Timely video. It’s amazing how much stuff they need to furnish a place. Shane is SO fortunate to have such supportive parents. Just this morning I said a tearful “so long” to my oldest granddaughter who is leaving today to start her first year at a college in WashDC, all the way from the Seattle area. She and parents are flying and she’s packed only two suitcases and a carry-on with dorm room furnishings to be purchased in DC. I’ve cried my eyes out but know she has great opportunities ahead.

This video showed up in my feed and I’m late in watching, but I can totally relate! We will be moving our son out of his current apartment at MSU and into a new apartment with a week in-between, so we will have to put his belongings in storage. The U-Haul van is just like the Penske van that we rented when we moved our son out of the dorm his first year. We drove ours around when we were on campus too. Shane’s cottage looks great!

Hi Marnie, Thanks for letting us all tag along virtually on your back to college vlog. Shane's cottage looks really nice. Love little Lola (so did my dog Charlotte who had to watch that section of your video). I purchased the Kendra Scott necklace your wore for myself using my husband's birthday a few weeks ago. It is such a pretty stone. I think the salesperson said it was a night opal. I'm glad you and Michael had a fun trip spending time with Shane, seeing friends and just enjoying the sights. A girlfriend of 34 years decided she didn't want to be friends anymore because I'm friends with someone she had a falling out with. I know it's so ridiculous! This video really hit home because we just spent a week with our son in San Diego before moving him in Friday for his freshman year at SDSU. Definitely didn’t have everything you did but lol, our dining table was full for a week b4 we left(not the room so much tho😉). But…we recently bought a condo and left the kids the house that they are renting from us, and we left the travel coffee maker with them. Lol. When my son went off to college (40 minutes away) we decided to buy a condo up close to campus. That was a hard moving day for sure with all the furniture and the kitchen supplies. It was crazy hot and humid also. The condo looks more like an apartment and his unit is on the third floor. You get a work out with the steps for sure. The view and security is worth it though. When my other son moves up next year at least we won't have too much more to bring. I had bought my son a brand new mattress and he made a headboard for the bed. I have told him I will buy him a new mattress and headboard and he can leave the bed for his brother. That way we don't have to move two beds. He can get his headboard back when his brother is done. I am hoping he takes me up on it. If we don't need to rent a U-haul we can move in stages since it is so close which is nice. Shane's place is really nice. What a neat neighborhood. I bet he will enjoy living there. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

Hi Marnie! Love Ole Miss! I mentioned to you several years ago that I had a granddaughter, Hannah who was a year ahead of Jake was also attending college there. She is still there finishing up her Masters program this year and also bartending at the Library (good money). We haven't been to Oxford in about a year since Covid. We love it there, though!! I know we will travel there when she graduates again! Thanks for sharing.

Being from Oxford and no longer living there, I love watching your Ole Miss vlogs because it's fun to see glimpses of my hometown. But sometimes you'll point out all these "fun" things (like the Grove being full of people), and I'm like "Yep, that's why I moved." 😂In all seriousness, glad you enjoy Oxford! I love the cottage that your son is moving into! So nice and cute! That style of housing didn’t really start becoming a thing until I was closing in on the end of my educational journey as a young adult. The best I got was a 3-4 bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms…or my own 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment. Which, granted, none of those were bad living arrangements. Granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, etc. I’m in my mid-30’s now, single, and make a more than respectable wage. I would still love to have a “cottage” like that for myself. 😂 One of the main things I’ve always wanted and never have had…French doors leading to a nice, big deck/patio. LOL. But, I do live out in the country with 10 acres of land, and have a big pond right beside my house all to myself, so I’m not doing horribly. 😂 And Lola is freaking adorable!!!! 😊🥰😊 I almost ended up with a rescue Pekingese puppy a few years ago that looked sooo much like Lola. But, I ended up with a Shiranian (Shih Tzu/Pomeranian mix) instead. So, I can’t say if her crying out is normal for that breed. But, my Shiranian can be either a freaking angel or a total brat, depending on her mood and how needy she is any given day. Honestly, though, she’s usually a super-patient angel. I work night shift, and often flip back-and-forth between operating on days or nights. And she just accommodates my crazy schedule. Whether I’m sleeping during the day or night, she either snuggles up and sleeps with me, or just goes off and does her own thing.

I love that Shane has a whole laundry basket full of shoes. Love your green eyelet blouse. I am crazy about that pink t-shirt! I am so bummed that I didn't get it, when I could. They don't have it in pink anymore. Wow! Only two pair of shoes for a week. I don't know if I could do it. A curtain instead of a door for the bathroom?! Yikes! What a nice little cottage. Lola is adorable, but very noisy. I agree that there is something really satisfying about putting something together. I love the stuff The Mustard Seed has! Maybe someday you'll have a little granddaughter you can buy those cute things for. I have two boys, also. One has given me a grandson and granddaughter. We live in CA & last weekend we flew w/ our oldest across the country to drop him off in FL for college. First time dorm shopping & moving a kid in, it was fun but also made my heart ache. Of course I didn’t show it, I just wanted him to be excited. But man when our plane lifted off to go back home I cried buckets. It’s been a week & I miss him terribly. So weird to have completely opposite emotions...happy & sad.... simultaneously! We won’t get to see him again until XMas😭Thx for the vlog Marnie, it was fun to watch!

Not everyone lives on campus. I never did and neither did my husband. My son also does not live in campus. My son who will be in college next year will also live in our house.

Usually only the freshman live on campus-for the majority of colleges, it's required that freshman live on campus. After that, the majority move off campus into some sort of rental and/or into their fraternity/sorority house.

@@MsGoldgirl Only required if the student is not living at parent/guardian house. That would only be possible if within driving distance of course. My sons live at home because we live close to their university. Plus, they prefer their own rooms to sharing a dorm. ;)

@@vesch5083 I’m not including commuters. For most traditional 4 year colleges, especially those in a “college town” the vast majority of students live on campus their freshman year.

@@MsGoldgirl I was only trying to explain it to Jessica above since it seems she's not from America. She seemed she was under the impression that all college students have to live in dorms. I know you know that. :) There are many ways to experience college in the States, and I wanted to let her know that not every student does it the same. It's amazing to see how you support your sons. Just because our "babies" are older than 18 doesn't mean we mom's aren't necessary any more.

Ummm…she is a Pekingese?!!! So adorable, but I don’t think you train a Pekingese (they train you). Our 8 year old is so smart, but she does what she wants, when she wants.
