I really like Rough and Tumble in this comic, while they're rude, violent and vengeful. they're cute characters in the way they're actually loyal and protective to people they care about, as evident by how they're shocked when Mimic turns on Starline and the way Tumble reacts when he sees Rough hurt.

I unironically love those two idiots so much. Their rhyming shtick is fun, and when they're not up against the main characters who clearly outclass them, they are genuinely capable. Yeah, there's the thing with the T-Rex bot here, but then there's also the fact that, the first thing we learn about them all the way back in Issue 3 of the main comic, before we even see them properly, is that they legit saved the town from Badniks, and were described as _unstoppable_ by the villager trying to warn Sonic about them. It's just... they proceeded to take over said town themselves, afterward.

Would a mere cameo of the island and emerald suffice? You know, I always was interested in Zavok’s portrayal LW. Yeah, everyone calls him a Bowser wannabe or a big brute, but he’s shockingly well-spoken, and isn’t as single-minded when it comes to his goals like the King of Koopas. I think, IDW shows that Zavok and Zeti can be interesting characters when given the right writing.
@itsgrey81352 жыл бұрын

Yeah people don't give Zavok's portrayal in LW enough credit. Well, what has all happened... -Plotting -Backstabbing -Zavok the motivational speaker But well, we learned a lot: Zavok keeps impressing with actually having a philosophy, beliving in Loyalty, Honor and Revenge, but not in 'needless cruelty', as he put Starlines plan of disposing of them. Starline, of course, develops more independence, and got motivated by Zavok to change his angle from 'help Eggman against his will' to 'Surpass Eggman', all the while getting more of eggmans worst traits: A massive Superiority Complex, and a dismissive attitude to the capabilities of others. Mimic is... Well, I can really not say anything about that octopus. Team Rocket proofed that their best quality is camaraderie, being the ones most interested in doing the Team in Team Bad Guys. To bad it was not a Team for long. But I think they have the best chances working with any of the others again. They seem like the kind of people willing to give second chances, and they don't really have a grudge to hold against Zavok and maybe a minor one for Starline. And of course, Eggman got some development! Respect for Tails ablities, insight into his tech and opperations, proof of his pragmatism. 'Just destroy both bases'. But also a show of his carelessness, and empty headedness regarding anything he disregards. He sees Zavok and has instantly the attitude that 'that can not be all', but not because Zavok could not have pulled a stunt like this himself, but because Eggman does not give Zavok credit he deserves... Of course, he is right, but for the wrong reasons. It was not just Zavok, afterall... And lastly, he disregards the possibility of Starline. While weird, not exactly out of character for Eggman to not get the obvious.

I never thought I'd say this (Hell I never WANTED to say this) but IDW Zavok is actually an interesting character. I really like his takes on leadership. While he's not always the nicest to his six and can be manipulative at times, he sees them as powerful assets and would rather keep them around instead of being "needlessly cruel". That's actually quite honourable. What I respect more about this interpretation is that instead of taking a bad character and making different character traits for them, they take Zavok's foundation and build it up from there. Giving him more depth without making him a different character. Good job Ian.

Nice to see you back at this! When this first came out. there were two things that bugged me, both regarding Starline himself. The idea of surpassing Eggman felt too easy to settle on, something that easily could've happened in the Metal Virus saga. On a somewhat contrasting note, his hypnosis ability was a bit of a disappointment from the start. Everything other new ability was inventive and (possibly excluding the tricore) tied to the characters, but that was a common ability thrown in that fails to make sense. That... aside, everything else here was perfect. R*T were good without jokes and brought some in in the free time, Mimic had a chance to directly show how he acts on missions rather than exposition, Zavok reintroduced the Zeti's ruthlessness - every character proved their right to be in the story and then some! It's interesting to think about how beyond escaping prison, only Mimic and Starline got what they wanted, but everyone's roughly back in their prime.

I'm going to play devil's advocate for Zavoc, as he showed signs of being a more complex character even during his introduction in Sonic Lost World. To look at him (and in his boss fight) you'd think he's just some big brawler, like the Sonic universe's version of Bowser or something, but he does interact with several other characters and shows many facets. He talks to Zik with reverence and respect, even calling him "master," despite the fact that Zik is WAY smaller and weaker than he is, showing he cares about more than an individual's power. He also convinces Zeena to go on mission by appealing to her vanity and ego, showing his natural charisma and ability to manipulate others, he isn't just some thug who makes people listen to him with threats of violence. It's a shame he didn't get to expand his character in Lost World or Forces, but although he has been very well treated in the IDW comic it isn't like all of his best aspects come from it.

Pro tip: you can never become a better version of some else no matter how hard you try (at least without major detriment to your own potential), but through becoming a better version of yourself you can grow beyond them and surpass them. Plus, working to your own personal strengths means that you will not be boxing yourself in and limiting yourself, there will be more of you if you do not cut yourself down. A lesson I think starline has learned, but potentially not fully internalized in all aspects. Anyway this is a lesson metal sonic needs to learn, and to a lesser extent eggman by proxy in that regard in order to accommodate for that.

I'mma put reactions in this comment. 2:00 - Actually, I'd imagine that if he was smart enough to remove Starline's password, he was _probably_ smart enough to set it up that that _specific_ password would set off the alarm, so that he could remove a thorn in his side permanently if he tried it. Then again, maybe the rotten Egg's memory is super-good, I dunno. 9:09 - That "You're a _visionary,_ sir." looks quite genuine, tbh! Like Starline is _actually impressed_ by the idea. 18:05 - Okay yeah, that's a nice touch XD 19:19 to 19:29 - Oh...oh no. Now imagine _all of them_ having a Tri-Core... 28:51 - to 28:58 - "Move on from old projects without a second thought"? Does Eggman have ADHD? And yes, that is an honest, legitimate question, because that sounds like how _I_ operate sometimes... Okay, this looks _friggin' cool._ I may have to subscribe to the comic at this rate.

I love the character of star line. He is an excellent addition to the series as an alternate antagonist

But Starline's hypnosis didn't come out of nowhere. He used hypnosis on Mr. Tinker to try to bring out Eggman but couldn't reach far enough in his psyche for it.

He had a full machine for that but very good observation! No reason he couldn't incorporate that tech into a more portable form

Possibly Eggman changed it so that Starline's specific password is what triggers the full security alert.
