Childminder or a nanny means one extra person who loves Rowan in his life - my mum nannied a family for 8/10 years in the 80s and we are still so close. I ended up growing up with 4 older siblings and Faux-grandparents not in my family, and it was brilliant!

I'm a nanny for a family that I've worked for since their now 9 year old was 3.5. This is honestly so true. I love those three kids more than anything consider them family. It has been truly a gift to have had the opportunity to watch these kids grow up and learn. As their mom tells her friends, the kids having a nanny doesn't mean that she loves them less, it means that she loves herself to be able to take time for self-care and career development.

Yes my mum and aunt are still in contact with the children of the woman who used to nanny them, they went to their weddings and get the occasional photo of their kids, etc. It’s really sweet.

I echo this. I grew up with two full (very full) time working parents. Being the last one in after school club all the time was pretty sad. But going round to Rae's was lovely. It felt like being with a member of the extended family. She taught me to knit; she recorder Blue Peter episodes on video; she had a gorgeous golden Labrador/greyhound cross called Cleo who I would walk on a second lead whilst she held the first as I wasn't strong enough. That was from ages 7-10 I think so over 15 years ago and I still remember.

@@peachxtaehyung Perhaps, but also he can't really consent since he's an infant and part of a parent's job is to provide boundaries until they're old enough to understand and give informed consent themselves. There are no down sides to not showing his face, and it could easily help him avoid mental health or other issues later. I admire Hannah's commitment to this kind of boundary, though of course it'd be great to see his cute lil face.

My mum went back to work part time when I was 2 months old and then I started going to a childminder when I was 4 months old and while I’m sure it must’ve been hard for her to leave her little baby there, I’m so thankful she did because my childminder is like an bonus granny to me. I honestly couldn’t imagine my life without her. She used to come to all my birthdays with the rest of my family, her home has always felt like a second home and I visit her every time I’m back home now, 24 years later 😁 So while I’m sure it’s so stressful for you now, maybe it helps to see it as an opportunity for him to develop great relationships with other people 😊

I'm from a culture where that's quite normal, it really isn't that unusual to have that one friend you "met" at the child minder's when you were a few months old that you have until the end of primary school. If your kid likes the adults and one or two other kids at their childcare, they're going to be fine.

as a person without children but observing plenty of work mates - once breast feeding is less of a concern, consider including a full day of child minding, even if that means dropping one of the half days. A lot of time is spent on the drop off and pick up, so you save that time. You wont have to interrupt your workflow as much but also.... take 2 hours of that time to get non work stuff done. watch a movie, catch up with a friend, do shopping, have a nap or some bedroom fun times. its okay to use child minding for things other than work, especially if it means the time you get to spend with your kids then becomes way more about them.

(I don't wanna speak for Hannah but) working is probably something she enjoys, and finding a balance between that and caring for her baby may very well be what makes her the happiest. Dividing your time between different activities doesn't mean you are missing out on one of them, and the same goes for spending time with your child

If Rowan is often fussy like this and doesn't want to be put down, you might want to try a baby sling or carrier. Many babies just want body contact and a sling frees your hands which allows you to get other stuff done while still giving them what they need.

Go you for keeping Rowan's face private - it no doubt makes filming harder/you have to be more conscious of what's in shot, but I know he'll appreciate when he's older being able to choose how much of his life is shared online! Also think of the childminding as just another person to love on him, and it also means you can be the best version of yourself since you are able to continue your passions in your work. I’m a childminder! It’s cliche to say, but as soon as the children first enter my home they are family 💕 I care for a group of boys at the moment who are all in one-child households, but they have brothers in each other, it’s the same relationship dynamic and their parents all love it! What is a childminder? What do you do?

