Backhand to Forehand Grip Change and Footwork eBaTT - P1 March '19
The Exercise:
Playing backhand then a forehand, this can be done with a simple block to the backhand then forehand or any kind of drill that involves both strokes.
How it's done:
1. You will need someone feeding you via multi ball or blocking.
2. Create your location targets on the table allowing the player to incorporate both backhand and forehand
3. The player must focus on developing a good grip change if required or desired and also focus on developing efficient footwork to implement high-quality strokes
Aim:
Develop good footwork and am efficient grip change or develop strokes that don't require grip change.
Please share your experiences with us, so we can share it with our table tennis community, on our youtube channel.

This really helped, I found that in tournaments and just regular play I was finding it difficult to alternate between the two but this really helped me learn to change that. Thank you!

Just the video I needed. I have a grip switching issue. For my FH grip I have my index finger in the middle pointing towards the top of the racket. My BH grip is normal. But if the ball comes quickly to my BH I don't have enough time to attack it. I can only attack if I am already in BH grip.

Oh, racket switch is such an issue for me! I've loosed so many points when switched in a wrong angle.. But I found for myself that "universal" grip is not convenient. Since its ok to change greep, then I keep struggling to change it correctly :-) Thank your for your video!

What about your thumb position when changing between forehand / backhand grip? I tend raise the position of my thumb when backhanding (compared to forehand).

Hi Eliu....Simon Heaps told me the coin trick recently. When I'm back at the table I will be using a five-pence as I had noticed my forefinger was too high and middle of the bat when I play a forehand shot. Good Video.

Eli, are you supposed to put pressure on the thumb and relax the index finger for the backhand? And vice versa for the forehand?

Hi, great video like all the others. One question, is it possible to play a good FH Topspin with BH grip als lefthander. I made the experience, that lefthanders often play with BH grip and this might cause problems with FH Topspin. How can get used to NOT use BH grip when playing FH topspin or FH drive ? Thanks a lot and best regards from GERMANY
@ebatt8803
@ebatt8803 3 жыл бұрын
Good question, and yes it’s possible but it does reduce the quality and you’ll find the players that do have a bh grip for fh topspin, will hook the ball. Which means they will struggle to play against backhand and find it hard to play down the line.

So if you are playing forehand, the tip of your index-finger ist over the edge of the bat? I have never seen any player doing this, to be honest...
@nulldemokratiezwei7773

@@ebatt8803 Look at tall people like Samsonov or Ovtcharov. You will realize, that in spite of their longer fingers, their index finger never exceeds the edge of the bat when playing forehand, even though they change grips. I think it is because you exert pressure with the index finger during the hitting phase of the forehand stroke and if your tip is over the edge, it becomes awkward. But thanks for answering!
