THANK YOU! I just bought a 2010 Town&Country, got a good deal on it because of the clicking noise. Took me 4 hours to find this video, a half hour to find the broken actuator in my car, another half hour to get a new one from the store and replace it. I'm not a "car guy", so this is a big win for me. And you've just save me a lot of money that I'm not spending at a repair shop.

I would love to replace the actuators myself, but I right want to mess anything up. But this video definitely summed things up. I really appreciate your explanation/video. I just need to find a good mechanic to replace the actuators. I have a slight clicking noise when the heat turns on and/or when I switch the control positions. Someone told me to also make sure my antifreeze isn’t low. I have heat coming out of the passenger side, but barely the driver side and the heat is not hot enough.

Yea u definately wanna start by making sure ur coolant level is up to the mark, and if that doesnt help, u wanna make sure if u do take it to a mechanic that they verify its not a clogged heater core beforehand, they can feel if the inlet and outlet lines of the heater core are both getting hot.

Hey people. I was reading other comments from other videos. IF your vehicle is blowing hot one side and cold on the other like mine was you either have to replace the Center Actuator, or the one on the Driver's side. I replaced the one in the center, it wasn't easy but I did it (this one controls the heat, not the one close to the passenger's side ). You'll need a small ratchet and 8mm socket, or you might need a Stubby Phillips/Flat screwdriver depending on what type the screw is. There is little room to get in, but it can be done. It took around an HOUR to get it out. Lots of body twisting. Use a Light too. I got my part from a Wreckers so I had to take it out, that took about an hour, because I didn't have the right tools. I used a Channel Lock to loosen the screws. There are 3 screws, but I couldn't get the back one so I broke off the last Screw holding it down. But I did replace the center one and now I have heat on both sides. The broken one I took out, shook it, and could hear it was crapped out. **** Sorry for the long posting, but if you're going to replace your actuator I would suggest order one online, or go a auto parts to buy a new one. Hopefully my 2 screws will hold. I was quoted $800 to get this done. AND don't forget to Plug it back in.

Thanks for the demo video! I have a 2015 Dodge Challenger with the clicking noise and no heat on the drivers side. I got 2 actuators from Amazon and replaced the one on the passenger side behind the glove box and the noise went away and my heat returned. However after a couple of weeks, the replacement actuator made a louder clicking/grinding noise and I went to replace it again. This time, I started the car ignition w/o starting the engine. I noticed the white cam turned back and forth about 360 degrees. Is this normal operation? Should the cam or the door vent be in a specific position when installed? Thanks.

So I went ahead and replaced the blend door actuator and it worked fine a few times. I was able to switch from cold to hot and hot to cold. Then after I tested it a few times I tried switching it from hot to cold and it got stuck again on hot. It seems like for some reason it is having a hard time switching from hot to cold. From cold to hot it moves fine. When I watch the actuator under the dash I can even see the arm connected to the actuator struggle when trying to go from hot to cold. If I nudge it with my finger it will go ahead and move. So pretty much right now I'm just keeping it on the cold setting to avoid the hassle of it getting stuck on hot. I'm not sure what to do at this point

Thank you for your video! I have the clicking sound on a 2006 Dodge Dakota. I've looked everywhere but I don't know how many actuators it might have. I do hear the noise coming from two distinct sides.

@@pawglover37 it could be there is one just above the gas pedal and there are 2 on the passenger side..but it does kinda echo in that area..best way to tell is to feel em when theyre making the noise..youll be able to feel the clicking

I recently had the clicking but it only lasted a few seconds for a few days and then stopped. But more recently the AC stopped blowing cold and only heat comes out. The fan and direction knobs both work but temperature will not change. If actuator is the issue which one would it be that makes it stay hot? I already tried changing the whole climate control module. Appreciate any reply!

Yea thats the same thing this one would do, it should be the same actuator i had to replace...with the blower on, turn the switch from hot and wait a few seconds then go to cold, that should make it happen as well

I had my driver's side actuator replaced by the shop mechanic that my used car dealer recommended (it was still warrantied) but now a slight strain sound occurs when I use the A/C (AZ in summer) … can the actuator arm that operates the blend door be out of it's parameters and thus the sound I hear sounds like the actuator is trying to move the arm past the rail guide's optimum positioning? Two things I noticed in this awesome video: 1) The replacement actuator had a slightly different shape. Maybe not OEM? 2) When you R & R'd the white arm thing it seemed that you hadn't been concerned if it was replaced in any specific geometry (if that makes any sense, beyond of course placing the arm in the complete opposite direction). If though that arm is too far off on the gear mount could the actuator be attempting to run the arm farther than the rail guide will allow? Hence the strain sound that is currently emanating from the area where this actuator was reinstalled when the A/C is used, say in the recirc. position v normal A/C position. I haven't tried all the A/C positions quite yet for it is summer here now so I wonder when the winter calls for defrost and such will the blend door work briefly before the strain of having the arm too far off causes a failure of the actuator, again. These cheap bits in our new modern age cars where the manufacture is less concerned about reliability than profit and keeping the dealer's shops in business is a mismanaged short term stock price incentivized mistake. (Dealers make their money on service and service contracts sold today and fees attached to the sale of cars such as documentation fees) If a dealership isn't selling to a customer more service and new model cars and generating fast turn around of cars that won't last 200K+ then their not going to keep their gleaming showrooms and acres of shiny POS on their lots. The business model of the entire industry should be revamped to emulate what the Japanese market of yesteryear had in place. Now South Korean car manufactures are trying to out do current Japanese models.

Does it only happen when u adjust the knobs? As long as the actuator is tight and the arm that it operates is in the the groove, it wont have any other adjustments...I have a video i posted which shows the inside and how it works, its posted at the end of video too.
