In this video I experience not one Bacterial infection with my Koi, but two. New Pond Syndrome issues and a couple of new Koi added to the Quarantine.

Thanks Kev. Glad you liked the video. I think I'm over the worst now but the 3 Step will take some time to heal. I believe that it may have had a Bacterial infection in the past as there was some scar tissue on the area where the infection hit this time. Sadly it will take a while to heal but hopefully it will regain it's original beauty.

I do to be honest. I've a vat in the garage now with several nice grow ons so if it's raining outside, I can always go into the garage for my relaxing fix. Must admit I did like his Afterlife series though 👍

Great video mate! I have recently done similar treatment to my showa with raised scales and seems to be like kind a bacteria infections. Real annoying but the spray works after couple days without needing injections. It is winter in down under and I should have PP the whole pond prior to weather. I have just subscribed to look forward for more future videos of yours, cheers!

Hi. It's at the end of the video with the air source heater. I'm about to dismantle it as I've just bought myself a new fibreglass growing on pond with infinity window. I'm hoping to get a new video done in the next month or so. This year has been very busy with work so the channel has taken a sideline for a while.

Ah so it is! Did you also have a post about building it on a forum too? ive been looking at buying a fibreglass one as well, seems like when you add costs for the timber, sheets and liner its pretty much the same as a fibreglass vat. I started taking mine apart last month, and came home after a week at a conference to ulcers on 3 of my faves (great timing with no QT!) treated the ulcers but i need to get a move on either buying a vat or building again so i can get them in heated water

Well that's what happens when you don't mature your filters first and then dump to many fish in the tank, pretty obvious really and a very rookie mistake.

Could I just take this opportunity to mention that the Kusuri Anti Bac spray is a terrible design. Unless the bottle is 80% full, you have to change position to gef it to spray.

It's still surprise me just how a number of people don't know about Womezon Remedy although lots of people treat their bacterial vaginosis issue naturally using it. Thanks to my buddy who told me about this. I have treat my bacterial vaginosis issue naturally .

I would have NEVER scrubbed all that healthy lush forest of green off the liner to begin with. That was keeping your fish healthy and they can eat that green lush forest as well all winter long as it is a good winter diet. Then your second mistake was treating COLD WATER KOI fish like TROPICAL fish with that new fancy over priced heater that you really do not need in the UK where your summers are long and your winters are way to short for Cold water fish such as KOI. But what do I possibly know, after keeping my big old KOI alive and very well in Ice Cold running water all winter long which lasts for months on end in Canada for the last 27 years.. At least I never get anything like that or any parasite on my koi as the ice cold running water keeps the cold water Koi alive and very healthy . I would have saved my money and never bought that heater and instead looked for a pond cooling system to keep water ice cold for at least 4 to 6 months long, so koi could be kept more natural in a cold water environment which is what they really require. If your fish were kept colder for longer periods, then you would have way less problems. Here In Canada where my koi are outside in running water in some of the worst winters of Minus 45 and below Celsius, where the ground freezes 6 feet down, and the water is ice cold for at least 6 months of the year, I have never ever had any disease or sickness in my koi. Your fish and pond are very nice and would do well to have a good long winter so please do not take offence to my advice, as I am only trying to help.

