Sorry for the silly question... I would assume you need to sight in all your pins from your zero position... Prior to selecting any tapes?? So on my 5 pin assault...I need to set all my pins for their proper yardages, and then choose which will be the floater and start using the dial to find my 20 and 60 slider positions to select a tape? Does this sound correct? Am I over thinking this? I got this pro sight as a buy once cry once purchase.. I want to make sure I’m taking advantage of all it has to offer, even though I’m not practicing our past 60 yards yet!!

That's a great question and I apologize I didn't explain that better in the video. Your pins do NOT need to be sighted in prior to finding the correct sight tape. You can sight in your pins after the fact and it will not change the sight tape. Does that help/answer your question?
@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 5 жыл бұрын
The main thing is to make sure you use the same pin when you set the 20 and 60yd marks on the vertical slide. If you do that, you'll be good and can then finish sighting in your pins.

Hey there Kaden! After you do the 20yd and 60yd marks and get your sight tape all set, you'll still need to sight in your other pins individually like you normally would with a fixed pin sight. Your 60yd pin is then your floater for longer distances (or shorter distances if you want). Does that help? Thanks for watching!

Hey there and thanks for the comment! I might have to put together a video on adjusting the individual pins! Its pretty easy though. Loosen the tension screw then loosen the screw to the pin you are adjusting- then turn the micro adjust knob to move the pin and tighten the pin and tension screws back up (gently).

I always add 6 ft to actual bow speed then fine tune windage and elevation at 40 plus yds and can set marker at 27 yds with yardage dial bottom out, and pretty well on 0-32 yd maybe 1.5” hot at 20, this is for single pin, also set sight yardage dial on 50 yds and shoot from 12 ft away dead on and then at 20 yd with dial back on 20 it will be close

I’m truly confused on why the sight tape doesn’t line up to the 20yd mark and the 60 mark. So when you slide your sight to the 20 yard mark on the tape won’t you be shooting way high since the 20 yard mark you drew was a lot lower than where it is on the tape ?

I talked with Black Gold and they recommend having the zero/home position all the way to top(turn the big adjuster knob for dialing yardage so the zero or home position is all the way to the top)....they do not recommend using the flush due to the fact that arrows/fletchings may hit the sight if you are showing a heavier arrow or slower bow and try shooting longer distances in which you dial the yardage. By having the zero/home position all the way to the top, it gives you more range to dial.
@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! That is certainly a consideration to take into account, particularly in the scenario you stated, with bows shooting a heavier arrow and a slower FPS. Something to experiment with for sure. I've personally used the setup in the video with the bow in the video (Bowtech Realm SR6), as well as my previous bow (Mathews Heli-M) shooting a 520gr arrow at 265fps with success. On that slower setup I was able to shoot out to 120yds with clearance. On the setup in the video (492gr arrow at 295fps), I've got plenty of clearance well past 120yds, so it works great for my particular setup. Definitely play with it and see which way works best for your own setup though.

How do you go about Shooting this sight tape with fixed blade broad heads with some inconsistencies differed from Field point?
@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 5 жыл бұрын
There can be a TON of reasons why your fixed blade broadheads aren't flying with your field tips, but most common reasons are that the bow isn't tuned properly or the arrows aren't spined properly. Some broadheads just don't fly all that well, so that could be the issue. If the bow is tuned (not just paper tuned, but broadhead tuned, arrows are knock tuned etc), you should be able to go through this same process with this sight tape. Use field points to get the tape dialed and then switch over to broadheads.

Thanks for watching and great question! Those pen marks name are only to obtain the gap between 20 and 60yds so I could then find the corresponding tape with the same gaps. Once I've got the correct tape, you can install your "zero" where you want and what works for your setup. I like my "zero", or, my 20yd pin at 20yds, set so the vertical slide is flush with the mounting bracket if that makes sense (I think I show that in the video if I remember right). Does that make any more sense?
@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 4 жыл бұрын
@Bryan Bishop the purpose of being able to move the sight housing up or down is to be able to dial in the exact yardage if needed, including longer shots. I've dialed this sight out to 120yds. At longer ranges having an exact range is critical. But, realistically that more of a 3D or range practice scenario. Occasionally out west here there are situations where a longer shot might be ok, but I prefer to get closer of at all possible.
@MyCanoeCountry
@MyCanoeCountry 4 жыл бұрын
@@BackwoodsPursuit okay, So help me.out here, so you have your 4 pins, are they equally spaced? So if you have your 20 yard mark at 20, and you want to dial in further. You move your 20 yard mark to say 60, and your lower pins would represent the same spacing as before or?
@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 4 жыл бұрын
@@MyCanoeCountry yeah, basically sight in each pin individually (20, 30, 40 etc or what yours is set up as). Whem you move the sight the pins gaps dont change so they would represent a different yardage. But, you real only use the one pin you've designated as your "floater"....or in my case my 60yd pin is my floater. Once the sight has been moved with the dial, my 60yd pin becomes my one usable pin essentially. You could estimate on the rest of the pins, but obviously they would be off.
@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 4 жыл бұрын
@Bryan Bishop that's mostly correct. Yes, once you've found the sight tape that is right for your setup, move the sight back to flush, the make sure the red pointer is perfectly lined up with the 60yd mark on the tape. That was very intentional. Then, leave you sight flush and sight in each individual pin without moving the dial at all, just move the individual pins that correspond to 20, 30, 40 etc. That way you'll have the benefit of a fixed pin setup when the housing is set to flush, or zero, but if you want to dial past 60yds or to an exact yardage, you can do so using the 60yd pin and moving the dial. First though, make sure your bow is tuned. This process should not include moving your rest at all. The bow should be tuned before you go to set up the sight tape.

