He Got Game is a 1998 American sports drama film written, produced and directed by Spike Lee and starring Denzel Washington and Ray Allen. The film revolves around Jake Shuttlesworth (Denzel Washington), father of the top-ranked basketball prospect in the country, Jesus Shuttlesworth (Ray Allen). Jake, in prison for killing his wife, is released on parole for a week by the state's governor to persuade his son to play for the governor's alma mater in exchange for a reduced prison sentence.

Uncle Tone is right. Starbury was too big but Spike wrote it for him. Kobe declined cause he had them 3 air balls in the playoffs and he wanted to solely focus on basketball that summer.

Love this movie. Ever since "Get Out" Tone been on POINT lol. He be breaking these movies DOWN. Stuff I ain't even notice. Fan of the show. I used to think Ray Allen was bad in this movie, now I actually like his performance. It made it more real that he wasn't a professional actor.

Great review! I’m surprised y’all didn’t talk about the symbolism between Jesus Shuttlesworth throwing the ball over the fence and Jake throwing the basketball over the wall in the yard at the end of the movie. I think it kind of brought things full circle and symbolized forgiveness between father and son.

this was an amazing review. playing basketball in high school and college this movie is a classic. we watched this movie all thru high school, and college lol. ONly thing is LaLa didn't say shit real. She sold herself short. And had enough nerve to claim jesus had no worries....that was some BS. he had plenty of things to worry about, plenty of pressure that he had to face everyday. Its all about perspective
