I had an issue with my 2016 4runner purge valve staying open. I saw another video about using some carb cleaner through it. Luckily for me this worked well to unstuck the valve. Saved me 200 from the dealer. So it all other functions are good this is definitely worth a try. I used seafoam carb cleaner through mine. Just fill both tubes and shake. Give it a few minutes to dry out and test again.

Great video. Thank you! Something that puzzles me about this video is how come you show a leaking valve at 4:35, but then, the valve appears to hold pressure when testing it at 5:45? Did you switch to a functioning valve during the latter test? Thanks!

Great videos man! I have the same Civic as in the video.. have both p157 and p0401. My question is will a bad EGR code/valve also give me the EVAP p1457 code? Replaced gas cap already and checked the purge valve.. both work fine.. haven't checked the canister area yet.. hoping I don't have to crawl under the car.. if the EGR is the possibility? Thanks in advance

My vent valve is attached to a solenoid separately, the vent valve was not holding vacuum so I replaced it but the engine light came back on with the P1457 code again. The solenoid is closing a opening properly but I dont know if its holding vacuum. Should I replace the solenoid as well?
@backyardchevy3283 жыл бұрын
Well it could be a few things that would cause that code..but theyll be focused near the gas tank area..so youll want to cancel em out 1 by 1..first the gas cap..then yea if solenoid was bad it was good idea since thats what opens and closes it..make sure theres no damage or torn lines or hoses back there..youll want to make sure the fuel tank pressure sensor is reading properly too..even possibly the canister may be damaged

So even if the valve sounds like it’s working it can still leak?

My ride has me puzzled. I have an overwhelming fuel smell inside the car. No smell outside. No visible leaks. No code. Seems to run fine (I haven't driven it but a couple of times since the fumes started) It was barely noticeable for a few days so I did notice the mileage doesn't seem to be affected and idle seemed fine. No problem filling up. Just an eye watering fuel smell inside the cab. The smell is present when not running and doesn't seem any worse while running. It has been stationary for several days without a start and the smell is just as bad. Any thoughts on what could be the culprit? Thanks for any advice/guidance.

Not sure what kind of vehicle it is, but some cars will have an access panel under the rear seat..youll want to take the bottom of the seat off and remove the panel with normally a few bolts or screws and just check if its leaking fuel..ive had to fix a nissan just recently for that same problem..where the plastic housing on fuel pump was leaking fuel

will a bad gas cap give same code as purge valve ? one man said replacing just purge valve solenoid,,, pontiac grand prix,,, wont ever fix code po446. i took it as it needs other things replaced also,like the pressure sensor or faulty lines and connections. ?

Is it normal to not get a CEL but you can literally see clear fumes coming out of the gas cap area through the side mirrors? Sometimes the dips RPMs while at stop or idle.
@backyardchevy3282 жыл бұрын
Well the fuel cap would vent since many fuel caps are vented if they reach a certain pressure...and the dips at stops or idle can be a sticking idle air control valve or a few other things..that may electronically still function properly so the computer wont detect an issue but maybe mechanically theyre not working as great due to gunk inside or something clogging the port

What happens when you have a leak in the evap or anywhere in the engine but no cil light or codes show up? And getting random rough idling at a red light or stop sign.
@backyardchevy3282 жыл бұрын
Well a rough idle could be caused by many things, like a dirty throttle body..or if u need spark plugs.. a problem with the pcv valve could cause a vacuum leak with no codes yet run rough...but normally a leak in evap will trigger a code cause its quite sensitive to catching any certain type of evap issue.

How much does that cause
@alvinshenry59942 жыл бұрын
Will it mess up the motor
@backyardchevy3282 жыл бұрын
Not really, if bad enough it could cauze misfires which could make it run bad and that could damage a catalytic converter sooner than it should

Him I did this test, and the vaccuum is lost very slowly. It goes from 17 to 7 in around 20 minutes. Does that mean that the solenoid is bad? I tested it with voltage and it opens up.
@backyardchevy3283 жыл бұрын
Does it hold at 7 after that? Specs do say it should hold at least 7 in vacuum
@lohengrinknight3 жыл бұрын
@@backyardchevy328, I finished the test at 20 minutes, so i don't know now if it would have lost more vaccuum. I'm going to repeat the test again tomorrow. I'm trying to solve two codes: P0455 and P0456.
@backyardchevy3283 жыл бұрын
@@lohengrinknight yea two evap leak codes..should be a bigger leak than that though if its taking that long and holding at 7..unless the valve is randomly sticking..have u checked ur gas cap and followed all the hoses from engine to tank?
@lohengrinknight3 жыл бұрын
@@backyardchevy328, yeah. I checked all hoses and they are ok. The car has a capless fuel neck, and I lubricated both the plastic and metal seals. I used WD-40, but I'm thinking that I should go back and use some silicone lubricant instead. I have not checked the vent valve, but since you say that codes mean something else might be faulty, I think that that could be the problem.

@backyardchevy3283 жыл бұрын
No that's for the vent valve..that ones by the gas tank on most vehicles..and usually means the valve is stuck closed or not opening

evap is annoying. it takes more fuel and power. its sorta like a garbage disposal for a car.