Put the tape that was closest to Mark's and some were dead on others were not. I went out to 40 yards everything shot low. Bumped it down to the 45 hash and was dead on. Now I dont know if maybe my shaky hands marks are off on the blank sheet and theyre simply wrong or what. But I'm a little flustered with mine right now 😠

Great question Steve! I believe they recommend that to make sure you have the maximum clearance and downward adjustment. However, I prefer zero it when flush so I can love the housing down for longer shots AND up for precise shorter shots when needed. Personal preference though. Both ways work just fine. @@BackwoodsPursuit Really helpful video, but I'm also confused on this point... I understand finding the 20 and 60 yard gap to select the right tape, but what I don't understand, is how can you then ARBITRARILY choose a 'zero'? The only way I can make sense of that working, is if you then (after arbitrarily choosing zero) have to adjust all pins to 'match' with the zero. If I wanted to zero the whole sight up higher to give the most arrow clearance as possible, wouldn't the pins have to be manually lowered way down in the sight housing? I don't even know if I'm making sense, I'm cross-eyed lol

@@zjohnsoncg haha no worries and great question! Once I've got the tape selected and set the sight back to zero, then I'll sight in my top pin to 20yds(or whatever yardage you choose to be your top pin) by moving the entire sight housing, not the individual pin. That way you keep the pins centered in the housing. Once the top pin is dialed by moving the housing, THEN you can move the other pins individually and get them sighted in. Does that make kore sense? When sighting in, Would it be a bad idea to use use the top pin to mark 20 thru 60 yds or beyond prior to matching it to the correct sight tape? Wondering if it’s worth the extra effort at all to be more precise when comparing multiple marks opposed to a 20 & 60 mark. Is it easy to replace the sight tape if you increase poundage on the bow? Also thank you for the clarification in other replies on being able to tune the sight pins after selecting the correct tape.
@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you certainly could mark more yardage spots between 20 and 60 if you wanted to. I don't think its neccessary, but absolutely wouldn't hurt anything. If you do that drop some feedback here for me! If you decide to increase poundage or change your arrows etc, you'd have to redo your pins and sight tape because your pin gaps will have narrowed a bit if you increase poundage. Just start back with the blank white piece of paper and do the process over. You get pretty quick once you do it a few times. Thanks for watching and for the comment/question!

Congrats on getting a Mountain Lite! It's an awesome sight! If you haven't seen it yet, check out my video on the Mountain Lite specifically. That one shows how the dual pin indicators work. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d53FqGqFfdamhq8 Basically though, the two pin marks(20 and 60) are simply used to get the correct sight tape, then from there you can stick it on the vertical slide so the 20 and 40 line up with your 20 and 40 red markers(those red markers move if you need to adjust them). Check out that video above and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Hope that helps!

Great question! The mark I made on the blank tape was purely to find the correct gap so I could then find the corresponding sight tape with the same gap between the 20 and 60yd marks. @@BackwoodsPursuit but if you are moving the housing after you have marked where your 60 yard pin is then the pin has moved locations. So not making sense to me.
@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 4 жыл бұрын
That's correct I did move the housing after I marked where the 60yd was, but that 60yd mark was relative to where I started when I moved the sight housing up to use the bottom pin as a 20yd pin. So, once I got that gap by marking 20yds and 60yds, I moved the sight back to my "zero" or the vertical slide flush for me (some start it all the way up...either way works). Once the sight is set to zero, I'll put my sight tape on with that red pin lined up to 60yds. Once the sight tape is on there, I leave it at zero and go to sighting in each pin by either moving the housing with the windage and elevation adjustments (not the vertical slide adjustments). This sight has a 2nd elevation adjustment that moves just the sight housing without turning the knob. the knob is only use to change yardage once you've got the sight all dialed in. Is that more clear?

@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there and thanks for the questions! The "floater" pin is just the pin you decide you want to use when you move the sight from its "zero" position. The floater is important if you are wanting to shoot longer distances and/or very precise yardages (like, say, 47yds) where you want to dial in the specific distances for a 3D tournament. As for marking the 20yd and 60yd, that's simply to get my gaps for a reference to then select the accurate sight tape from the options that Black Gold provides. Does that help or make any more sense?

@BackwoodsPursuit
@BackwoodsPursuit 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Mike! Absolutely....the marks on the white piece of tape are purely meant to give me reference points at 20 and 60yds so I can then match up the corresponding tape. This works better than just going off you FPS reading on the chrono and gives you a more accurate reading to select which sight tape will work best for your specific setup. Once I have the markings for 20 and 60yds, I'll lined up the 60yd hash mark on the tape(since my 60yd pin is my floater) to the red indicator with the sight set to "zero" or, for my setup, flush with the top of the slide. Does that help?

I get using one pin to sight at 20 and 60 and using those marks to find the correct tape. I have the same confusion as Mike as to how you lined the tape up with your indicator at 60. Hey Jason! Congrats on the new sight! Exciting! Yes, you are correct. I lined up the 60yd mark on the tape with the red indicator with my sight zeroed out(at its base position). With the sight zeroed out, all the other fixed pins are sighted in without dialing the sight at all, so the 20yd pin is sighted in for 20yds, 30yd pin for 30yds etc. without moving the indicator. Thanks for pointing that out. You are correct in that when using the 60yd pin as my floater, it cannot be moved up enough to shoot a 20, or possibly even a 30yd us shot.