Hi Colleen. I'm going to have to disagree with some of your advice there I'm afraid. Giving your Koi a Winter is correct to an extent, as this in itself will help to keep parasitic infestations at bay but there lies a problem. Koi require heat to heal. Typically 22c is the optimal temperature for tissue to regenerate, hence the need for an Air Source Heater on the QT. The Air Source Heater and also cool the water if so desired. They can heal in cooler temperatures obviously, but at a much slower rate and the colder it is, the slower cell regeneration occurs. Also I'm trying to force out any issues that may trigger at certain temperatures, ie: KHV (Koi Herpes Virus) so heat ramping is required. KHV trigger point is between 16 and 26 degrees. It may not show itself on the first heat ramp either. Once the Koi have been given a clean bill of health, the QT will be used as a grow on. Again, heat is required for good growth rates. This is the exact same methodology used as the Japanese employ. Now here's the interesting part with the Koi in the vat at present. They showed no sign of any parasitical or bacterial infection upon arrival. They, last year were in water temperatures of around 15 degrees and then wintered in much colder water of about one to three degrees. No issues were observed yet once they were warned up, slowly I may add, then they began showing signs of a bacterial outbreak that showed all of the characteristics of Aeromonas Hydrophila (cultures would need to be grown to be 100% certain.) So, heat is 100% required for health, tissue regeneration and disease issues. If I had just placed them in the QT and waited until after Summer for any issues to arise, preformed scrapes for identification of parasitical infestations, the bacterium residing either on the body or inside may never have broken out leading to a false positive and ultimately infecting the original stocking once water temperatures reached optimum conditions. This is why we heat. As for the Algae issue, you are correct but only partly. I would never clean off Algae from any pond as like you rightly say, it's high in nutritional value but this wasn't Algae, it was Blanketweed. Granted it's part of the same family but Carp in general, excluding Grass Carp do not eat it. Blanketweed also depletes O2 levels, clogs filter systems etc. As I mentioned in the video, there was a terrible chemical smell which I suspect was the Cloverleaf reacting badly to the Blanketweed. Today I use only Aqua Source Resolve to kill Blanketweed. It has no negative effect on Algae so therefore the Carp can continue eating what grows on the pond naturally. Hope this clarifies the reasoning behind my actions.

Confessions of a Koi enthusiast i would try and grow that yellow flag water iris really big and they really help clean the water better than any filter I ever had. My yellow flag is very old and floats naturally in 3 feet of water, in the lower goldfish pond. It keeps ponds really clean. 15 degrees not cold enough to kill off things that make koi sick. Thats why in England so many people have trouble with parasites and stuff. Here in Canada if you winter koi in extreme cold (water temps just barely above freezing ) and run the water all year round, (so pond does not freeze solid) you will never see those parasites and sickness. Maybe somebody could invent a pond chiller to keep water super cool. I see you have much knowledge about koi problems, as the weather must to too warm where you live. If you had extreme cold you would never have those problems. I understand once fish are sick they need warmer water to speed up metabolism so healing is faster. . Just trying to spread the word about wintering koi and the benefits of keeping koi in ice cold water for a winter period. I see so many koi owners in UK heating their ponds and water temps barely freezing. I never heat my ponds unless the temp of air is below -15 (if ground not frozen solid) and -10 if ground frozen very deep. (Ground can freeze 6 feet deep here) We also had longer colder wintet here and had weeks with temps of -30 to -45 this year.. My koi are just waking up from long winter nap and looking great. They are not eating yet as water still very cold but once weather warms up they come to top of pond and eat then.

I've never heated my pond in winter in 30 years, yes you get the odd bruise from a fish banging itself on something but i don't interfere unless it's absolutely necessary, then 9 times out of 10 it will heal on its own. All these Antibiotics and chemicals just weaken the fishes immune system, and this jolly dishes all these medication out like out like they are going out of fashion. I think these Koi centres are taking him for a ride or he is going online and diagnosing the fishes problems himself when he is not qualified. Also whoever is providing him with prescription medications willie nillie should lose their job. Then he's wittering on about KHV. KHV is trigger at 24 not 22. The only reason you should ever want to heat your pond in winter is if you are a breeder and wish to continue to grow koi all year round that's the only reason. Koi are no different than the Carp you go fishing for regards to temperature they can tolerate the cold. They can also tolerate the short harsh winters of japan where the snow can be 10 feet deep and the temps as low as -41 Celsius. By heating koi for no apparent reason in winter will reduce sperm count which in turn reduces the triggers for breeding and will also reduce immunity as they are constantly having to fight off summer diseases and parasites all year round. I'm not surprised that this young man smelt a chemical odour as his koi are constantly living in a chemical soup provided by their keeper.

You really need to be careful how you inject pectoral fins you could end up paralyzing the fin. You need to stop messing around with your fish so much, all you keep doing is weakening your fish's immune system, when are you going to realise a healthy fish will normally heal without interference. So far as messing with your koi so much i have never ever seen anybody worse than yourself. I'm sorry if this offends you but i have never seen so much interference in all my born days. I wish i knew who the vet is providing you with Ms222 and all the prescription meds as i would give them a piece of my mind.
