘prize box’, Dojo points, table group points, ‘Wow Charts’, certificates,etc previously. But with all the focus and teaching around Growth Mindset, giving out prizes/points for making appropriate choices or doing their personal best, doesn’t feel right anymore. Should we be reinforcing making good choices, because it’s the right thing to do, personal success & satisfaction, achieving goals etc, rather than to get a prize/point? I’d love to hear your thoughts Bec.

+Tamara Hayes I think there's a good time and place for rewards and prizes. It's a good way to help some kids transition from extrinsic motivation to intrinsic motivation. Especially kids with behavioural difficulties like ODD. The key is the conversation that goes with it. Kids need to know the reason behind it and know that the same behaviour doesn't automatically warrant a reward, but that it sometimes will receive a reward 😀 thanks so much for sharing ❤️

Hi Bec, love your videos, very useful information! I'm just wondering where you got the cushion for your milk crate? I managed to score 4 just recently and want to make/buy cushions for them. Thanks in advance
@talkinchalk7 жыл бұрын
+Kate Brace we made the cushions from a big roll of foam and cut into squares. Then stuck them on top of a square piece of wood and wrapped in material. Im going to try and make a how to video on them 😉

That would be awesome Bec, thanks :-)

Love the wires across the classroom. But we need to peg the work at the bottom otherwise the vacuum blows them off and it annoys the cleaners no end 😅
@talkinchalk7 жыл бұрын
+SarahAnn91 how strong is the vaccuum?! 😂
@SarahAnn917 жыл бұрын
Talkin' Chalk not strong enough apparently. They're back pack vacuums so I guess they shoot up what normal vacuums shoot backwards and because they're high on people's backs it's an issue.

Magnetic tape! Great if you have whiteboards, to hold up resources etc while you are teaching! 😊

That’s lovely - but latest research shows that classrooms that are too bright and decorated actually hinder student learning. I teach in an IB school where the focus is on current inquiry learning. Pretty classrooms are a American phenomenon.

Hi Donna. Absolutely agree and I have discussed this in other videos. I've never advocated that classrooms are overly colourful or cluttered. A pinterest classroom does not automatically mean it's a quality learning environment. I prefer the minimal look with flexible learning which I show in my 360 degree classroom video 😀 thanks for watching ❤️
