In 2015 or 2016, my wife and I bought a 94 Pontiac Sunbird for $500. It had a lightswitch jerryrigged to the dash that had to be flipped for the starter to work. We were able to drive it for 3 months, and then it caught fire on the freeway. We junked it and figured we would have paid more than $166 a month for a rental car, so it was a good enough deal to get us through a few months.

The one thing I've learned from watching Judge Milan and Judge Judy is to ALWAYS have a mechanic look at ANY car, old or new, before purchasing, simply because people will post or say anything to get rid of it.

head gasket leaks are very common on those cars, years ago I bought a Taurus for my daughters first car 12 years old 100 k miles, I just did the head gaskets and bolts before she started driving it, knew they were going to leak soon, not a real hard job took 2 days cost 200 bucks, this guy is a whiner

I genuinely believe that vehicles seem to know something has changed. As long as it's been with a particular family, there are no issues, but the moment the car has been moved, all of a sudden, the newer owner finds out all these issues. Yep, your right, when we were young we purchased a car off a police man, next day took it to our garage for them to look at, and they said it was an illegal vehicle, it could not have past its MOT which is a yearly check to see if it’s road worthy, and your given a certificate to send to your insurance. They said take it straight back it’s illegal to be on the road, as it’s a police man he will lose his job if you take it to the police because the MOT is forged. It should not be on the road. We got every penny back.

From what I've heard is that when the motor will overheat (Thar she blows!!), mixing oil & water & possibly cooking the transmission. If it was a nice car, buy/rebuild the motor OR put in another driveliine. Too bad that the boy had to bring his mommy to court to dispute instead of thinking how will I repair this car.

There are no warning signs, they're fine 'till they're not. They typically only blow if the engine has been overheated, but sometimes go for no explicable reason, and that engine is somewhat notorious for head gasket failures.
