Goodwill used to help the disabled and people who have obstacles to employment by give them JOBS The stores were part of how they did it. Today they run the stores for revenue, I rarely see a disabled worker there. But they still benefit from the facade of what they once were as an organization. Pretty underhanded if you ask me.

My disabled cousin went to work with them but quit after 3 months. They forced him to sort and fold clothes in a warehouse with no AC in the middle of summer. I offered him a fan to wear on his neck, but I was told he wasn’t allowed to bring in fans or water bottles.

The Goodwill near me has gone bagless now. They have Goodwill Tote Bags for sale at the checkout counters to purchase for $1.25. And at checkout, they always ask everyone if we want to round up our total. I'm like, "everyone is rounding up and giving extra money on top of what they are already making off of us, but they won't give us a bag for the stuff we buy." I'm sick of their greediness...

@@wallysworld3435 I agree... I like the reduction of plastic. It's better for the environment to bring a bag. But, in my humble opinion, I believe that Goodwill makes enough profit that they could give folks a bag instead of charging them $1.25 for one at the checkout.

I haven't donated to GW for years. Years ago, GW used sales of donations to support their program to train disabled workers. It's really turned into a crash grab of late. They sell tons of pirated designs and new merch which is overpriced crap. The prices on used/donated clothing have gone ridiculously high. They took out the changing room. They take vintage/antique goods out of the donation location and ship to their "boutique" stores. Big box retailers have a deal to "donate" old/unsold merch.(crap) for a good tax donation (I presume.) At the checkout you get asked, "do you want to round up?" I don't anymore. GW is a cash grab for the guy who owns it. It no longer serves it's employees or customers.

I believe what has happened since they started using the barcoded price stickers (at least in my area) is shoppers are seeing items they want but dont like the new inflated price. They remove the price sticker and then go ask for a price check hoping an unknowing employee will quote a cheaper price. Goodwill corporate has probably noticed this trend of all of a sudden unpriced items that just happen to be more valuable items and so are having their more trained pricing personal retag them. I remember at one times several years ago they had this same policy, no price-no sell, come back later. Then for the last few years the cashier would be like meh..........and give you a price

Agree, people are changing price tags. My sister has done some garage sales with prices on all the clothes. People come in pull off the tags then say there was no price asking her to take a couple bucks on Nike clothes. The tags are all over the garage floor. The dishonesty in people is frustrating. As for GW and others raising prices is because they learn of these people making videos of how much money they are making trying to get things cheap at GW and garage sales. I remember years ago selling antiques at my garage sales. Dealers would come in complaining my prices were too high for them to put in their stores. I always told them I have spent a good penny on many of these items and it isn’t my responsibility to make it cheap enough for you to resell at a higher profit than what I originally paid for it. I have learned to put better items on eBay and FB.

In my area, even if the barcode sticker is missing, there will still be a black PERMANENT marker number somewhere on the item. For instance it will have a 2 so $2.99 or a 4 would be $4.99 so you can still buy it. Sometimes alcohol will remove the marker and sometimes not.

Same here, there's a lot of bad things about goodwill now, as well as certain other thrift stores. And to top it all off, there's the resellers who pick the place clean. Why donate to this? Why shop there? Flea markets even became trendy now so instead of finding a deal you pay more. All that's left is garage sales, tag sales, that sort of thing. I try to go early in the year too before everything worth looking at is being sold online. I seriously wish we didn't have the internet sometimes.

Hi Mikey I live in north-eastern Ohio and our Goodwill's changed 2 yrs ago to the no tag policy. I frequent most of the local GW and if their is no tag the person will take the item back and get a tag for me. Also now the GW has a buy $30 and get $5 back policy. So the tags mean nothing and they never change. The stuff sets on the shelf till it goes to the bins. I don't like it at all and I'm not alone. People who need to shop at the Goodwill for clothes, shoes, housewears can't afford it. I don't donate anything to GW I donate to a Mennonite organization and thrift store that supports the community with decent pricing. They provide jobs and training. They even provide overseas food services. You still looking great. Tell SuperCort hello!

Always remember according to Goodwill International's own financial statement (revised 2023) the company has over 68 Billion in assets. As such, this is a huge MEGA corporation. MEGA corporations employ PR people to spin things- the bigger the turd the shinier they attempt to make it. The excuse of "losing money" is inane in as much as what they sell they get for free. The excuse of price switching is ridiculous because even if they sold every item for $1 they are still making profit in as much as all items are given to them free of charge. The excuse regarding resellers is pure spin. Who cares what people do with the merchandise given to Goodwill for free after the item is purchased? Goodwill is not a small corporation struggling to survive as indicated with their 68 BILLION in assets. So now keeping true with Mega Corporation standards Goodwill puts the burden of their employee errors (not ticketing items) on the buyer. Shop at Goodwill if you want to/Don't shop at Goodwill if you have a gripe. Either way we will all follow Mikey Bags!

I am so glad to see this. I am retired and living on pennies. This has been my way to buy for my grandkids and myself. I shop and save the good deals for gifts. Last visit I made, I could not get to the shelves for people grabbing stuff to resell. Some brazen enough to bring their cell phone to look up how much they can resell. I was pushed out of the way once and had a toy taken from my hand . Isn't Goodwill a store meant to help those with limited income? Many of the products have been donated. I can only guess those knocking the ones in need out of the way because of greed... are desperate. But remember, we are all in this together in 2024. Be nice to those in need. Help people instead of trying to be pigs.

