Backpacking / Camping With Goats VS Dogs Trout Fishing Remote High Country Lakes (Full Trip)

Backpacking and camping with goats is a lot of fun once you understand goat mentality. Goats are herd animals VS dogs which are pack animals. Camping with a pack animal is a perfect fit. Everyone working together towards a common goal with camaraderie and loyalty. Mans best friend! Camping with a herd animal is a bit of a misfit since heard animals are in competition with each other for the same resources staying together only for safety. Once you understand how a goat thinks and their motivations, it's a lot easier to accept them and adapt your camping style and set up so they don't drive you crazy. On this trip I was still learning some of these lessons, still trying to teach my goats how to be dogs. Lol! A goat will always be a goat and it is you who must adapt. Once you learn to think like a goat everything will fall into place.
When the goats are three years old they are able to pack as much as 50lbs each (depending on how big they get 150 - 200 Lb. They can carry 25% of their weight) I bring them now for training, both for them, but also for me as this whole goat thing is completely new. The dogs only carry what they need. The goats don't need much so most of what they carry will be for me or for the dogs.
I explain all this because people ask why I treat the goats differently than the dogs. It really has been a situation of "us and them '. "Us " being me and the dogs, "them" being the goats, however, I'm learning to bridge the gap adapting, learning to lead both the pack as well as the herd!

Fellow Utahan, and firebox enthusiast. I bought the titanium firebox in may 2020 and I have had a couple chances to use it. My back packing trips are so much more enjoyable. From the ease of boiling water to making some gourmet meals with out having to worry about packing fuel and heavy stoves. This thing is invaluable imo. I have gotten a couple buddies to get one as well. Keep on, keepin on!

We went to every single State Park there was and even drove all the way to Canada, my favorite childhood memories.
