Madchild is a real OG... from the early 90's.. he was in a Canadian group called swollen members.. they won all kinds of awards.. he did a lot of battle rap... and he got involved in the gang life pretty big time... This was also Tom doing a "pop" song.. the beat, the auto tune... but he still had a message...

This song was about how it is in the music industry for those in contracts. They can't be themselves. They seem to have it made, but end up deep into drugs, feeling alone and suicidal. It becomes "hanging in there for the money" or "keeping it a buck" as they say. They have this message with high autotune to prove you can actually make a mainstream song that sounds good and holds a message. I watched a livestream from Tom about it. 😃

I've always considered this an over the top depiction of bad rap. From the crazy clothes, random videography and the sarcasm in some of the lyrics... Also, Madchild was a really big battle rapper...has some cool battles worth checking out, if you enjoy battle rap.
