Nothing to Lose is an underrated classic just because it's the last subgenre of the 90s. With Money Talks Rush Hour & Bad Boys, they have legendary stats on characters alone... Nothing to Lose is a hidden gem that's barely mentioned, FRFR!!!! Some of the best quotes in a 90s action/buddy film, HAD THIS ON VHS IN 1997!!! ✊️Blackbusters!

I feel like Nothing To Lose, Money Talks, 48 Hours all fall within the same movie realm and criteria. These are movies that may predominantly have non-black focused plots, but ultimately regardless if they are the main or supporting characters- those movies aren't blockbuster movies without those black actors in them. Martin, Eddie, and Chris's star power and screen presence makes it almost impossible to not be pulled into whatever significance they bring to the movie and their role in it. Which maybe speaking for me at least, makes it easy to forget that it's not necessarily "supposed" to be a BlackBuster 😂

I'm a movie head too, 80's baby, I grew up going to theatres and stuff....sad to see them die, but part of that is because the movie studios don't make good stuff anymore, blockbuster franchises and animation only....they don't make good comedies, action movies, or serious themed films anymore. Bad writing, bad plots everywhere!....or they try to reboot old franchises.

For the first time since this shows inception I agree with Tone😂😂 this IS NOT a Blackbuster. Not only is it more about the white guy but it's not a "must see" in the hood/culture. In actuality none of the movies they mentioned in comparison are Blackbusters. Rush Hour, Money Talks, 48 Hours, Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places ARE NOT Blackbusters. They just have a Black co-star. Blackbusters are set in Black America, whether the hood, the office, wherever. Boomerang was set in a big time ad agency but it's ALL BLACK.

Money talks is a blackbuster. It's like GTA V, Its a perfect Blend of P.O.V. Charlie sheen's character was just as much of the focus as Chris tucker's character. Money talks is the perfect example of a movie telling two different stories at the same time, and being able to show the movie from two different prospective.

1) All of those movies are blackbusters because the central characters are black. If those characters are taken out of the movie, there is no story. Therefore, we can define blackbusters with levels. Money Talks and 48 Hrs. may qualify to a higher degree, but in Nothing to Lose, we get a chance to view Martin's life and family. The film is about the RELATIONSHIP that develops between Nick and T. So, even though it starts with Nick, it becomes a story with 2 LEADS. A "supporting" character is one who adds to a story that's already there. A 2 lead film requires two central characters, and that's regardless of whose angle the story is told from. 2) Also, I disagree about Rush Hour being about Jackie's character more than Tucker's. Both characters are brought on to resolve a situation that other cops could've handled, and the fact that they are both skilled cops from different worlds, which the film illustrates, makes it a two-lead film. Since one of the central characters is black, it qualifies as a blackbuster. 3) I think it's important to consider the fact that not all great comedians are actors. Most comedians who transfer their talents to cinema have a style that compliments acting. Some comics are joke tellers and not necessarily performers in the sense one needs to be to live in the actor realm. It depends on your act. Comedians with pathos can become film/tv stars. Like you said, opportunity matters though. 4) Also, this is unrelated, but the film Norbit is WAY after the Murphy/Paramount contract days. 5) Lastly, Houseguest is AWESOME, and Sinbad kills it. I stand ten toes down about Houseguest and Sinbad deserves respect by black people. Houseguest IS a blackbuster. Nothing guilty about the pleasure I get watching that one.

Y’all didn’t talked about the confrontation that Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence had when he told him he need to return the money back. He couldn’t let that shit go but eventually he did cause he wanted a better life! He was tired of not having something when he went to school for shit! And that scene where Martin was walking towards home and the song “Maze” came on? Which was sung by a black British woman “Des’ree”? Was a beautiful part of the movie! Cause we see Martín having his family even when he ain’t had shit to prove he can give them a better life 💯! And Nick Bean decide to pull some strings to get him a job where he’s at! Which was a blessing and formed a friendship 💯! This movie was good!