@@ZairaBandy childminders are similar to nursery in that we offer childcare in the early years, aged 0-5 years, but also to older children if we choose. We are Ofsted registered (the UKs governing body for education) and trained in first aid and safeguarding, as well as a childcare qualification. We work from our homes, with less children than nurseries. We provide education to the early years using a curriculum of our choice, mine is learning through play and experience, so we go on lots of outings to really improve the children’s understanding of the world. Last week we went to the zoo, the farm, the museum, a fun day organised by the council, and we go to a care home once a week and sing nursery rhymes with them (this is my favourite, it enriches the children, they love playing and sharing instruments, but also the residents - a lady with dementia attends and her carers say she’s the most alert around the children). Being a childminder means opening your home to children whose parents are working, giving them a loving and caring environment to learn and grow. Sorry if I’ve rambled, I’m passionate about my job 💕

I worked in childcare for 10 years with the little ones(under 1) I promise you most babies love it! The extra attention and social interaction is all good. My mum was studying for her general nurses exam when I popped out the sunroof. She had to stay in hospital for a week so decided to crack on with some studying whilst she was healing and had help. Then Christmas came so studying was abandoned. She’d take me to the hospital library to study after Christmas and I was such a chill baby/good sleeper none of the other nurses knew I was there until I screamed for my feed and nappy change. I was very cute so was forgiven. So welcome to doing life with a baby!

Everyone has partner guilt. My dad had to take annual leave day so my mum could take her general nursing exam when I was about 2 months old. She was still breastfeeding and the exam was an all day thing (she managed to come home for everyone’s lunch). But my dad loved having a day off to catch up on some sport and watch a couple of movies whilst I was passed out on him (he was a great baby bed). Dads like an excuse to not work and have fun with the kids I think

💐Please don’t feel bad, Hannah! Remember that it’s two of you and when you’re home juggling work and the baby, your partner is at work doing their thing not juggling a baby. Point being, please don’t feel bad for there being an active teamwork going on- it’s a beautiful thing! Society has taught us women to feel guilt if we’re not doing it all (child-rearing, work, cooking, cleaning, making sure the social life is staying active, planning etc etc). Plus! Getting both of you will do wonders for little one’s secure attachment.

It's really exciting to see you back and a little snippet of your new mum life! I returned to work when our son was 16 weeks so I know how hard that is emotionally because they feel so tiny still and I hated having to put him in childcare etc but needs must! It does get easier as time goes by + I think our son is much more confident socially because of it (whilst also still loving being as close to his Mummy as possible!) 💛

My nanny was the best, her an her husband were our second set of parents and i just can't imagine never having known them! My parents always said how immensely grateful they were, both working full-time demanding jobs, and me being just about 3 month old with a heavy surgery as a baby, to have someone they could trust implicitly to look after me. If you strike gold, nannies can really become indispensable and an integral part of the family, I hope this turns out the same for you!

Look up wonder weeks! They are really hard weeks while baby makes developmental leaps (hence the really good things like smiles). It helps know that it's temporary. I went back to work at 2.5 weeks with my first and 6 weeks with my 2nd/3rd. It is HARD! You do whatever feels best for you.

I think childcare part time will be good for him. It's more experiences which have to be good for his brain, plus his mum being creatively fulfilled is gonna lead to a happier mum and a happier baby. He's going to be safe and happy and well looked after with the childminder, plus it's only part time! There's no one way to be a parent that is gonna work for everyone, and it sounds like you have a great plan that's hopefully going to work well for your little family.

So good to see you back and don't get mum guilt over how young Rowan is and going to a child minders. I worked in a nursery for years and the youngest we would take was 6 weeks old. Whether mum's would go back to work for financial reasons or mental health reasons doesn't matter. He's in good care and like you said in this video you can't do it all. Modern day tells women you can have it all, career and family life but you can't do it all at the same time. You have to segment your time so you can do your absolute best in each role. If you try and juggle both at the same time neither work or Rowan will recieve the best version of you. There's also that moment that you need to make time for you, not work you or mummy you, just you and putting them in childcare to have that time isn't a reason to feel guilty either. You can't pour from an empty cup. Also love the fact you're not showing him online 💕

First, Mazel Tov! Welcome to modern parenthood: daily emotional roller coaster and always feeling guilty about something. It’s the best, but nothing is harder. I had to go back to work full time since my child was 11 weeks old, broke my heart but you’ll both survive. Sending love and support to all of you :)
