Awesome journey through the gnarliest bits of the UTBDR! Unfortunately that Utah weather will win if it wants to. No shame in calling it... the trails north would have been impassible in a 4x4 with all the mud. Still... the Lockhart Basin is no joke! Well done through there!!!

Thanks! It’s pretty much how a lot of our trips go. Even though Murphy is never invited he always comes along. Literally record lows and snowfall for that time of year.lol

Thank you and thank you!! Had a dirt bike when I was young (20) and rode the woods, strip mine and coal fields of Tuscaloosa and Brookwood Counties (AL) with a dear friend. That was 49 years ago. Over the years, I've driven motorcycles of all types - all owned by friends. It's been a dream of mine to take a cross country motorcycle trip since I was 13. Unless something remarkable happens, videos like yours are as close as I''ll ever get. Vicarious though they are, your videos are a treasure and better than any production from the Film Factory. There is an unseen uncool group of us out here who value your work more than you know. P.S. I don't claim your riding skills for one second. Day after tomorrow, my butt will unscrinch from watching your descent from the top of that hill.

Thanks for the kind words. Its comments like that that make the video process worth it. The whole point of me making these videos isnt to make the tiny bit of money youtube offers but to allow those as you said live through the experience as if they were there too and hopefully one day get out and do trip like this. I hop you are wrong when you say you will most likely never get out on a trip across the country. One think Ive learned, When there is a will, there is always a way! Just go for it!

I was in Moab May 14/15 2019 on my Tiger 800, just touring on tarmac. I hit Monument Valley on the 16th and winds started picking up. Checked the weather and tore down my camp and bolted to the warmth of a hotel in Flagstaff for a couple days while it poured, clearly the storm that caught you guys. Well done for riding it out.

I’ve ridden lots of trail bikes, the biggest being a CRF 450. I have never ridden an adventure bike. I wouldn’t have tried that Lockhart pass on my trail bikes, let alone on a heavy big adventure bike. You two are warriors and your stamina and determination are to be admired. You had everything thrown at you - wind, rain, snow, cold and terrain. You were correct to call it when you did. It was no longer an adventure but a battle. Terrific video.

Nothing really shows how difficult that southern approach to Moab is like this. Great job guys. I did this with the family in the Tacoma except we moved much..much slower. We spent a couple hours stacking rocks to get down the ledges. Let me tell you the fear of turning around really pulls a family together.

Thanks for the comment. I get it man. Turning around for us is never an option unless we absolutely have too. It killed us to have to call it quits early due to the weather, but we knew there was just no way we would get over the La Sal Mountains

Simply THE Best UTBDR video I have seen yet!!! Awesome job. Been through all those section at least 3 times and this video does the best job of capturing the moments of any! Wow. We were there literally a week later, and had 85 deg and sweltering through Lockhart. Saw a couple of comments calling it Lockhard, and YES, it is. While this video is about as good as it gets, the riding is actually harder than this video portrays. These guys are rock stars!!!

19:16 - I wish I'd know that BEFORE going in. I traveled on my own, and wasn't able to make it thru. I learned my lesson, had few hard times, dropped my bike like 15 times. But I turned and went around. It's great to see "caution" sign from you. 23:55 -I wasn't able to drive up this hill. Inexperienced, I took right path, and sure enough, i failed. At this mark was when I first met people(late May 2020). They where riding OHV(or something like that), in opposite direction and THANKFULLLY warned me that after this hill it gets worst. I'm happy that I turned back and went around. People, please, don't be like me(2 years of experience) and go thru this on your own. It was hard=\

We did Lockhart reverse from your trip last October and one thing we didn’t get was the trail footage. I am so glad to see yours. We had four Tacomas, an 80 series land cruiser, a guy part time riding a Yamaha 250, and a Jeep Cherokee. That ledge in the intro cost the Jeep a CV. We winched up 2 Tacos and the Jeep, and pushed the bike up. That trail is brutal I can’t imagine riding it either way!

+Flyanb for sure. I’ve ridin it both directions a few times and the opposite direction is definitely the harder route. There are two sections, the one you mentioned about the CV and another one about a mile after that that are damn near impossible if you don’t hit it just right. Thanks for watching

Second Utah BDR video in a row that had to call it in the same area. I'm sitting in Sedona watching the temperatures North of me waiting to jump on the trail. I'm wondering if it's just cold fronts that blew through during your trips. I have a big window to get it done and wait for a good weather. It's April 3rd and Moab is getting around 70 degrees but it's the high mountains that will cause problems. Looks to me like summer is better though people complain about the heat.

This was VERY unusual weather for this time of year. I was in the Moab area literally 3 weeks prior and it was in the 80s. The temps just days before were in the high 70s so it just was a fluke front that came through. This area is 5000 to 9000 ft elevation so weird things can happen. Especially in the Spring

I live in Utah, and have ridden dirt bikes here since the early seventies. I have ridden extensively in the Moab area in the late seventies and early eighties, including Lockhart Basin, the Shaffer Switchbacks, etc. which are in your video. But what is the BDR you refer to?

Beautiful beautiful country! I love North Idaho! You should do some rides around Sandpoint and give people a little taste of that local area 👍👍

You guys did an awesome job. Bet you were tired. I would not attempt it on my Africa Twin. Maybe the KTM 500 EXC but even that would be an adventure. Thanks for the video.

Randi Ruge thanks for watching. It is definitely technical no matter what bike you’re on. 👍🏻

I’ve driven Lockhart Basin in my modified jeep. Can’t imagine trying to do it on a motorcycle. To bad you have to focus on the road ahead of you and miss the Colorado River and all the beauty of Canyonlands.

Nicely edited! I love riding around the Mexican Hat area...You told an amazing story. I enjoyed your video very much, in spite of the wind noise...perhaps you can edit it out next time?

Thanks for watching and sorry about the wind noise. This is one of my older videos and the wind problem has been solved. Wind noise is nearly impossible to edit out without distorting other noises like engine noise.
