It looks as land uplift has started yet again which is also a countdown timer for eruption number 9, and the battle is not getting any easier with the lava defence walls flooded at some places, again. So I get some doubts every now and then and thats just how things are, but overall iv'e supported all types of rescue missions in order to protect the town until this chapter is over, but we can only do so much, and the cost is already enormous, and still worth is, but for how long. So as usual, I'm just sharing my thought along with fresh footage.
This is in fact the third part of the lava road story but the first parts are here:
Part 1: • The Lava Flooded Blue ...
Part 2: • The New Icelandic Lava...

I sort of look at it as "You did everything you could. It's better to try and fail, than not try at all." No one could accuse the gov't of not doing something to save Grindavik. The important thing would be to protect the harbor for the fisheries.

I have seen quite a lot of talk of likely failure but I still believe that the likelihood of failure is less than 50%. This current eruptive phase no longer seems very dangerous, and even if we get further eruptions, the lava still has a large area it can potentially spread itself over.

This was such a treat to come home to late at night after a very long day traveling. I can finally relax and breathe watching your newest video, Gylfi. They are always my way to immediately relax and go to that gentle, quiet, safe place, even with the 2 or 3 minute ones with music only. I have a fondness and appreciation for them in particularly. I don't mind saying that on occasion, I feel jealous they are so short, so I replay them many times. 😅 I love all things Icelandic...the people, the food, and the culture. For many years I traveled between US and Scotland with 7 hour layovers in Reykjavik. I love Icelandic Air and have never had less than excellent flights, with great pilots, crew and meals. You, sir, have been a daily staple for me for quite some time now and I am so grateful to you for the amazing work you do in creating these historic masterpieces which will live on in posterity. Take care Gylfi, be safe with yourself and your precious cargo and have a much-needed rest in the north. Best wishes for you & hopes that all your needs are met. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙏🇮🇸

This is pretty frustrating. The locals are certainly very tired of this. On the flip side, tourists just long to flock to the sites and watch nature being magnificent. The authorities have made the right decision keeping people away when the gasses are a threat. Sadly, given the actions of some tourists, the lava also represents a big danger. Stay safe, sir, and hope the next time it is still in a "safe" location.

Well, I'm happy they kept the Blue Lagoon open, since I was able to visit and see the eruption on Friday. 😀 It's too bad there is no good hill to see this eruption that is a bit closer, 2-3 km is a bit far. And the hill that is closest is of course not safe as the road to it keeps getting blocked... But we could still see some impressive fireworks, so I'm happy.

The walls, as heroic and clever as they, don't seem like a long term solution, they only buy time. And they assume no really big pulse of magma (historic precedence already set) that could dwarf them. GOV must be in a tough spot for planning real solutions to endangered facilities and communities.

Lets pray that those birds know more than all the technology we can deploy. It may be nesting season but birds, like many animals, will give up nesting and breeding areas if they know the signs that tell them they are not safe to raise young even if they have come to that same place for 100 generations or more. They won't have come back to a nesting area that would put them in danger or prevent them from nestingand raising young. They often will fly around until they determine the best action and if they believe more danger is coming move off to alternative nesting grounds or find new ones. If they decided to return to nesting grounds it can often be that they detect things we can't or don't know to look for that means they will be safe. That does not mean they are saying the eruptions are over or slowing diwn for any longer than their nesting season buy it's worth watching what they do.

Dear Gylfi, That was another great video. Especially since we recently talked about the costs. When I researched the Reykjanes volcanic system and visited Fagradalsfjall 🌋two years ago, I realized that the eruption phase can last up to 200 years and how it will change the landscape around Grindavík. That’s why I always watch your old videos and compare them with my own recordings. The changes are tremendous. I recently read that there are plans to build a new Blue Lagoon at another location, as Iceland’s most famous attraction is becoming too unsafe in the long run. Comparing my drone footage from April this year with yours today clearly shows how much Iceland is trying to win the fight. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you all and will see you again soon in Iceland.🇮🇸🇩🇪 Yours, Marco from Berlin PS: Your car still looks great and well-maintained! It can easily do another 200,000 km. 🚙🏁

Hi Icelandic. if i may, a set of Bigger Tires, Fat & high as you can afford with your suspensions, would help you travel easily, drop air pressure for comfort- buy a second set. even a Proper used set that stay in the garage between trips. so we see photos from Laki craters. Cheers

There are pros and cons with modifications, and plenty of such jeeps around, but the burn more fuel and wear out way faster so they tend to burn up money, but this one will easily get me to Laki this summer :)

I think it's the "fuel injection regulator" the Reykjanes peninsula has the same problem :)

Lots of birds around the volcano in the last few days. Either those Fulmars don´t give it a sh*t, or they are forced to be active, because they are breeding. There ist a colony on Thorbjörn.

First off Gylfi. I must apologise. I thought I had subscribed to you long ago but just noticed I had not :(. You are so close to 100k subscribers and it is very well deserved. You have worked so hard and given such wonderful information to those of us who are interested in what is happening. You have kept the information accurate without fanfare and I for one greatly appreciate that. You just state it how it is and for that I hope that you never ever change :) Keep safe and well and again. Thank you for all your hard work and efforts

Peace be with everyone affected. This is what Iceland does, it’s why it’s an amazing and powerful place. I guess sometimes it doesn’t go well for us humans. But Iceland is building more Iceland. Not many countries get new land the way Iceland does.

At some point the walls will be so high that the lava that ends up at the walls will become a wall in of itself so new lava wont flow over it, isnt that a possibillity?
