Thanks for the reassurance! I had my surgery 6 months ago and I’m still doing my therapeutic exercises every other day sometimes I do 3x a week or 2x a wk plus I walk 15 mins every 3 days or so. I know I’m healing. My incision still feels sore and I get a throbbing pain every now and then but I know I’m healing. I will be ready in another 6 months for sure. This is my second go round. Two new knees that I’m very grateful for.

Your routine sounds pretty much like mine. I’m six months out also and exercise much like you. Not daily. But the tight knee still drives me bonkers, although it feels slightly better when I do my bends and stretches

The tightness is definitely a lingering symptom for a lot of people, but staying active and doing exercises like you both describe will go a long way with time and patience!

I will be getting both knees replaced starting with the worst one 1st. And then somewhere down the road, I will get my next one done. Today is April 30, 2024, and I will get a phone call about my surgery at noon. I've always healed quick, but that was when I was younger, and now I am 66. So this should be interesting..

I just had both knees replaced 3 months ago at the same time and yes don't do too little and not too much. I followed my therapists advise and am happy to say at 3 months I'm doing great walking 30 min a day, aquafit and my regular exercises. It was hard not to compare myself.

I have zero feedback inhibition in my body as to what is "too much." 47 yrs of nonstop pain means every every post surgery PT I've ever done starts with "do this" and then I literally can't move because of the pain level for at least 3-5 days. Took me 16 months to learn to walk again without crutches after meniscus removal. Am expecting 3+ yrs with the TKR

I hope it won't take that long to walk normally after surgery. Try not to compare your outcome and rehab from previous surgeries as all surgeries and recoveries are different, even for the same person. You may have a prolonged recovery or you may not. Focus on what's within your control and one day at a time.

Thanks: your videos helped me a lot during my first TKR, and now I’m 2.5 weeks into recovery from the other knee’s replacement, done 3 months after the first. So far so good, but I am surprised by the severe pain in my “good” leg’s thigh quads. The doctor and my PT say that that pain is common because I’m working the “not completely healed” first leg so much, and they don’t have a solution beyond patiently continuing the regular PT exercise, rest and icing. Do you have any general advice about this? Is it common? Am I missing something I could be doing? Thank you so much for your honest expertise.

Thanks for the question. I would agree this is not uncommon as your asking more physically from these muscles as you begin to rehab from surgery on the other knee. It will get better with time, but if the soreness is severe you can try some strategies: gentle soft tissue massage with your hands, a massage stick, tennis ball; you can do some gentle stretching and movements of the knee and leg on that side, and heat to those muscles can also help with soreness, too. Best wishes with your continued recovery.

Thank you for your suggestions! I experimented with low heating pad heat, and it seemed to help a bit, so I’ll keep on with that. I was icing the surgical leg and warming the first surgical leg at the same time, so it was a little weird feeling. Haha. I will try some massage too. It’s really nice of you to answer viewers’ questions! Your videos have helped!
