This was the first song I heard from Tom and It came at time when I needed it the most. I had been sober for 12 years until I relapsed early last year. I was literally on the verge of losing my marriage when I heard this song for the first time. This song saved my life and my marriage. I have been a fan of Tom's ever since and I will be forever!

But this song and several others were/are like an iron rung on that ladder for me. I'm hangin' in there. I hope you are, too, HOG

@@JennJenification thank you for your encouraging words. I felt I should give an update. I no longer drink. As many know. I have been in financial trouble due to a torn rotator cuff making it nearly impossible to do even daily chores. Turns out the older I got, the less I wanted to drink. At this point even the thought of it makes me queasy. Lol it's been over a year for me.

First time I heard this I cried. My mother was a druggie/alcoholic for most of my childhood. She gave me to my grandparents to be raised so that she wouldn't be raising me in that lifestyle. She left it after my brother was born, never went back (I was 15 when he was born, nearly 17 when she left it all). She fought and struggled the whole time. I remember visiting her at Rehab and at half-way houses before my brother was born. I lost her to COPD in 2017. She struggled until the day she died with her addiction, especially since by that time the doctors had her on 3 small pill-bottles full of pills a day. It broke her heart when my brother fell into the drug scene after all she did to raise him so that he wouldn't. The struggle is real and never goes away.

I spent 5 years of my life drinking, smoking, and snorting anything I could get my hands on. Great music and my older brothers beating my ass, made me realize I was no good for anyone, not even myself. 12 years of just weed and the occasional drink, I don't even recognize that dumbass kid that I once was. Songs like this remind me of how I almost lost everything, and that things in my life could have been much worse than they are. Perspective is everything, without it you can't grow as a human.

Pregnant ex killed herself many years ago and the cops tried to put me in jail over it. I vibe so damn hard with this song, cause I lost it and turned to 3 or 4 bottles of vodka a day. Didn’t know where I was most of the time. But I pulled it together. Took a lot, and I still enjoy my beer, but I’m happy with where I am when I remember where I’ve been. By far one of my favorite songs of all time

He would never say I did it you can too... It's too much like if you want to be happy think happy thoughts ... he knows its sooooo much more then that What he does though is makes sure we know we're not alone... he tells his story because acknowledging your demons is the biggest part of mastering them He let's us know he understands bc hes been there... a never ending battle we can fight together.... we dont get better bottom got better... we're getting better as a family... when one falls another is right thereto help lift them back up.... he put voice to whatso many of us have been too scared to say... showing us it's ok... the fam is a safe place!!

Once you become an addict, of whatever sort, It is a very long and conscious process to dig your way back out. You basically have to reprogram your brain. But it's worth it to come back...People miss you, need you....losing yourself to a substance above all you have is utter tragedy. What Tom and Nova, (by extension Madchid, Dax, and others demonstrate for us how to find that will, otherwise many of us would simply submit and fade away. This IS war that I'll fight forever. But now I have a general.
