Goodwill used to help the disabled and people who have obstacles to employment by give them JOBS The stores were part of how they did it. I haven't donated to GW for years. Years ago, GW used sales of donations to support their program to train disabled workers. It's really turned into a crash grab of late. They sell tons of pirated designs and new merch which is overpriced crap. The prices on used/donated clothing have gone ridiculously high. They took out the changing room. They take vintage/antique goods out of the donation location and ship to their "boutique" stores. Big box retailers have a deal to "donate" old/unsold merch.(crap) for a good tax donation (I presume.) At the checkout you get asked, "do you want to round up?" I don't anymore. GW is a cash grab for the guy who owns it. It no longer serves it's employees or customers.

I frequent most of the local GW and if their is no tag the person will take the item back and get a tag for me. Also now the GW has a buy $30 and get $5 back policy. So the tags mean nothing and they never change. The stuff sets on the shelf till it goes to the bins. I don't like it at all and I'm not alone. People who need to shop at the Goodwill for clothes, shoes, housewears can't afford it. I don't donate anything to GW I donate to a Mennonite organization and thrift store that supports the community with decent pricing. They provide jobs and training. They even provide overseas food services. You still looking great. Tell SuperCort hello!

Always remember according to Goodwill International's own financial statement (revised 2023) the company has over 68 Billion in assets. As such, this is a huge MEGA corporation. MEGA corporations employ PR people to spin things- the bigger the turd the shinier they attempt to make it. The excuse of "losing money" is inane in as much as what they sell they get for free. The excuse of price switching is ridiculous because even if they sold every item for $1 they are still making profit in as much as all items are given to them free of charge. The excuse regarding resellers is pure spin. Who cares what people do with the merchandise given to Goodwill for free after the item is purchased? Goodwill is not a small corporation struggling to survive as indicated with their 68 BILLION in assets. So now keeping true with Mega Corporation standards Goodwill puts the burden of their employee errors (not ticketing items) on the buyer. Shop at Goodwill if you want to/Don't shop at Goodwill if you have a gripe. Either way we will all follow Mikey Bags!

I believe what has happened since they started using the barcoded price stickers (at least in my area) is shoppers are seeing items they want but dont like the new inflated price. They remove the price sticker and then go ask for a price check hoping an unknowing employee will quote a cheaper price. Goodwill corporate has probably noticed this trend of all of a sudden unpriced items that just happen to be more valuable items and so are having their more trained pricing personal retag them. I remember at one times several years ago they had this same policy, no price-no sell, come back later. Then for the last few years the cashier would be like meh..........and give you a price
@kathypirok-klein34136 ай бұрын
Agree, people are changing price tags. My sister has done some garage sales with prices on all the clothes. People come in pull off the tags then say there was no price asking her to take a couple bucks on Nike clothes. The tags are all over the garage floor. The dishonesty in people is frustrating. As for GW and others raising prices is because they learn of these people making videos of how much money they are making trying to get things cheap at GW and garage sales. I remember years ago selling antiques at my garage sales. Dealers would come in complaining my prices were too high for them to put in their stores. I always told them I have spent a good penny on many of these items and it isn’t my responsibility to make it cheap enough for you to resell at a higher profit than what I originally paid for it. I have learned to put better items on eBay and FB.

In my area, even if the barcode sticker is missing, there will still be a black PERMANENT marker number somewhere on the item. For instance it will have a 2 so $2.99 or a 4 would be $4.99 so you can still buy it. Sometimes alcohol will remove the marker and sometimes not.

My GoodWill stores have had that "no tag no sale" policy for years - I can understand but it's frustrating when you find something great and they won't just give you a price for it. But since they started jacking up prices they want to take the time to check the items out instead of just giving a random price. Honestly, except for really great deals, I only buy the stuff that is on the $1.99 ticket color because their prices are too high for used stuff a lot of the time. In some areas they have one set price for each type of item - all shorts are one price, all jeans are one price, all tees are one price, etc. so they don't have to rely on tagging everything.

Prices are ridiculous but economy is better so people can pay more but it has nothing to do with resale due to shipping cost, etc.

The Pioneer Woman napkin holder would be perfect for buying for self, not reselling. My mothet would have loved to have found it.

01:58 Oil lamp. I'd bet on Chinese. I could have gone to the Ill Will today but went the other way instead. Once upon a time I used to spend $40 /visit in GoodWill, especially near the holidays. Sometimes multiple times in one week. After they started sending most of the good stuff on line it went to $20/month. Now $20 is a VERY rare month. They don't have that no-tag no-sale policy here at least...yet, but that's possibly because there's nothing worth switcherooing tags on anymore anyway. 05:50 Chinese mudman figurine missing his fishing pole.

That is a newer furby. The one I have from my childhood 1998 doesn't look like that.

About a month ago my daughter had a free take it or leave it tag sale…advertised it on FB…people brought some very nice things…some odd things too…people took lots of free things…so many people told her it was a great idea…at the end of the day she took the leftovers…not very many…to Salvation Army…she plans to do this 2 times a year ( spring and fall) going forward.

I go to a thrift store run by a small group of people in an old house that is located in upstate New York. You pay 2 dollars to go in and everything is free. Cloths, shoes, couches, coats. They also give people food.

What’s the difference in GW getting it for free then marking it up, and a reseller getting it for say $5 and selling on eBay for $50?

Why is Goodwill putting items on the floor if they aren’t marked? Seems like a wasted opportunity to make some money

You are so funny and entertaining. KZbin is a better place with you in it! I love Goodwill these days as everything is so high I find I save money by buying very little to nothing. I do love the bins though. Keep up the good work. Subscribed.

Here in West Palm Beach, the Goodwill no longer does the color specials and other Goodwills seem to be following suit. Oh, and the prices are just as high.

I love the background music. Crazy crazy crazy nights from KISS. No elevator music. Our goodwill here in my area Indiana is not this interesting.

The original Furby came out in 1998. I think those are the ones that are worth the big bucks. I could be wrong though! 😊