My GoodWill stores have had that "no tag no sale" policy for years - I can understand but it's frustrating when you find something great and they won't just give you a price for it. But since they started jacking up prices they want to take the time to check the items out instead of just giving a random price. Honestly, except for really great deals, I only buy the stuff that is on the $1.99 ticket color because their prices are too high for used stuff a lot of the time. In some areas they have one set price for each type of item - all shorts are one price, all jeans are one price, all tees are one price, etc. so they don't have to rely on tagging everything.

They don’t have time to research it over again due to Someone taking the sticker off. In fact in some of my local stores they have signs up saying removing/changing price stickers is equivalent to stealing.

You can ship through the post office using the book/magazine rate may take a day or two longer but the postage rate is much cheaper than the standard postage
@ellen5165
@ellen5165 2 ай бұрын
Most magazines do not qualify to be shipped as media mail because they contain advertising. From the post office web site (and verified at my local PO a few months ago when I had a question): "Media Mail Packages may not contain advertising except that books may contain incidental announcements of other books and sound recordings may contain incidental announcements of other sound recordings."

Hi Mikie, I'm watching your channel for the first time ever. I've never had your channel pop up before. I'm known by people who know me as "The super shopper" Never pay full price for anything. Even retail, I just liad up, have the sales person call the manager, then I start a 5 minute max. I start the process. If in 5 minutes we can't aggree on a price. I stay humble, thank them for their time, & walk away from hundred plus piles. I always have cash in hand. I'll use thrie credit card if it gives me extra $$ off. Then I charge it, the next thing it to have it hung in a store hanging garmet bag, or folded into flat bottom shopping bags. When that's all done, I just make a cash payment and return to a zero balance owed. Its actually works 99% of the time. NEVER PAY FULL PRICE FOR ANYTHING. I live secound hand stores. Discount, discount, awesome. I love to barter also with friends. I receive a priceless joy when giving go others. I was excited to watch a new thrifting channel. I'm a new viewer. I understand the price & cost you are sharing with us (me) I paused your video to comment. I'm going to finish warching, learning, and sharing. I so enjoy a happy, positive break from reality. Thank you, Mr Mikey, for your video posting. Wishing you all positive and great deals 😁.

$13. 00 for that "tool" holder. I have cheap crockery from yard sales to to hold my wooden spoons, etc. , and they would cost $1.00 in good condition. Plus , it adds to the rustic look of the kitchen. GW's CEO is reaping the benefits of turning GW into a cash cow.

Resellers who used to buy cartfuls of things have ruined thrifting. The solution is simple: place a sign in the window, "No Dealers Allowed". I worked in antiques for years and that is how we dealt with resellers.
@LindaKayHolevas

Your comment doesn’t make any sense. Anyone selling antiques is a reseller. Grocery stores are resellers. Anyone in retail is a reseller. How are you going to differentiate between a reseller & just a buyer?

Well the day the guy that sells me my car tells me when, where, and how I am allowed to drive my car then I guess your simple solution will make all the sense in the world, until then GW is nothing but Greedy and don't want to see anyone get a deal and turn around and make money off that deal except them like getting all free things and making 100% profit on it isn't enough?!?

The no tag no sale has always been different around the country. I agree with others here: I would rather support any other thrift store over goodwill. Many of the other thrift stores support pet shelters, or hospital assistance, religious or other charities; Goodwill supports the CEO. They say that their goals is to train employees, but more often they treat their employees horribly. A friend totally believed in Goodwill and applied as an accountant, just out of the Army. At GW, she was told daily that she was lucky to have a job and was yelled at for not working fast enough and any mistake was her "going back to her criminal ways." It was harassment in the worst way...she quit 2 weeks later...because with her spotless record, she could have any job she wanted. She won't even donate or step into a goodwill store! The local goodwill, where I grew up must have treated employees better, because I saw the same people all the time.

I remember Desert Industries. Never found much there. Would ship stuff home that didnt fit in luggage. Drove once. Brought home LOTS! Dont forget to look in the small bags they do. Went to the outlet last year. Never again. I was like a toddler at the running of the bulls! Not like the other great ones I go to. Stay thrifting! Been in my blood since the mid 90's!

If the right person who knew me was shopping at a thrift they would definitely find me things that I would be thrilled to get for a holiday or birthday. If there was gorgeous fabric/linens or great cookware or an appliance that I needed I would much rather have a secondhand one than a new one in every instance. I have very simple tastes . I love beautiful things that are useful and rarely buy anything just to look pretty and sit on a shelf. My sister gets this but pretty much nobody else does. There are so many good things at good prices at thrift stores, even if they are sometimes too high-especially for somebody who wants to resell them-they can definitely be great buys for someone who would would otherwise be able to find something at new retail prices.

I blame the people making donations bringing dirty crappy items and a lot of garbage to sort through. Consumers are just that and people will bring in pee soaked clothing and rat terd covered boxes. So just warning people to clean their thrifted items and wash before wearing! Otherwise you may be sorry you didn’t. It’s up to you brother.

01:58 Oil lamp. I'd bet on Chinese. I could have gone to the Ill Will today but went the other way instead. Once upon a time I used to spend $40 /visit in GoodWill, especially near the holidays. Sometimes multiple times in one week. After they started sending most of the good stuff on line it went to $20/month. Now $20 is a VERY rare month. They don't have that no-tag no-sale policy here at least...yet, but that's possibly because there's nothing worth switcherooing tags on anymore anyway. 05:50 Chinese mudman figurine missing his fishing pole.
