Martin said that his sister, Rae Proctor, suggested that he do this movie with Will. I think that it's cool that Martin was such a sought-after actor at the time to have the power to get Will cast in this movie, but it bothers me that no studio head thought that it was good idea to get the two biggest black sitcom stars at the time to join forces in an action-comedy. I always thought that was the reason why Martin and Will were cast in this movie.

“Bad Boy’s” was originally Martin Lawrence’s project, but he recruited Will Smith to join in.

Makes sense. Martin had top billing and more lines and screen time in this movie than Will did. Bad Boys 1 was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and the late Don Simpson. Bruckheimer and Simpson had success with Eddie Murphy with the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, and Martin Lawrence was seen as Eddie Murphy's successor at this time. Plus, Martin had been in three more films than Will at this time, and Martin had more overall box office success than Will had at the time that Bad Boys 1 was made.

24:21 Hold up, in Theresa’s defense, she said “I can’t remember the last time we fell asleep together”. Which means he getting home late as hell every night at no regularly scheduled time. You expect her to deal with 3-4 kids from 6am to 9pm by herself and stay up until whenever Marcus get home. Nah. Also when he is expected to come at a good hour he calls and says he has to work late. Remember the scene Marcus had both phones and having two conversations. That part informs us she’s at home with some red lingerie on expecting Marcus to be home soon but he can’t be. So let’s not act like wasn’t putting in any effort to have sex with her husband. It’s just a rough patch, which is funnier.

Martin had top billing over Will Smith in this movie. This was Martin's movie more than Will's for a number of reasons. 1) Martin started acting earlier ("What's Happening Now?" in 1987) and had more big screen film credits than Will did by 1995 (Martin had 6 films, and Will had 3 films). And the films featuring Martin did better at the box office than the ones featuring Will, overall. 2) Martin was the established comedian (Two "Star Search" appearances, "Def Comedy Jam" hosting gig, HBO comedy special, "Talking Sh!t" comedy CD, controversial "SNL" hosting appearance, and "You So Crazy" concert film), and since this movie relied heavily on comedy to be successful, the established comedian was given most of the comedy bits to perform. 3) Martin was the next Eddie Murphy at the time. Producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson had a lof of financial success with Murphy with the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise and probably wanted to capitalize on Martin's popularity as Murphy's comic successor (Martin had previously worked with Murphy in "Boomerang."). 4). Martin had the more "adult" persona compared to Will. Prior to this film, Will was a nearly squeaky-clean rap artist and usually played high school students/graduates and college-aged characters when he acted in TV and in movies ("The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "Made in America," and "Six Degrees of Separation"). Martin, on the other hand, was playing apartment-leasing, bill-paying, employed adult characters at this time ("Martin" sitcom, "Talking Dirty After Dark," and "Boomerang"), and his stand-up comedy touched on adult themes and contained graphic language. Thus, I can see the first "Bad Boys" filmmakers trusting Martin with the adult, R-rated material more than Will.

He was in Made In America before Six Degrees Of Separation WITH Nia Long, Ted Danson and the Legend that is Ms. Whoopi Goldberg. They actually came out the same year. People forget that Movie, but it was a surprise success. What I'll say about the Henchman snitching, is there's a ton of dudes who look solid and like they won't fold, who break with little to no pressure. My biggest issue with the Movie, the last time I watched it was when I realized that Neither Marcus, Mike, or Julie saw that Fouchet was watching THEM watch HIM. That one upset me, that I never even noticed that, or that I just easily accepted it.
